Unfortunately, I don't think any of those teams can take the team names, colors, or logos with them if they were to try that.

Ok, this is a potentially nice consolation prize in the face of the imminent lockout. Dreger reports tonight:

Absolutely agree. Although, Mr. Ilitch probably won't get even most of what he wants out of this CBA. LOL @ the "you're such good friends with Bettman, why don't you call him?" comment

Tim Thomas is from my hometown. I don't care if he's crazy or not.

Signed Wings sign Carlo Colaiacovo to 2 year deal, $2.5m cap hit

I never thought we'd have that guy on the Wings. Yay. -
LOL, I guess there must be a part 2, because they didn't get to Fehr? Also....there's no way I'm watching NASCAR during the lockout

NHL/NHLPA/AHL strike special waiver period for players on two-way contracts: Sbnation Pardon my ignorance with current contracts, but who all will this apply to? Is Brunner screwed because he chose to go back to Switzerland until the AHL season started?

Odd news...the NHLPA might get the Habs, Oilers, and Flames exempt from the lockout through legal protections in Quebec and Alberta. Not only does this put pressure on the league, but could we have some kind of exhibition games or tournament (invite some KHL all-stars team, SEL all-stars, etc)? The league would cave in a matter of no time. http://m.espn.go.com/nhl/story?storyId=8363322

How the Leafs are being managed is a disgrace. This should not happen to ANY Original Six team. I'd much rather hate the Leafs for being a worthy opponent to the Wings, especially in the context of hockey history. Now, we all just look at them with pity. A second GTA team would solve this quickly.

Will be receiving some Griffs in Toledo while Wings players line the Griffs roster?

Wow, nice wine cellar. And a his/her dual shower. Also nice

T-minus 12 days to lockout

HAHAHA poor Brian Burke...dead last in the NHL rankings!

Wow, what an amazing tribute! The Wings ought to play that....but then, I think people might just talk over it at the Joe. I wonder who the artist was?
-
Good list of logos. Glad that the Tigers and Wings devotion to classic looks pay off (99% of the top logos are all classic). What, this Nashville one wasn't good enough???
-
Shanny. Many on here called it a couple years ago when it became clear that he was positioning himself for a league job. Bettman might have to voluntarily retire first, though.

I guess the excuses for Yzerman to not participate since he's the GM of the Tampa Bay Lightning are invalid now that the GM of the Dallas Stars is playing for Toronto in the Alumni game?

These are actually pretty easy to make at home, usually had them during the holidays growing up courtesy of scandinavian relatives. They do seem to be "american sized" though

Probably not, since its an official NHL event, with the NHL logos and names and all of that. That being said, it could easily go ahead re-branded as something else since its being held in a non-nhl venue. Probably without the current names and logos...maybe some old throwback names and logos would do the trick (Detroit Cougars vs. Toronto St. Patricks, for example).

I'm sorry, I'll have to pick at your statement there. If they're going to have to consider keeping 18 teams afloat, then some sort of "contraction clause" has to be in there, so that another Phoenix Coyotes doesn't happen, all the while siphoning millions off the profitable teams. Possible contraction has to be on the table.

He'll sign a 2 year extension after this contract is up, and then go back to Mother Russia. It all depends on his level of play in the next 2 seasons, though. Which, I don't see any problems with....short of some freak injuries.

Nope. Sign some replacements for whoever we're trading for a defender.

Who started this s***? It won't die, no matter what hockey forum I seem to look at. In extremely and overly simplistic terms, think of a sports commissioner as similar to a Chairman of the Board, and the Board of Governors (owners) as a Board of Directors, minus the influence of shareholders. Now, I don't think that many view Chairmen of large corporations as "talking heads". They have a lot of influence in guiding an organization. Why does Bettman get re-branded as nothing more than a spokesman for the Board of Governors?
