After 'hiding from everybody,' Emery tries to right ship

Funny how that article addressed his anger issues but didn't address the fact that he was an amateur boxer. Anyway, I think he'll be back if he is serious about stopping the rock star lifestyle and attitude.

    beers!

Corona is definitely terrible, as is Heineken (in the US anyway), but I can't agree with you on Sleemans. I had it whilst spending a week in Canada and didn't like it (tried 3 varieties) then I had it at a vendor tasting a few months ago and even the vendor said it was pretty bad and that it would be the last time they would bring it to a tasting because they decided not to carry it in the states anymore. I'll say the Cream Ale isn't terrible. My biggest problem with them (much like Michigan Brewing Co.) is that they are very middle of the road, they don't make anything extreme or branch out. That's all obviously JMO though. When u coming to town HL? We have half off big bottles Sunday-Tuesday altho I'm sure I can finagle that deal on any night. Oh, and did I mention that we have this on tap: http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/founders-breakfast-stout/14956/

If you think Sleeman's is good and Guinness sucks we probably aren't going to get along. BTW, when you say "Canadian" do you mean Molson? Also, in reference to homebrewing it's a lot of fun and it makes you so proud when your beer turns out well and you know that you made it with your own two hands. I highly recommend it to anyone who really likes good beer. I got very lucky and got about $500 of equipment for half that because one of my friends had to sell his equipment.

Yeah, it's because they use a lot of rice in their beer. Crappy ingredients = crappy feeling in the morning.

Bowman named Senior Advisor to Blackhawks

Now that's funny. On a serious note, if his son's cancer is serious, then I can totally understand why he would want to be around him as much as possible. Family first, thanks for 3 cups Scotty!

So on a similar note, I was told that tipping is not that much the rage there, but the customers buy the bartender drinks. Equalizer is that the bartender makes a great hourly wage. I'd be all over that. I firmly believe that my wage should be dependent upon my service and experience, not upon the type of clientele who happen to walk in the bar that night. FWIW, I'm glad that you guys don't drink Fosters because the version we get here is total s***, maybe yours is different. They call it an "oilcan" here for a reason, lol.

No. Speaking of which, I was told that you guys don't drink Fosters over there?

    Why Pens fans hate Hossa

Even as a rental, I understand that they're upset because he is a good player and they don't have him anymore. But, they're upset, so what? Doesn't really matter to me. We're better now and they're worse.

Good stuff, we've had Dead Guy and Arrogant Bastard on tap and both of them are great. We seem to have problems getting Anchor Steam lately but I've had a few of theirs and couldn't complain. As far as Kokanee...I had it when I was in Kamloops and I can't say I liked it at all, but then again I'm not a lager fan. It's only in the 18th percentile on ratebeer.com though, so I'd say most people agree with me. And 5.3% may be hight up for a macro lager, but I just had a Devil Dancer the other day, made right here by Founders in Grand Rapids, Michigan. 13% Triple IPA. On a related note, I'm happy to say that one of the top ten beers in the world ( http://www.ratebeer.com/Ratings/Ratings-Top50.asp ) is Bell's Expedition Stout, made right here in Michigan. And here's a funny commercial for a terrible beer. name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>&"> name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350" />

I wasn't sure that you were talking about beer. Anyway, did you have the Pyramid on draft or in the bottle? I find it interesting that certain beers are way better on tap and some are way better in the bottle. Depends on a lot of factors.

I have the same problem with Stella as I do with Heineken. They both taste skunked to me and it's probably because they are shipped overseas in green bottles. It is well-established that green and clear bottles offer very little protection for the beer. Also, at least in my area all of the people who ask for Stella are yuppies who think they know good beer but turn up their nose at local Michigan micros. I imagine there are probably a lot lless yuppies down there tho.

    beers!

That sounds like a lot of fun. As someone who has attended a lot of beer tastings, if you need any advice let me know, I'll give some basics here. One way to narrow down your beers is to check the color first. IPAs will pretty much always be a cloudy amber. Stouts will always be dark brown or black. Wheats will generally be a cloudy lighter yellow/amber. Pilsners are generally yellow and clear. Smell the beer before you taste it. Take a good whiff while shaking the glass in a circle to release the effervescence. That's the nose. Take a sip, and gurgle it a bit in your mouth, swish it around with your tongue for a few seconds before swallowing. That's the mouth. Do that again with another sip, then swallow and breathe out and in. There's the finish. Have fun!

Southern Comfort has both peach and apricot in it and personally I think it's pretty damn good. I just had an Alabama Slammer last night actually. Which "alcohols" are you speaking of here?

Not to speak for her, but it looks like a 96 with something else behind it.

    beers!

We've been carrying #9 for quite a while now, it's an apricot ale and I would suggest that if it didn't have much taste to you then perhaps you had a bad batch. I also find that it's better on draft than in the bottle. It's great mixed with Guinness (a Black Magic, as they call it). Bell's Best Brown is still one of their best sellers, tho not comparable to the mighty Oberon. As far as the hops issue, I really don't want to argue about it anymore but I go to beer tastings on a regular basis and talk to brewers from all over the US (especially from the midwest area) and I haven't had anyone that has not been able to get hops. Perhaps part of that is because a large part of our micros in the midwest and eastern coast use hops grown here.

    beers!

Look man, here's the breakdown: Yes, there was a shortage of hops IN CERTAIN AREAS, but there was/is no worldwide shortage. Sam Adams came up with a ton of hops to sell to breweries who were having problems with their normal suppliers. Obviously Sam Adams was getting their hops from somewhere. No offense to you, maybe you know what you are talking about in Australia, but our USA microbreweries are doing just fine on supplies. And personally I don't give a s*** about the macrobreweries.

The pen in the hair works with the skin, sort of a geisha look there. To add a bit more fun here, this is one from Halloween. Hockey meets whiskey meets Photoshop meets me looking totally crazy and my buddy Rob on 8 shots.

A myth, IMO. Hops can grow almost anywhere. I've heard this rumor as well, but my local homebrew suppliers have yet to see an increase in cost, or a shortage in supplies. If in fact they do turn out to be in short supply I'll start my own online hops shop, in fact that is what I'll call it, because I have a bunch in my freezer right now and I can make those ******* replicate. On a serious note, hops are essentially a flower, grown on a vine, in the same family as pot. I don't even smoke pot, but I think it's interesting. Maybe if hops are hard to get, pot will be as well. Potheads of the world freak out, you paranoid so-and-sos!!! Gotcha, Charles!

Lest I explain it badly, I like this linky. Euro IPAs have gone the way of the dodo here, mainly because they are mild and harder to distribute. BTW, in the link I do not agree that Goose Island's IPA is Euro, but I suppose that is splitting hairs. The story of the IPA is a great one, regardless of what you think of the style. The concept of fortifying a beer in order for it to make the trip overseas is classic to me. BTW, hl, if you haven't had it, the Stone Ruination IPA might be right up your alley. I split a bottle last night and it loved me long time. It's almost an imperial, or maybe it is?
