Yeah, when I saw Cleary out there, I wondered what the hell he was doing. Sloppy D, as usual. Even Lids made a retarded play (the bad pass) to let Nashville score one. Oh, and Osgood always found a way to leave a huge gaping hole in the net...how many times does he have to be burned being off to the side before he figures out not to do that????

Ya know, the Thrashers might just be on to something

Agreed. Great post! I also miss the organ playing vs. "kid rock"...its probably something that goes along with having a team that has been around since the 1920s: a better appreciation for tradition. Could they have ice girls and have it be less flashy than some of the newer/southern teams? Yeah I think so....we don't need any yeehaw line-dancing BS like Phoenix, for example. Still, the reason most of these other teams have the ice girls in the first place is for marketing, however small of a draw it might be. Detroit obviously doesn't need them for that reason. Bring back more organ music and non-dancing ice girls? Might be a good compromise, haha. -
AHAHAHA Avery is such a dumbass. This is to be expected from him though! How do you like Sjostrom going after Thomas? Obviously he has no clue....

hey shoreline, i thought this was a discussion board? do we need your approval for anything? no?
-
I agree, he needs to go...although it won't happen until after the end of the season. If the Wings win the Cup, awesome! Forget about it then! But if not, someone has to answer for it, and I think hes the one who should get fired. How does a defense go from elite to sloppy over a summer, with virtually all the same players? COACHING

Sunday's game against the Wild moved to 12:30 on NBC
evilmrt replied to HockeyCrazy3033's topic in General
Wow brilliant move, NBC. 9:30am start time, who the hell is going to watch that in the West? Is golf on later so you had to push the game to an early start time? I really hope that article a couple weeks ago about a possible deal with ESPN and Versus sharing broadcasting rights will happen next season, this NBC crap is pathetic. -
Finally Cherry stops picking on Ovechkin.....because he's a fan of Coach's Corner? Or maybe it was the tons of emails that HNIC got? Pretty funny on Ovie's part, taking the high-road/funny-route...another reason why this guy should be "sold" better to the public in the states...I think he's a much better figure than Crosby anyday, in that sense. I'm going to order one of those t-shirts though....hahaha....

This is something Holland should have in mind for when Lids does retire....which could be the season after next....or maybe not! I think Homer will most likely retire by that time, as hes been mumbling about it for a while now... The absense of Lidstrom will require a substantial pickup in either a top goaltender, or a top D-man, and we can keep the current Howard/Larsson/etc goalie pipeline going. I think its way too early to be able to judge what will happen....maybe wait until next off-season is over, we might have a better idea.

Yeah I actually live in Arizona. Thanks The Coyotes organization is a mess, and a joke. The Wings coming to town is a nice thing, but then you get hassled by the staff at the arena. The organization absolutely hates Wings fans (anyone watched the FSN Arizona broadcasts when Detroit is in town??? they have a gigantic chip on their shoulder about Wings fans!), and I really am not on their side. Plus, the large majority of people here don't give a rip about the game....so I have no problem if they move to somewhere that actually appreciates hockey. I can always go to the Joe when I'm visiting family back in Michigan.
-
HAHAHAHA. If you didn't think the Coyotes were going under from a whole TWO sellouts (the canucks game last weekend was the second this season), and games that are regularly untelevised in the Coyotes' home market....take a look at this act of marketing despiration! Have fun in Hamilton, Portland, Vegas, St. Louis, or wherever you move.

If I can't choose the Wings... How about a Chicago/Boston final? Sounds good to me...

Phoenix Coyotes -- Worst organization in sports
evilmrt replied to RedLightGoesOn's topic in General
Just a note on the Coyotes and how bad shape they're in.....tonights game against the Wings was listed to be carried on Fox Sports Arizona.....and WAS NOT AIRED ANYWHERE. They didn't even televise the game here in Arizona! Its only a matter of time before they're gone. -
Bringing back the World Cup of Hockey is a great idea, and I like the idea of international play every 2 years. One week off in the odd years isn't so bad at all, especially if the players want it (this is the players' union speaking, afterall). I wonder if there is some way that the IIHF could be brought on board, and combine the World Championships with the World Cup? The Alumni game is something that should already be a part of the All-Star Weekend. Since they would be expanding it, how about featuring the AHL All-Star game as well? That would require some partnership between the two leagues, but it could fill a day and show off the young talent, which is a benefit to the NHL.

Eklund says it, so the NHL will probably be on the Home Shopping Network. Meanwhile, why does anyone pay attention to him?
-
By the way, what ever happened to the warm-up/exhibition game against Färjestads BK? This was in the Swedish press, and now I haven't heard anything about it. Seems like this would be alot cheaper and a nice option for those who missed out on the other tickets.
-
Yeah, I was a little puzzled when I heard Burke talking on NHL Network a little while ago. They asked him about Kolzig and he said something like "well, that was a special kind of trade, something that I'm not going to talk about right now". Is that all there is to it?
-
Well, there wasn't much on the market that would have been worth it. The biggest thing the Wings needed to address was the Defense, and they did....by simply calling up Ericsson. I am a little confused though....I thought Ericsson was playing hurt? Is this really supposed to stir up the D as much as Holland might think? Maybe someone should have been aquirred. Oh well, we'll see how it works out.

Phoenix Coyotes -- Worst organization in sports
evilmrt replied to RedLightGoesOn's topic in General
HAHA you must have known everyone here was going to say the Lions were the worst team.... But yeah, living in Arizona, its frustrating having having the Coyotes be so pathetic season after season. I do like the trades that happened, the Yotes get more depth, some good draft picks, and dump Olli, who cost way too much and didn't really help the team at all. They'll still be moving within the next couple years, though. They needed a good playoff run THIS SEASON to help them get out of the huge pit of red ink that they're in, and it didn't happen. Oh well, Balsillie is happy. What do you guys think of Prucha? I always expected a bit more from this guy....maybe a change of scenery will make a difference? -
nope, still works for me...although the sound is going a little weird, like an old warped VHS tape...haha...

thanks for the link! helpful tip: just get yourself banned from the chat if you find it annoying

TA-DA! Kick his ass out, problem solved.
-
Your point about Rafalski among all the others is valid (about him making defensive errors....stupid ones in my opinion, and very uncharacteristic of him), and seeing it for myself this season (along with the entire defense) makes me wonder....could this be a coaching problem? On paper, we have some really great defensemen, but they just aren't MENTALLY playing where they should be. In a situation like that, whats the problem? I'm not blaming Babs, but I don't know what else to point at when its so obvious that the problem is a mental one. I think they should experiment with pairings, for sure....but that should only be a START to the solution.
-
agreed, but my question is...can one d-man make a big enough impact to bring about enough change, or are we going to need an additional trade as well (on defense)? meech needs to go bye-bye.
-
And what about after tonight? I know they're thinking about how to solve the goalie problem. Can someone lay out how a Lehtonen deal would realistically work?
-
yeah, I also would like to know this....it must at least rank up there in the worst losses in modern wings history. anyway, I expect a defensive addition at the deadline at the very least, and perhaps even a goalie as well. this is a bigger deal than many on here seem to realize...I doubt management is as optimistic as you guys tonight.
