Where do you keep getting this million dollars from? It didn't cost them anywhere close to that amount.

Ya, actually I use hockeystreams as well and enjoy it. Part of the difficulty in evaluating the position of goaltender, like you pointed out, is that its a position that has a ton of nuances in it that can be difficult to grasp by the naked eye at full speed. A rebound absorbed or deflected to the right location just looks like a "normal" save, but a weaker goalie may give up the rebound or deflect it towards a player. Same with positioning, a snipe shot that goes over the shoulder and looks unsavable, may be saved by a goalie who is playing the angle just slightly better. Very tough position to evaluate. I try not to be too hard on Howard around here, but its fairly clear to me that he hasn't been playing well at all recently (outside of how good or bad the D is playing) and I'm worried about the playoffs if he doesn't bounce back.

Everyone on these forums needs to get a center ice sub and watch Lundquist and Thomas for a month, its really eye opening how many "unsavable" goals can be eliminated by rebound control and positioning
-
Ya because going down way out of your crease when the puck is practically on the back red line is really necessary and is solid positional goaltending.
-
Are you serious? Watch Thomas on Sunday when he plays the Wings, count how many times he gets caught way out of position like that. I'm not saying Howard needs to play like Thomas, but my god, his positioning has been HORRIBLE the past two months.
-
Why is howard way out of his net like that, you don't need to cut down the angle when the puck is off to the side like that. Horrible positioning, horrible D, horrible PK. But more on Howard than anyone else imo.
-
Get Vokoun and then resign him with the money made available when Lidstrom retires after we win the cup. With Vokoun in goal, we'd almost surely be cup champions!
-
Watching Pav is a treat, and I realized how much I missed it when he was injured recently.
-
Sigh, so frustrating to watch this.

There's no downside for anyone involved. Forsberg gets a shot at playing the game he loves. The Avs are in free fall so not like there's a risk of ruining any sort of chemistry, and they'll more than make up his salary in ticket sales. I've already had two of my Avs buddies call telling me they are buying tickets for the remainder of the Avs home games to watch him play (hopefully he stays healthy so they can actually watch him!).

I loved watching Cleary/Dats/Hulder. Any chance that line lasts once we are healthy? I guess once Modano gets back it wouldn't work, but I hope to see a bit more of it in the coming games.
-
Hudler needs a goal and an assist on that one.
-
I guess from a results oriented perspective he's been okay. Rangers would have about half the shots they do if he was smothering rebounds and not redirecting pucks to the opposing team. I'll take it though, I don't want to become a Howard basher, but truthfully, I'm very concerned going into the playoffs with him in net. I think we rag on the D around here a lot (and a good portion of it is deserved), but a good goalie that is always well positioned and controlling rebounds sure makes the D look a lot better.

Don't think Howie's rebound control could've been much worse thus far.
-
They'll make more in incremental ticket sales then the cost of the contract, which is only ~$330K.

Howard was slow to get across on the Nash play, looked like he was going into Flop mode, luckily Nash fanned. He wasn't fast enough to play the angle on the goal. And he's lucky on that GI call since it seemed like a fairly soft call. Could easily be 3-0. Gonna be an interesting postseason if he or the D don't get it together. At least we don't have the Avs goaltending problem, Anderson and Budaj have been beyond awful.

I miss the days when we could hold a 2 goal lead .
-
Its not like there is a ton of room for genius here, there is only so much you can do...you can make it a bigger contract, or multi-year, all entail risks given his age.
-
It happened to St. Louis twice... Do we really want Nabokov at a multi-year deal given his KHL numbers?
-
Could we sign him to a contract for X amount and then give him a huge bonus if the team doesn't make the playoffs? Essentially making it impossible for any team to claim him that has any chance of missing the playoffs. Wonder if this is somehow against the CBA. Edit: Not too big though or he'd intentionally suck

Games certainly are exciting these days, but its probably not good that we need 5+ goals a game to win!! -

Forgive me for being a tad nervous for the SO with MacDonald in goal. -
