Things you would like to see for 2015-16 Season
greenrebellion replied to sjr2012's topic in General
So true, sometimes this board drives me nuts with their pie in the sky ideas. -
I think it would just be good asset management. We have plenty of depth at D, Quincey is unlikely to return, so why not go out and try to get a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him.

Brouwer is a UFA after this season too though.

signed Red Wings sign D Mike Green (3-years, $18-million)
greenrebellion replied to Dominator2005's topic in General
Good post, I hope you are right. If anything, I just hope Wings fans go into next season not thinking this guy is the second coming of Bobby Orr (obvious hyperbole here). Green is obviously not washed up or anything and while I have my concerns about the deal and do not think it is a slam dunk...hopefully the last couple months of the season is not representative of Green's overall play and he fits in well in the Wings system. -

Green was dead last in Caps playoff points amongst D, so that argument doesn't fly. -

You don't need to go to forums to see what is obvious. Green sucks at D, he was a 3rd pairing D-man on the Caps, he was awful against the Rangers, he had two points in 14 games in the playoffs...he had two power play points in the last 2.5 months of the season and his play in general was pretty miserable towards the latter part of the season. I just don't see why everyone sees this as an absolute slam dunk deal. -

If thats what you have to tell yourself to help you sleep at night. Green's average time on ice has dropped significantly the past two consecutive seasons and in the most recent playoffs it dropped even more. But you are saying this was purely a loyalty thing since they weren't resigning him? Playing him less made the Caps worse as a team but it was worth it because they weren't resigning him? Ya, ok. -

Do you trust the caps coach? Green was demoted to the third pairing. -

Reading the Caps forums, they are generally thrilled to be rid of the guy. His offense was non-existant in the playoffs...14 games, 2 points. He's way past his prime, injuries have significantly derailed his natural abilities and his defense is subpar (and that's being nice). Only time will tell if this works out, but the more I look at it the more I dislike it....especially because we already have a glut of defensemen. My biggest surprise with this deal is how the near unanimous response of the signing on these boards is VERY positive. This is FAR from a slam dunk deal, and very well could be a disaster from day 1 as with Weiss. -

Over / Under on how many games Green lasts before becoming the LGW whipping boy for his defensive gaffes? -

Therein lies the problem. Holland isn't going to sign and trade Smith, not his style. Kindl has negative trade value (he'd be gone already if he had any value). So Marchenko and Ouellet are buried deep in the depth chart....not a good situation in my view. Doesn't mean I don't like the Green signing in a vacuum....but there is a lot more to consider than "Yeah, we just signed a big name D." -

Don't like this unless we are packaging multiple D in a trade package. We just signed Smith, Kindl has no trade value and have 3 or 4 AHL players that are likely NHL ready. Do Marchenko and Ouellet have to spend yet another year in the AHL? I'm a little peeved but I'll reserve judgement until the off-season is fully baked. -
No interest in green unless we are moving some guys out. We have way too many D as it is.
-
He didn't want to stay in Boston, that's why.

Holland doesn't expect to be busy this offseason

I am fine with standing pat this off-season as well. Give the kids the playing time. -
Just got back from the game. Very poor goaltending for the Griffins. Pulks was beast like out there but couldn't get the bounces. Might grab tickets for tomorrow's game. Also, Larkin definitely doesn't look out of place playing in the AHL.

signed Dylan Larkin turning pro... will play for GR immediately

Welp, looks like I'll be buying some Griffins tickets for the next round. -
Ya, all he ever does is shoot so its not surprising!
-
Pulkinnen has 11 goals in seven playoff games. WOW. Hopefully his game eventually translates to the NHL.

ECSF : (4) Washington Capitals vs. (1) New York Rangers

Honestly can't believe the Caps are beating this Rangers squad. Good on them, wouldn't mind seeing Ovi win a cup. -
Jim Devellano on Mantha's play: "Very disappointing"
greenrebellion replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
I went to games 4 and 5 of the latest Griffins series and was very disappointed in Mantha. Practically invisible, rarely touched the puck. Didn't add anything to the line he was on. -

I think we match up very well against the Habs. Really a shame we lost as I truly feel we could've made it to round three. -
Without Babcock this season, we miss the playoffs imo. Team's outperform their true talent when Babcock is coaching. Wouldn't be surprised if the Wings streak ended next season without him.

What game is the palat hit from? I don't recall seeing it.

People really blaming mrazek? He is the only reason we are playing a game 7.
