Pure Incompetence from the Commissioner down to the refs. The amazing thing is how out-of-date the NHL looks in 2009 when it comes to things like this. They're stuck in the late 80s. Seriously....you have on-ice refs that have no communication with the video judge up in his box unless they skate over to a telephone behind glass? And that video judge isn't in constant communication with the "war room" in Toronto, either? He uses a fax machine for after game reports? What??? It boggles the mind when you consider how backward the league is in some ways, and I'm not even getting into the rule system.

The free streams are there because the NHL doesn't offer a decent product. Demand dictates that alternatives fill the void. Thats what the free streaming is about. Now if the NHL offered a better online streaming product, and it was priced much better, then we wouldn't be talking about this. MLB.tv, the official MLB online streaming solution, is a much superior product, and its priced better. It puts NHL Gamecenter to shame. Even the NBA official streaming is slightly cheaper and still looks like a better product. And as far as the NFL goes, "NFL Game Pass HD" is offered to anyone outside North America (no idea on the price, can't access it from here). I honestly don't know what the league thinks its doing when they offer a substandard product for $170, then blackout a ton of games, and don't really broadcast any postseason action either. They OWN the games! $170 should be MORE than enough to compensate for any licensing issues with tv carriers, etc. And whats the reason theres no NHL stuff like this???

Thats a shame. I don't understand why the Griffins aren't supported more. Michigan is a hockey state, and they're the Wings' "farm team" so to speak. I'm sure I speak for many LGWers who would love to go see the Grifs on a regular basis, if we lived in the area.

Yeah, 1-3 in such a long time isn't a good record. But aren't you missing something more significant here? The Wings have only played the Leafs FOUR TIMES in four seasons! I hate the divisional structure Bettman has encouraged. It makes no sense that a team 4 hours away (and a HISTORIC RIVAL, too!) is played against much less than a team 30+ hours away. I think the Wings record would be much better if they got to play more than once a season on average.

Theres the old Ivor Wynne CFL stadium in Hamilton that holds an extra 10,000 more than BMO. Bettman could apologize to Hamilton by having it there? Seriously though, theres no way you can have a Winter Classic in TORONTO of all places in a tiny venue like BMO. Its Rogers or Riots!

Agreed. I don't know why Holland wouldn't have picked up Christensen over Drew Miller. He has 42 goals/98 points out of 218 NHL games....and hes the same age, 25. Not only that, hes a bigger guy than Miller. WTF Holland? The only thing I figure is the Wings' scouts saw something we can't. Miller did have decent numbers in college and the AHL, but hasn't adjusted to the NHL well yet. Diamond in the rough?

A few less games might be of benefit if they were replaced with something else. I always thought the NHL needed some more interesting things going on during the season...the Winter Classic is a great addition to the long regular season. I would like to see something like...the Victoria Cup played some other time than the preseason (nobody cares then!), and the World Cup of Hockey is something the NHL, since they organize it, should actually be used to benefit the game. Or just forget the shortened season. Maybe an Original Six mini-tournament over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend? Or not even an Original Six match, maybe some classic rivalries on a rotating basis. Winner would get some kind of old trophy from years gone by, I'm sure the HHOF has loads of those. Have it be 8 teams with 1 game elimination. All games would be nationally broadcast, during prime viewing hours, and the tournament would have some clever name. And yes these would be regular season games. Winner could be visitor at the next season's Winter Classic?
