Place for a good meal & shuttle to game?

The Detroiter Bar and Grill is my spot. ok this is not a commercial and i have no affiliation with the establishment...but-Great food-nothing fancy, great service, and they are very quick to get you your food/drink. Nothing but Wings fans getting pumped for the game. Located right by Greektown Casino (intersection of Fort and Beaubien-- 655 N Beaubien...i think?). Three different parking lots (fairly priced too). Easy to get in....most importantly, easy to get out after the game. They have a free shuttle to the Joe that leaves every 15 minutes. Bonus...they provide plastic cups to take your beverage with you on the shuttle. "Lets Go Red Wings" chants usually going for the entire ride to the Joe. Shuttle takes your right to the base of the South entrance steps of the Joe, and picks you up near same drop off place. I will add that, although I see children in there before every game, this might not be the best spot if you have smaller children with you as it is a very bustling place before games and probably not the best spot for children to be 'children". Go Wings!!!!

    Your quirky playoff rituals?

Mine: -I watch the pre-game with the TV volume on mute, while listening to punk-thrash (usually Suicidal Tendancies or Minor Threat)--this is important to the seriousness of my ritual, cause I haven't listened to this type of music on a daily basis in over ten years. -First Wings player that I spot on the ice, either in pre-game, or getting ready for the opening face-off will be the player that I choose to root extra hard for. -I always have a cold, un-opened beer on my bar in my man room. Beer cannot be opened until after the puck drops. -I stand/squat the entire game (except for intermissions), while always having my Easton hockey stick in my hands. -Attire: always wear my tattered Wings hat from 1997 season...never any other Wings attire...just the hat. -During the PK, always in squat position...eyes glued to the TV. -I never let a beginner to the sport of hockey watch a playoff game with me (I did this in the past, and I come off as very rude and short with these guests...they've been playing for the past seven months and now you want to come over and "get into" hockey...pleeeassse). -I never leave the room during play regardless of score or situation (My beautiful wife is always gracious enough to grab me a drink/food during play of I can't wait).

    Sign Abdelkader (now please)

With his energy level, if he ends up with a regular spot on the roster, it will be interesting to see how he physically endures the grueling game schedule. Potentially, the playoffs could be 28 games total (if every series goes to seven). That's more than 2/3 of a CCHA season. I realize that his minutes per game will be lower with the Wings, but the preparation and recovery that comes with the playoff schedule should be interesting to watch how he handles it. No predictions but rooting for him big time!

    NHL's disappointing players

Good post/question. If this were hypothetically the case....IMO I'd say no. Lids and AO are better players all things being equal (all players 100% healthy, playing on exact equal teams). I ask myself who I'd get rid of (if absolutley forced to) if these three came down to playing on my favorite team (Wings baby). I always end the debate with Sid. There's just something about AO and his play that sets him above all the rest....he's freakin unbelivable and refuses to be stopped. If I had to build a proto-type hockey player...he'd most likely resemble AO-including his mean-streak.

    NHL's disappointing players

Again, no disrespect intended (even though your reply comment held some venom). Lids and AO are two, right off the top of my head that are better players. Not saying Sid isn't a great player...just not in the top two. wow..how bout them apples (sorry to ruin your media-hype-Penguins-homer fantasy). Enjoy the rage that comes when your wrong and realize it.

NHL Playoff slogan's... based on Seinfeld episodes..

Another good quote for the Wings would have been: "You think you're better than me?.....it's GO TIME!"

    Flashback: Dan Cleary

This is a reference to country music lore. It started with Hank Williams and this "line" has been used by many other country music people and lyrics when referring to leaving there hometown headed to the capitail of country music-Nashville, in search of stardom.

Avery breaks off contract talks with Rangers

Good player. Don't think he plays dirty. Pass-Don't want him on the Wings. I don't think our team disposition would nuture his style of play and the type of personailty he is off the ice.

Is Crosby the best player in the world?

Nope. TSN only says this cause he's Canadian. The "Canadian Hockey" media, has become really defensive about Canadian hockey players AND Canadian hockey teams. They over-promote them to such a point that's it's really transparent what they are trying to do, and it has become extremely annoying. Not saying Sid is not an elite hockey player...just on the force-feeding by mainly CA press. I saw one HNIC broadcast earlier this season where they were in-between perionds carrying on for about 10 minutes on Sid, and how he's single handedly "saved" the league and now the NHL can finally sell itself. After this, they then went on to talk about the Maple Leafs drama for another five minutes (they suck(ed) as do twenty other teams...now get over it and move on). Then!... Then, they breezed through scores from around the league in about 15 seconds. AO had four points that night and not even one mention of Ovechkin....not one!! This wouldn't be a big deal if it was just a one-time thing....but this Canadian love fest happens all the time and it's getting abnoxious. Lids had a goal and a few points that night as well...no mention either. BTW...to the Canadian hockey press....always referring to Colin Campbell by the nick name of "Collie" on the air is getting really f-in lame as well. Go Wings!!

    Can Detroit Win The Cup?

I was so F-in pissed last night listening to Hockey Night In Canada radio program on Sirius radio. The host (name is escaping me?) and Craig Simpson both predicted that the Wings are almost a lock for a first round playoff exit. They went on about it for over three minutes. Said the Wings puck possesion style isn't effective in a best of seven series. Said they are small, and not strong on the puck. Not enough offense and if they have any hope of getting through the first round, they'll "HAVE TO" pick up a major second line scorer like a Mats or Hossa.....if not...they're easy pickings. And of course they went on about how the Wings standard MO is to have a great regular season and "never" show up in the playoffs....and get this.."it's almost as if Detroit plays hockey for the Presidents trophy and nothing else." I almost drove right of the road I was so disturbed by this commentary. I'm mean....AM I MISSING SOMETHING HERE?? Have we not won three cups in the past decade. Yes, we've stumbled in past years getting through the playoff's....IT'S THE FREAKIN NHL, EVERY TEAM HAS A STABLE OF WORLD CLASS PLAYERS WHO ARE PLAYING AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL!!!! YOU'RE NOT GOING TO WIN EVERY YEAR!!! And didn't we come basically a bad puck bounce away from winning the Western conference last year, and lost to the eventual Stanley Cup champions?? I'm convinced that the national hockey press LOVES to bash and propogate against the Wings and it pisses me off cause it usually is just general statements that if looked at closely, aren't really accurate. GO WINGS MOTHER-F--KERS!!!! LET'S BRING THIS MOTHER-F--KING CUP BACK HOME TO DETROIT THIS YEAR. I'M SICK AND TIRED OF THIS s***. I'M SICK AND TIRED OF NOT BEING IN THE CUP F-ING FINALS. WE CANNOT TOLERATE THIS F--KING BULLs***...WE ARE THE GODDAM DETROIT REDWINGS AND ENOUGH IS ENOUGH...WE CAN OWN ANY TEAM FOR 10 GAMES IF OUR TEAM GETS AFTER IT. I WANT THE BLOOD OF EVERY s*** BAG TEAM WHO STANDS IN THE WINGS WAY TO CUP THIS YEAR. ok..i'm done. have a good day.

    Kronwall out 7-10 Days

EVER!! That is a very bold prediction. IMO, in today's NHL... not a well thought out one either.(no offense). Up to this point you are correct...Holland really doesn't have a track record for doing this. However, if a player is making 3 Mil a year, very frequently injured (like Kronner), and talented (when healthy...I stress when) he's definitely not Non-Tradable. As smart as Kenny is, do you think he's going to pay a guy 3 Mil to sit in the trainers room 1-3 months every season. Yes, his re-signing Kronner was a vote of confidence and looking toward the future and his potential (when healthy..again I stress when). But, even Kronner has said this in interviews, there is a lot of pressure and focus on him staying healthy this year, which he admitted, he has yet to be able to do. Last night is another example of why there is so much pressure and focus on this with him. Kenny may be loyal, and very thoughtful toward the big picture/future of the organization when re-signig players....but he's not stupid and savvy enough to realize "things aren't as we'd hoped, and time to cut bait." The annual expectations of this organization are too high (in addition to the salary cap factor) to wait for a 3Mil dollar player to finally shake the serious injury bug that has riddled him his whole career thus far. Bottom line: I hope he stays a Wing a long time, but he definitely making himself more and more expendable to Wings management.

    Kronwall out 7-10 Days

I really hate to say this cause I'm a big Kronner fan....He may be trade bait next season due to his track record with injuries. I realize it looks like this time around it's not a major, major injury...but it is the sum total of his injuries that makes him a liability. In addition, I think he needs to really work hard and focus on his body positioning (especially on the boards...not just saying that cause of last night, has always been my observation). He seems to leave himself very vulnarable. I hope he recovers and has a huge impact in the playoffs....however, barring a consistent Nick Lids type peformances night-in, night-out in the playoffs, I still think Kenny would be willing to part with him next season for the right deal.

    Why don't we have one

How about we make our mascot Andrew Jackson also know as "Mr. Twenty Dollar Bill". In addition to crowning him our new mascot, we could also lower ticket, parking, and concession prices. The slogan would be "Save Your Mascot!!". Point is....If you really want to engage the younger generation of Wings fans, make it fairly inexpensive/easier to actually attend a game a few times a year! That's what did it for me twenty five years ago! Besides, how enthralled is a young Wings fan going to be if he only see's glimpses of the masoct watching games on TV if he/family can't afford to go down to the Joe.
