Ah, the blame should be falling on McCrimmon...everyone's bitched about him all season, and its the same old thing again tonight: mental mistakes on the part of the D. Babs does share blame though, by not dumping his ass and getting a replacement.
-
uh..... so dumping lebda and lilypad coming back up will help...a bit....but the defensive mistakes are ridiculous

damn, someone give howie a stick-work clinic...

anyone watching drumnj's stream? pm me the password, thanks

The Swedish team blows this Olympics, compared to last time. Alot of it is due to poor roster choices. Theres no excuse for that! I hope Team USA takes them out for the Bronze.

I agree with both of these posts. The leafs did dump alot of junk/spare parts, for sure. I'm not really sure if they improved though? Where is the Leafs' offense???? DUMP KABERLE AND GET SOME FORWARDS!!!!!! And why is Finger still there?
-
All non-participants should be practicing their asses off the whole two weeks. Didn't Bowman do something like that during one of the Olympic breaks in years past? At the very least, some players should be singled out for this. Osgood and Bertuzzi would make sense. And Leino, for sure. Can we send him down to GR for the Olympic break?

HAHAHA! Farjestad won't piss off the NHL, so Axelsson is going to russia, right? ******!!!!

Detroit vs. Toronto at Michigan Stadium wouldn't be better? -
On one hand, I agree with you here. Maltby should have been gone in the last off-season, and Drapes should be gone after this season....but its not going to work out like that. Had Maltby (and maybe Drapes?) retired, could we have kept Hudler? I'd like to think so. Anyhow, this is all pointless when talking about Axelsson. He has no backbone, no maturity, and wouldn't have stayed even if the Wings got rid of the geezers. The guy has a history of acting like a spoiled little kid, and this is just a continuation of that. Good riddance. Maybe the Wings' scouting team should take character into account more often, though.

Damn, that sucks about the goal. Meanwhile....LEBDA IS INJURED! YESSS!!!!

HAHA for once.

This rule looks the NHL look like a cheap daytime gameshow...

Yeah, the new arena needs to be built. Mr. I has the real estate, and has had it for a while now. We all know why he bought the nice big piece of land next to the Fox. The only thing he's waiting for is an economic recovery for the building of said arena. Who knows when Michigan will start to turn around? I'm sure a new arena would energize the Wings' fanbase. Not that it really NEEDS to be, but of course we all know the Joe is not much of a building...besides all the great memories contained there, its sub-par. Great views of the ice though. If a new arena is built, and the Joe is torn down, I would like to see the Wings play at the Palace up in Auburn Hills in the meantime (for a season). I think this would draw in more people from the burbs, and they'd be hooked when the new arena opened. And how about a preseason game in Windsor. Who hasn't been to games and seen the cars lined up to go back across the river? Thats a big part of the Wings' fanbase, and can't be ignored. I'm sure theres more interest to be tapped there.

No, the demographics of Michigan makes it hard to support another NHL team. Over half of Michigan's population live in the south-east part of the state, leaving no other LARGE city to support a team. I do think when the economy turns around (eventually?) that it could handle another AHL team, for sure. Lansing or Ann Arbor would be good spots, perhaps?
-
uh what? how did that happen?

Hold on a sec...Lilja skated??? The mlive link said: Does this mean hes getting closer? I don't anticipate him until after the Olympics at the soonest, but still...this was surprising to see his name pop up like that. I'm excited to see Kindl finally suit up for the big team.

1. Getting rid of Lebda is a great idea no matter what you get for him. I say trade him for a 5th rounder. Or just waive him. WHO CARES?!?! 2. Leino needs to be benched a while, or maybe even thrown back on Defense i.e. Fedorov/Bowman. I'm sure (hope) Babs is being tough enough on these guys, but I think theres a weak link in the coaching system. And we all know who this is: 3. McCrimmon. Fire his ass now. These are three easy moves that could be done immediately that would improve the Wings.
-
LOL! Well, hes in Australia so give him a break. I don't imagine he gets games down there, on TV anyhow. I think the problem with the PK is McCrimmon. FIRE HIM ALREADY!
-
I'm not sure what Rafalski's problem is....he seems to be prone to mental mistakes. This became glaringly noticeable during the playoffs last season. Is it him taking the wrong approach to the game, or perhaps some off-ice distraction? Hes a good player, but hes not putting the mental effort forward that he used to.

Simple solution. Introduce a challenge flag/signal/whatever like the NFL has. If its obvious, the coach can call a challenge and it will overrule the ref and go up to the video booth. Not rocket science here....

That technology has been around 20 years or more. Like I said, the NHL is stuck in the 80s. Do we see innovation under Bettman?

Red Wings draft pick Johan Ryno plays for AIK. Do we still have his rights or did we just lose him?

I was surprised that only 25 NHLers come from Wisconsin, while 201 come from Minnesota, and 119 from Michigan. Cool site, thanks.
