Wings vs. Flyers. Sept 22nd in London ON

Geeez...why are the tickets so expensive for an exhibition? I always thought it would be cool if they would play an exhibition in The Barn in Windsor...thats where it all started anyway.

Brian Rafalski announces retirement after 11 NHL seasons

The Detroit Free Press has a little poll of who Holland should go after for a replacement....Kevin Bieska is in the lead with...JOVO RIGHT BEHIND HIM Freep story and poll Bieska with 43% and Jovo with 36%...followed by Kaberle with 8% I really don't understand the attraction with Ed Jovanovski? Even Helene St. James, who wrote the article, seems to think its a good idea.

    Brian Rafalski appreciation thread

A decent defensive coach, resulting in a more effective D, resulting in even greater play by Rafalski. The Wings defensive woes were NOT his fault, but what I'm saying is that we can imagine his stats would have been greater (or more up to his skill level) if the teams defense was more effective. Many would say it was compromised under McCrimmon's watch. Thats the shame here.

    Brian Rafalski appreciation thread

I'm honestly shocked that our #2 D-Man is apparently retiring. It was a shame that McCrimmon ruined the Lidstrom/Rafalski pairing the last few years...someone string that bastard up!!! Now we're going to probably lose them both As others have said, Brian's showing in the last Olympics were nothing short of amazing. It makes you wonder how great he could have been on the Wings (he was very very good, but not GREAT) had the right conditions been there.

    Atlanta Thrashers move to Winnipeg

    YEEEHAAWWW! Ok, what is Sockey?

    Re-alignment

Those are pretty cool, I like the division you put the Wings in...it keeps the Chicago rivalry and brings back Toronto. Awesome! I might swap Colorado and Vancouver in the Northwest and Pacific, but I see what you're doing...putting Vancouver in the Pacific works as far as time zone issues, etc.

    Re-alignment

As Eva pointed out, it doesn't make sense to have the "Southeast" or whatever division you call that one with the Florida teams in the conference with Vancouver. What about 3 divisions and no conferences?...combine the two far-west divisions in the West, combine your Southern division with the division you've made with the Caps and Canes, and obviously combine the two northern ones. Maybe even have them in 3 conferences with the same divisions you've made. I don't know why we NEED an East/West. East, West, and South should work fine.
  9. Yeah its just good ol' Gary trying to keep it a more interesting series. Lots of ratings to be lost if a Canadian team makes the finals

    Atlanta Thrashers move to Winnipeg

Well its an ego thing, and Bettman has a huge ego. The Coyotes were his baby, and the Thrashers were not. Pretty pathetic, eh?

    Atlanta Thrashers move to Winnipeg

What a great time for hockey fans...I can only hope this plays itself out and Winnipeg gets a team as they deserve one a hell of a lot more than Atlanta, who barely supports the Braves. Ditto for Phoenix...we'll be talking about this same stuff next spring, only it will be relocating to Quebec City instead. Stop putting hockey teams in markets where they're not appreciated!!! From ESPN: Former Thrasher Ray Ferraro: Contrast the poor fan showings in Atlanta and Phoenix with Winnipeg last night: And they don't even officially have a team yet, and haven't in 15 years! It sucks to say this, since I live in Arizona, but bring the NHL back to where people WANT it and appreciate it.

Brad McCrimmon will not return for 2011/2012

Well, five teams will have positions to fill, and when Boughner doesn't get a call since he has almost no pro-hockey coaching experience, you'll see him jump aboard the Wings wagon. Has a team ever hired a head coach who has one season of assistant coaching at a pro level under his belt? I'd be curious to know.

    Atlanta Thrashers move to Winnipeg

You forgot one of the most important factors in the post-lockout era: revenue sharing. That, combined with a strong dollar/loonie, strong (well, stronger than ours) canadian economy, new arena, and good ownership should be a recipe for success in the Peg.

    Atlanta Thrashers move to Winnipeg

I'm not really sure whats going on here, The Globe and Mail usually is a pretty decent newspaper...and yet it seems like they jumped the gun on this one. True North is denying that a deal is done...and Daly is saying the Board of Governors hasn't agreed to anything (obviously, but an important point). Well now, assuming the deal does go through, how do we think the Board will vote? Seems like True North played this much better than Mr. Blackberries, so lets see. Also, to the guy who was speculating if the Wings would be placed in the Penguins' division.... if thats going to happen, just keep them in the West!!!

Brad McCrimmon will not return for 2011/2012

This could be a good move...and who knows if the "family and business commitments in Windsor" are the main reason, but if it is, its much less of an issue if he joins the Wings.

Brad McCrimmon will not return for 2011/2012

TSN sez: "Sources say McCrimmon and head coach Mike Babcock mutually agreed it was the right time to make the change." a.k.a. "you're fired". I don't think its the Wings style to embarrass anyone and say it publicly.

HAHAHAHA YES!!!!!! This wouldn't have happened if we won the Cup! lol
  18. Get out the brooms, the Sharks are done
  19. He said Vinnie is playing better because Guy Boucher is french....and he called it the french connection. MMMKAY
  20. HAHA did you catch the "french connection" comment by JR? What a moron lol
  21. So folks, is this series a dive-fest or is it actually worth watching? I had to take a break after the Wings got eliminated

    Draft Talk

Khokhlachev should be taken right around the Wings first round pick, and I agree that he seems more like a top 10 prospect because theres more potential there. Some Spits fans should weigh in, and I know we have quite a few of those around.

Which conference would you rather have the Wings in?

East by choice, but in reality they will stay in the West. Nashville will move to the Southwest conference even though they'll be the only team in the East in another time zone (lol), slapping a band-aid on Bettman's venture into the South. Also, they're a younger team, in a non-traditional market, and I would say they would be strengthened by having a nice rivalry with say, the Hurricanes which are right next door. The Wings have no such survival issues so they'll remain where they are. Maybe in the future they'll move east, when Texas gets another team (they could easily handle it), or Seattle finally builds an arena so they can have a team. But thats not happening anytime soon.

    Thrashers possibly done in Atlanta!

Nashville is in the Central time zone, which would make it the odd team out in the whole Eastern Conference. You're right about the ratings issue with Western teams though...and I doubt the league wants to break up the Chicago/Detroit "rivalry". Most of us would like to get the Leafs/Wings rivalry back, but when the hell are the Leafs going to be a good team again? On another note, Bettman shows how inept he is...again... From the LA Times:
