How do you figure? You'd have to assume the young players get worse, AHL callups don't contribute, and we somehow have even more injuries than we did last year. None of which are likely to happen.

I'm not quite as freaked out as most on this forum. Quincey is an overpay, we don't have much else to do with the money so it won't really matter. That said, I could definitely get on board with blowing the team up. Trading Z and Pavel would net us some very nice picks/prospects....combine those with our current crop of young players and Detroit becomes a very dangerous team in 3 to 4 years. My biggest fear is that we continue this "rebuild on the fly" (which to date I've generally been supportive of as I assumed FA's still wanted to sign here) and end up as a mediocre team for the next decade.

I'm no Holland basher, but all I'm saying is these contracts to older players have a lot of risk. You don't know exactly when a guys game is going to fall off a cliff, see Cleary, Sammy and Bert as examples of contracts/wasted roster spots.

Meh, he was a good signing last season, but the older he gets, the riskier it gets to bring him back. He's going to be turning 42 years old in December...how many forwards are still effective at that age? I wouldn't go more than $3 million and even that has plenty of risk....the problem with building a team with all these old players as Holland likes to do, is that old players are more injury prone.

The playoff streak is incredible and I, for one am glad they traded for Legrand to keep it alive. I know everyone here wants to compete for the cup every year but with 29 other teams vying for the same thing it just is not realistic. The Wings need to go through their down years just like everyone else. If they can "rebuild" on the fly and continue to make the playoffs throughout, all the better.

That line has done nothing in this series. Mixing it up by giving bert a shot for one game wont matter and most likely boosts ourpower play a bit.

Why do so many think Babcock is Jack Adams worthy...are most people crazy, are we all missing something? Are you saying that ice time for Holland acquisitions is your main issue with Babcock or was that just an example? Who are these players that aren't getting used that Holland wants used more? I'm sure that Holland didn't sign Samuellson and Cleary thinking that would play as bad as they did...and once they failed to perform, I doubt that Holland is sitting there going "Why oh Why are Cleary and Samuellson riding the pine." Legwand played heavy minutes helping us to get into the playoffs and now his icetime has been reduced a bit with people getting healthy but he still played 14 minutes last game. You can argue you don't like his role currently, but to say that Holland is acquiring players that Babcock doesn't use just isn't accurately portraying the situation.

You would think the team has missed the playoffs for 23 straight years given the commentary on this forum.

A few days ago people wanted him to win the Jack Adams. Difficult for coaching to overcome the talent gap between the two teams. Despite this forums strange beliefs, there is no magic line combo that will turn the Wings into Cup favorites. This forum has become pretty laughable with all the bashing that goes on here.

Mad props to Babcock, man did he have a game plan going into that game and he sold the message to the team.

Jackets and Wings have two games in hand, both teams have the tiebreaker and both teams are two points up. What that means is that Toronto essentially has to win out and Wings/Jackets can only get 9 points in the last 8 games. The odds of the Leafs winning out are insanely low, especially given how they've been playing. Leafs are done, Capitals are the main threat. Essentially three teams vying for two spots.

People ***** about practically every play in every game. It is tiring.

Bad calls happen all the time. It evens out. Every fan forum for every team is filled with fools who think the world is rigged against them. Psychologists have studied the phenomenon...its called selective memory, give it a rest. GOAL!!!!

This forum is barely readable anymore these days with all the incessant whining about the refs. Wings have been completely outplayed today, end of story.
