I don't usually make predictions, but the win and the Prez's cup tonight. Unfortunately, I will be playing in my own playoff game when this game ends. Wish me luck!
-
Thanks for letting us know about extra tix. If I could get it confirmed that Game 2 is on Saturday, 4/12 I would buy tix right now. Please if anyone hears confirmation please let me know.

With one point tonight we can clinch the President's trophy on wins. Not saying the President's Trophy means much one way or the other but I will say this: I'm sick of people saying that a President's Trophy win means an early playoff exit. The last time we won the Cup we also won the Prez's Trophy. So, whatever, there's a great chance we'll win it this year and it doesn't mean diddly to me in reference to the playoffs.

As much as Cheli was hated, it was Forsberg's hit to Larionov's head while he was down which led to the 97 Bloodbath. For this I would have to say I can understand how people might not want him in Detroit.

Agreed. Obviously the Ducks showed that they were better than any team in the East, and IMO we got a couple of bad calls at the wrong times which cost us that last game. Losing Schneider hurt us a ton. Change those two things and I think we would have won the Cup. This year with the physicality of Franzen, Drake, Downey, Cleary and Kronwall I think we have added even more toughness. Now this is not to say that we are more physical than other teams, because we are not, but as someone already pointed out, we don't win our games with pure physical presence like the goony Ducks try to do. Our game is skill, puck possession and patience. But to answer the question, yes I think we are physical enough to win a cup this year.

Sammy sucks.

Out of curiosity, what compression do you use? I have a degree in Film Direction so I've had some experience with various software and compressions. Any job openings for video-related positions down there? I'm looking to quit my day job and get into something related to my degree.

I agree. Not only has Franzen earned a spot on the #1 line, but he also plays like Homer, which is good for 40/13s rhythm going into playoffs.
-
I have to say, SWF, I think I totally agree with your lines.

As a player I think Sammy does well overall, but he shouldn't be on the PP. Like many have said, he shoots way too many pucks into a non-shooting lane which results in (at best) no shot or (at worst) a breakaway against us. He shouldn't ever play the role of a defenseman, PP or not. I don't understand why Babs wouldn't be trying Stuart out on PP before the playoffs come up. For those defending him, it's very simple in my eyes. He takes way too many ill-chosen shots for a top 6 player. His stats clearly bear that out. That is what people are complaining about and rightly so, IMO.

And over 40,000 people were killed in accidents not related to alcohol. Statistics are skewed. Now I don't deny that sometimes people just get totally wasted and run over someone or drive right into opposing traffic, however the majority of the time that drunk drivers get into accidents the accident isn't even their fault. And please don't argue with me on that point, it was told to me by my probation officer after I got my DUI. You sound like a MADD representative. I was drag racing when I got my DUI. Drag racing is dangerous in and of itself. I was also 3.5x the legal limit at that time. Even with all that, I was driving better than most people do sober. I got pulled over for speeding. Now I don't excuse me drinking and driving, nor do I excuse me drag racing on a main street, however, you equating what I did to playing Russian Roulette is retarded. I am a bartender so I have DOZENS of friends who have gotten DUIs and the majority of the time these people are fine to drive. Obviously there are exceptions to that. For instance I know a girl who failed a roadside test, yet going by her BAC she was ok to drive. I just miss the old days where bartenders cared about their customers and wouldn't let them drive drunk, but if they deemed them ok to drive then they would let them go and if the cops pulled them over the cops would generally ask them to go straight home and escort them there. This whole DUI campaign is about money-grabbing. I know enough judges, lawyers and politicians that I know that for sure. My apologies to anyone who knows someone who was killed by a drunk driver, but I have a friend from childhood who was killed by a NON-drunk driver.

Hope Pronger gets suspended. What an idiot. Also, who is this newscaster? She's hot.

Tactic or not, and effective or not, it still annoys me when people facewash, agitate and don't back anything up.

Awesome stuff. And I couldn't tell where you saw Redmond, but Mickey's brother Dick played for the Bruins. Mickey only played for Montreal and the Redwings.

I never said anything to the effect of appreciating Tootoo's fighting style. I know he's a dirty player. However, people were saying that he doesn't fight and he always turtles. That is simply not true. Tootoo is actually a very good fighter for his size. Doesn't change the fact that he throws dirty hits and cheapshot sucker punches all the time. And no, I would not want him on my team, I don't like dirty play.
-
Whether you guys like it or not, TT does fight and he does win fights. Now half the time he hauls off and starts punching before the other guy is ready, but if I was on the ice I would expect that from him. I hate the little prick and I wish he would get pounded into the ground, but at some point that is going to happen, we just have to be patient. His constant charges and sucker-punches don't change the fact that he is a good fighter and he does fight.
-
I never worry too much about who will sign, who will leave because the playoffs have a LOT to do with that. That's when we find out who we would even want to stay with us, and for what price.
-
Yeah, I'm sure that the fact he was leading the Griffins and Generals in Points/Game had nothing to do with bringing him up.
-
While I agree that Dats steals more pucks, I still think Z backchecks better. And although I agree that Z forechecks harder, I can't say that he does it better because I think Dats role requires him to spend more time in the slot or to the sides of the goal rather than behind it. That's all pretty much semantics tho.
-
Sorry I wasn't clear. He does one of those things every game. In last night's game he did both.
-
Sunday. And Lidstrom will be back too.
-
Two things: 1) Stop passing the puck to the other team in our zone. 2) Stop deflecting pucks into our own net. He does both of these things way more often than he should. Pretty much every game, in fact.
-
We'll see. Personally I don't think that you can say which one is better. Z is more of a pure scorer and plays better defense but Datsyuk is an amazing passer and stickhandler. PPG Z is still ahead, but not by a ton...
-
He's ok. Personally, altho maybe it's smarter for him to run his mouth without fighting, it's still annoying to me.
