I agree. If a coach cannot get his team to realize their potential, then he isn't a top coach. Toews (as previously talked about in this thread and elsewhere many times) has some Yzerman/Sakic leadership potential, but is decending into Crosby age 19 whine-tastic territory. Q has not drawn out Toews potential to lead the Hawks through the playoffs, has not done anything about the negative attitude the rest of the players have, and the team is about to get bounced out of the playoffs. Q takes the brunt of the responsibility here. Also, I expected much more from the Bowmans (father and son). I guess we now can see how much Mr. Ilitch had to do with the Wings' "culture" through the years, when we might have assumed it was largely due to Scotty. The Ilitch Wings have been an embarrassment at times through the years, but never for the reasons the Hawks are at the moment: the best team in the league (on paper and in record) acting like a bunch of spoiled babies on the national stage.

He got out coached tonight, plain and simple. I can't imagine how mad he is at the plays that Babs threw at him in the third. I expect a game 5 hawks win, though.

Yeah! It's really something, isn't it? They were talking about this on the CBC broadcast, and you could tell that even they were impressed. Those last five minutes or whatever it was of the PK and then the complete shutdown during the empty net attack by the Hawks was some of the best hockey I've seen this current team play. Six weeks ago, I couldn't have guessed they would muster enough to pull off a demonstration like that. Bravo, Babs and the boys...no matter what happens, this game tonight made me very proud to be a Wings fan.

Good article, thanks for posting. The point about Babs learning from Bowman and his ability to adapt is exactly why this team is even in the playoffs. I think what was required to adapt was harder than Babs imagined, but he's finally pulled it off and here we are in the second round. Many coaches can never overcome things like that.

97.1 The Ticket isn't a true local media outlet. It's owned by CBS, and so you get national corporate monolith attitudes towards sports. CBS says football brings in the dough everywhere in the USA, so it better do the same in Detroit as well, hockeytown or not. It's basically the ESPN of radio. I remember listening to it when in town, waiting for the wings game to come on late in the season... March. They were just blabbing about the Lions endlessly even though the season ended months before, then awkwardly turned the Wings game on with no transition. What a crap station.

Roy has done pretty well as Coach/GM of the Ramparts for what...8 years now? It worked for Babs....he was in the WHL for 8 years before making the jump, wasn't he?

Agree, not sure why he isn't in the booth instead. Edzo is more boring than annoying. The Hawks start losing and then he gets depressed and stops trying.

I think so too, you see the reaction from the rest of the guys is kind of like "haha...um wtf?" and then they must realize he trips over his words regularly, and give him a pass and move on. Pretty stupid though. Like NBC stupid.

That stickwork looks exactly like a younger Jimmy, so why not? Jimmy's stickwork still blows...lol I don't think it matters, didn't Lashoff go back and forth to GR during the playoffs already? I think it's more about keeping Tatar in a spot where he can lead the entire team through the AHL playoffs. Its not just about him, he's allowing the entire team to have a deep playoff run, furthering development.

He's trying to educate a non hockey audience on some of the typical background of how a player comes up through the ranks. It is quite different than the other pro sports in many ways. But, I do mostly agree with you since he does it over and over in such a superficial "I just looked at Wikipedia" way that it adds very little to the broadcast. Now if Pierre wants to narrate some highlight clips of players in college or juniors, that's different. But he shant, because NBC would never give up precious commercial time for that.

I have to agree with Shanny's banny video. The fact that he slides through with minimal force of impact on himself, and Stoll goes flying....um yeah. Torres is a punk thug, he should have learned by now. AHL career coming up for this guy.

Babs doesn't get mention because the team didn't clinch a spot in the playoffs until the final day of the season (for the Western Conference, anyway). That is pretty hard to overcome. I'm surprised that Adam Oates wasn't nominated in place of Bruce. Perhaps someone was angry that there will be no Caps/Pens series. Wonder who that could be...

Did you see the Game 7 comeback by the Bruins the other night? Less than half the 3rd period was left, and they were down by 3, not two. They were playing like crap, looked like they had given up. But, they got their chit together, focused, and bounced back for the win. Why don't the Wings seem to have that kind of character? Everyone says it was a Leafs collapse...I say it was an inexperienced team shellshocked by the ******* dragon the Bruins suddenly turned into with 9 minutes left in the game.
