Holland: Free Agent Shopping is Probably Done
alienanxiety replied to ShanahanMan's topic in General
Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Cleary-Filpulla-Samuellson Franzen-Draper-Maltby Grigorenko-Hudler-Kopceky yikes. that is a TERRIBLE set of forwards. horrible. and who would be the dpeth guys? Hussey, Ellis, & Bootland. i think THIS is going to be the year everyone was expecting last year, and I have to say, with the additions that LA made, to go along with their talented young core, I honestly think Hasek would have a better team in front of him than we have right now. -
Holland: Free Agent Shopping is Probably Done

so basically he is admitting he f***ed up. at the onset of fre agency he specifically said he wanted to resign all of our own guys, plus maybe add another top 6 forward. then it turned to, well, we might only be able to resign two of our free agents. then we end up losing everybody (except hasek). we replace schnieder with rafalski (not a huge upgrade). and now he says we're done??? howis this team better than last year's team. we lost beturzzi, lang, calder, schneider, markov. and we've replaced them with rafalski, grigorenko, and ??? *crickets chirping* who? ellis? hussey? *crickets chirping*. if he thinks waiting till the trade deadline is a plan, he is nuts. -
Wow, actually looking at our lines on paper, the team looks brutal. We have one line, and then a tossed salad of borderline 3rd and 4th liners. Yikes. It's true, if Dom does bolt to LA, then this will really be our rebuilding year. We can then reload with a decent draft pick for once, and a great crop of UFAs next off-season.

i don't know what's more surprising, the amount of NY Rnager signings or the fact that that past 2 days Eklund's E4 accuracy has been nearly 100%.
-
Is that English?
-
how can they sign Drury AND Gomez?
-
I am thinking Rafalski.
-
They need to put an end to this in the next collective bargaining agreement. It's glorified collusion amongst teams.
-
what would his motivation be to keep a team that he hates so much? i smell a conspiracy. i think bettman "forced" him to find another buyer. this is the second time balsillie has been BLACK BALLED from the league.

HOLY SMOKES!!! that's crazy. but the thing is ... doesn't Nashville have to at least meet the minimum cap? They can't go under $32 million, I think. This puts them down to like $28 million now, doesn't it? who's left on Nashville that we'd want? Zidlicky, maybe?

1. Chicago - no reason to state the obvious 2. Toronto - one moronic move after another, although today's trade with San Jose was surprisingly good for the Leafs. 3. Boston - terrible contracts and trades 4. Washington - I'd be hard pressed to name 5 players on that team over the last five seasons. I can't beleive they aren't worse. 5. Edmonton - You know something is rotten in Denmark when a third of your team abandons ship right after a miraculous Stanley Cup run. A lot of people have been picking on Philly, but I think there only recent mistake was signing large hulking defensmen that didn't fit the new NHL. I think they have done a lot this offseason to improve their team, and I don't think they are done yet. As for Phoenix, I don't think it is the management at fault here. It seems every season they look like they are going to break out on paper, but they are always miserable. I think that would have more to do with coaching, no? Runners up for badly run teams are: LA, NY Islanders, and Florida.

yes, i think we will sign schneider, bertuzzi, hasek, and kozlov. sergei comes back at the deadline.

i didn't mean contract to 8 teams. i meant contract 8 teams, bringing it down to 22. we don't need carolina, florida, tampa bay, anaheim, los angeles, atlanta, pheonix, or dallas. then move nashville to a canadian city. EAST Adams Division Toronto Buffalo Ottawa Boston Montreal Patrick Division New Jersey Pittsburgh NY Rangers NY Islanders Philly Washington WEST Norris Division Detroit Minnesota St. Louis Chicago Columbus Winnipeg Smyth Division San Jose Vancouver Calgary Edmonton Colorado

a lot of people are trying to think of raical ways to make the NHL popular - and many of the recent ideas have failed. i have two simple ideas - contract the league 8 teams, and get the game back to late 80s, early 90s style of play, and let the rest take care of itself. who cares if the ratings are low anyway? I watch. You watch. Hockey fans watch. What is this, a religion? Why should we force it on everyone else?

I see we got a bunch of "Bush-folk" on here. They don't like it when you question anything.
-
I'm not sure how, but I am convinced the NHL fixes or slants the playoffs. Either that or it is an incredible fluke that the last three seasons have seen bad market "Bettman teams" win the Stanley Cup over a Canadian team. It just seems to "perfect" for me. So I guess next year we will see the Atlanta Thrashers defeat the Vancouver Canucks in the finals? Or maybe San Jose will finally make the next step and defeat the Montreal Canadians for the coveted prize.

yes, salary cap and revenue sharing (communism) is a bad thing - especially for us, fans of a free spending club.
-
I didn't mean it was pre-determined like wrestling. I don't for a second think every team is trying it's hardest to win. I am just saying that I suspect the league has tried to give these small market teams every extra chance possible to win championships (whether it be the salary cap, revnue sharing and "timely officiating".) so far against ottawa, and against us too, anaheim doing worse obstruction than datyuk did at the end of game 5, but for some "timely" reason, the powers that be felt anaheim needed a 6 on 4 to finish the game. If that penalty wasn't called, we go up 3-1 in th series, and are almost certainly in the finals right now, playing an exciting skilled brand of hockey with the senators.

the Hamilton Blackberries.

I think Kronwall could fetch us one of the top picks. Trade his fragile ass now, while we still can!!!
-
I would think the obvious place to relocate to would be Winnipeg. Keeps the conferences the same. Now that I think of it - why doesn't the NHL just lose the conference divide altogether? Keep the focus on divisional play, but then play every team outside of your division the same amount of times. Seed the playoff teams 1 to 16.

WCF Game 6 (5/22) GDT: Red Wings @ Ducks - 9 PM ET
alienanxiety replied to aflac9262's topic in General
I can't believe we re-signed Maltby for 3 years. I wish this was the last game we had to see... 1)Lang 2)Maltby 3)Draper 4)Lilja 5)Chelios 6)Samuelson I still think it was a HUGE mistake to play a hurt Bertuzzi over a young, healthy, and hungry Hudler. -
i think this is the first year that i can recall where every game in the conference finals wasn't shown on CBC.

What is sopcast??? Is it free??? Is it live, or delayed??? I must know!!!

In Casino Windsor they have a sports bar called "Legends" It features a huge scoreboard type box in the middle of the bar, which has 4 huge screens, plus along all of the walls there are booths to sit in, each with it's own high def television, which you can switch the channels on as you wish to various sports games that are in progress. there is also sports ticker giving all the scores and updates that flows along a ticker board which extends around the entire bar. food is good too. only downside is, since it is a union job, they didn't stack the place with hot waitresses - it's alot of old women and chinese guys. haha. edit: i forgot to mention - you can also bet on games there too - after all - it is the Casino.
