Ovechkin is going to break Gretzky's goal record...kidding, but I can dream.

[GDT] 10/3 - Red Wings, 3 @ Blues, 5 (Stockholm)

He made nice saves, but his rebound control is horrific. -
Where's my panic button?
-
Its early, but Bert's looking good.
-
Nice signing, since he can play PK maybe this will give Babs the opportunity to reduce PK time for Zetts or Pavs.
-
get'r done kenny

They won't be better, but they'll be good. I see them as a third or fourth seed that will become a more threatening foe in the playoffs.

+1 How is Gainey a GM of an NHL team. What a horrific trade for the Canadiens.
-
We don't really have the cap room this year to take shots, even if its 500K.
-
Please don't sign Hossa, the mathematically certain depth destruction would be fatal.

First let me say that I've been a huge Wings fan since 1993 and was HIGHLY confident that we would win each time we've been in the Finals (even against the NJD, but that didn't turn out so well). However, after watching the first two games of this series and taking into account some other factors, I am extremely concerned that we will lose this series in 6 or 7 games despite being up 2-0. I'm usually not an ultra pessimistic person so I'm a bit concerned that my thinking may have some merit. Here are my thoughts: In the first two games, I felt that from an overall effort and quality of play perspective, the edge has to go to the Penguins. Detroit has been outshot, had way too many giveaways, and spent a significant amount of time chasing the puck rather than playing our puck possession style of game. The Wings are dumping it in more than usual as the neutral has been effectively clogged and Malkin and Crosby are getting some looks but we've had some luck with posts (and of course Ozzy has played well). But as this series transitions to Pittsburgh, the major concern I have is matchups. With the Pens getting the last change, I believe this gives them a significant edge, more so than against most other teams. Zetterberg has been huge on Crosby, and whenever the wrong lines have been out against the Pens, you can tell that the danger level of Malkin and Crosby is elevated significantly. The absence of Datsuyk only exasperates this problem, and I believe that he is likely gone for the series. So with this in mind, I truly believe the Pens will take the next two games bringing it back to Detroit tied 2-2 with all the momentum. Our guys will be more exhausted then theirs at this point given injuries and the fact that our top D-man and guys like Zetterberg are actually playing more minutes than their top guys (this will begin to affect us immensely as this series roles on). And if they can make it 2-2, they'll have the momentum, the energy, and they'll be able to smell the trophy at that point and I believe they'll have that extra bit of desperation to put them over the edge in a six or seven game series. I don't know guys, I'm not your average mindfly pessimist. I was highly confident the Wings would win in past SCF, but I have no confidence this time around and I hope I am dead wrong about them. Go wings....

I guess I'm not as crazy as some in this thread thought I was. I wasn't exactly correct in how it played out, but I do believe injuries and especially fatigue caught up to us in this series. What a disappointment though getting within 1 and then losing

IF and the Pens season is more "storybook" then ours is.

How can anyone blame the Refs for any of the Wings' losses?

I approve of the OP's message. -
Last Time a Team Won Game 7 on the Road.....

No matter who wins, it has been an excellent series between to excellent teams. And whoever wins, deserves it. Go wings! -
Pens will win, it just feels like destiny at this point. Are the wings more powerful than destiny

SCF GAME 6 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Penguins 2

40 minutes left to find out. To his credit, he's playing well defensively and throwing his weight around a bit. -

Hossa to be re-signed after postseason
greenrebellion replied to TheGoonSquad0208's topic in General
Well, he always has good game 4's. So here's to hoping he scores two on Thursday. What is wrong with this guy. Given his situation I would think he'd be playing his f'ing ass off. -
SCF GAME 3 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Penguins 4

Hopefully the refs don't tighten up the calls too much. Extra penalties probably favor the Pens, although the Wings PP isn't chopped liver either. I'm not a big fan of NHL conspiracy theories either, but I do fear that the penalty calls may tilt in the Pens favor this game. To win this game, I believe Hossa will have to elevate his play once again. He's been great on the backcheck in this series and I would love to see him bury a couple of goals on the Pens ice. Should be a good game no matter the outcome. Go WINGS!!!! -
You make some good points, hopefully I am just being a "Nervous Nellie" and my concerns are unjustified. I've been a believer every other year, just have this really bad feeling for some reason after watching the first two games of this one. Even when we lost game 1 of the finals to Carolina in 2002, there was no doubt in my mind we were going to be just fine in that one.

I like how Malts has looked and he can provide some PK time as well. Take out Leino, put in Drapes.
-
Put Stuart in there and compare to their second D, then you'll start to get the picture.

I wouldn't say its a lack of team pride. Even if we lose, I will be extremely proud of what these guys accomplished. Getting to the SCF after winning it all last year is absolutely incredible. I guess I was just trying to approach the series objectively, giving my thoughts on what I see so far. Again, I was highly confident we would win all 5 other SCF appearances, so this is an unusual stance for me.
