    First 6 All-Stars Named

Although not foolproof for d-baggery picks, perhaps a way to do this is you can vote AT a game during the season. If you are a season ticket hodler you could vote at every game. If you went once you vote once. No more internet 1,000 emails per person, robot voting crap. You still give the fans a chance to vote- but at the same time they have to put their money where their muth is to vote. This all said from somebody who goes to perhaps one game per year and lives 3.5 hours from the closest NHL city.

    Hockey Commercials /merged

Please somebody find the leave it to Beazer commercials. Guys shooting at Vansbiesbrook (sp?) and he stops them all then moves to the side and a puck hits a sheet of plexi glass covering the entire net. All to the tune of Leave it to Beaver!
  5. You must have read the story where the boy wanted a Rocket Richard Montreal Canadians Jersey but got a Maple leafs jersey instead from the Eatons Catologue? I have a video of the story on my facebook page. http://www.nfb.ca/film/sweater/

Eaves- That's one Super cool cat. Freaky eyes. Stuart -How in the heck did he get that much ice time- I don't remember seeing him except for that hit against him after he hit that one guy. Hudler- %$&^%&% *&$&Y#^$#& Used to love you- what the ^$%&$ happened to you you leetle sheet! Helm- He's sucha nicea boy. Dude lovin the work ethic. Chuck Norris is afraid of Darrin Helm! Osgood- You were my god- now I'm sorta pissed at you but don't know why- yet still think you should be our starter.
  7. I'm 100% in line with your thoughts- I grew up in Michigan but become a hockey FANATIC when I went away to college and had a kid from Yorkton Saskatewan as my room mate who got me HOOKED on hockey. Before that I was just a Redwings Fan. But your right to the rest of the country hockey is not even on the radar. I moved to Chicago from Adrian, MI in 1994 and was amaized that no news articles were on anything short of the 8th page on the Chicago sprots page. now of course that has changed and hockey is part of the culture in Chicago (I now live in Iowa though). It needs to get on peoples radars some how.
  8. MARKETING! I love hockey. I live 3 hours south of Minneapolis and I only know one other person in mytown who loves hockey and he is a displaced Canadian Dr. Most people who know that I love hockey look at me as sort of strange- it's like a gimmik to them. They "don't get it". "It's too hard to understand". I think the marketing needs to stop making hockey so mysterious and just make it simple- KISS. When you have teams with names of players that most local people woudl think are something from a terrorist watch list or KGB role call that can't help either. Getting a guy like Lidstrom and these other "non-American" names to show they are normal every day types couldn't hurt. Doing more with players on TV has to happen- Osgood on Tonight show, etc. The thing I personally LOVE about hockey and why I became a FANATIC is the oddity of it. The stories of the Stanley Cup being dropped kicked on the river and being found a year later, Sawchuck playing with broken arms, Yzerman on a hobbled knee, Lids with a speared testi, old time players jumping over the boards and fighting fans, etc. I LOVE THAT STUFF- I love the history of the game- but others might take it as the game being for die-hard whackos- it needs to be normalized for the regular guy- but then again for me I DON"T WANT A NORMAL VANILLA SPORT! That is why I no longer watch Basketball. But I do think for the everyman to really take off with understanding hockey and enjoying it they need to 1. Market it tons- names have to become everyday- not just Crosby/Ovechkin but Helm, Osgood, Lids, Dipiettro, hell throw a dart and grab some names and get then in the community. 2. Stop making it so "mysterious". It is NOT a difficult game- skilled yes, but easy to follow. Start using the olympics to teach people. 3. Start marketing at lower levels. Free hockey seasons for youths sponsored by local teams. 4. Pro players showing up at rinks for pick-up games. Could you imagine Osgood showing up to play goal at a local rink followed by a huge newspaper article. 5. Newspapers putting the freaking sport in the paper or somewhere other than a small section after thought on the last page near the classifieds. I'm 3 freaking hours from Minneapolis and my local paper doesn't even print the game summaries, standings, or ANYTHING- NOTHING! Local teams need to start getting newspapers to do stories about the games and follow the teams. 6. Free Tickets at High School levels to NHL/AHL, etc for good grdes, etc 7. Get sports teams from High Schools or colleges to come to games- bring them on the ice- build excitement that will generate into word of mouth at a grass roots level. 8. Local teams doing give aways with local news, TV, radio. 9. Cross market with Car dealerships, restaurants, etc.GET TICKETS TO PEOPLE FOR FREE- word of mouth- grass roots- build excitement. 10. Games on ESPN 11. Games on local networks!!!!!!!! Holy Crap could you imagine! Even if only once and a while. 12. Players involved in community- sort of like the Penguins Season ticket delivery by players. 13. Get your players camera time in other locations- human interest stories. 14. Get a story of human interest on Oprah, etc! Like the Dream a Wish kids that play with Wings! 15. Fire bettman. 16. Commercials that teach simple parts of the games on College football, NFL, MLB, etc 17. Players making appearances at first pitch time, etc.

Eaves day-to-day with "Upper Body Injury"

paraphrased-Quote from the game: So Murphy what's better the curly fires or the $1 hotdogs? Murphy: (Rather excitedly) Oh, Boy! Those curly fries sure are nice, but not much beats those dollar dogs! Anyone else hear him say something to that affect?

This is an interesting point and one that I certainly will be watching for more in upcomming games. It does seem like the Wings have missed a ton of one-timer attempts this season. Also seems like lots of teams just collapse around the net and keep us from scoring when we should be able to blow past them. This makes me want to really watch for one-timers in upcomming games.

Did You Get Your Curly Fries?

I'm pretty sure that when they read the announcement that Micky says: Stop in to any detroit area Arby's.... I'm just upset we don't have an Arby's within an hour and 15 minutes of where I live or I would try it in honor or Hatrick Eaves. I want to see if anyone in Honalulu can get them. And BTW did you know they have an ice rink there!!!!!

Was sitting in first row on glass behind Wings bench during game at Minnesota and a couple funny Babcock Death Stare items: 1. The fans in that area just kept saying stuff about it- all Wings fans. It was just so funny to see it up close. 2. Oh man did he give it to the ref after the Holmstrom penalty- and actually an earfull! 3. Kindl gave the puck away or made some sort of bad defensive play and Babs leaned over the bench as he skated back just staring him down- then when he got to the bench he leaned in further towards him and actually did the blind sign language for see towards Kindle- like "I'm Watching You!" 4. the girl sitting next to us wanted a pic with him looking at her- so she tapped on the glass and he actually turned around and gave her the deathstare while somebody took the pic. I really think he heard us talking about it because she kept saying things like "Oh man I want a Babcock pic of him staring." and he was right in front of her. 5. I really enjoyed how he treated the players- alot of pats on the back and encouragement before shifts especially. Really is a good coach for that stuff. Boy Lidstrom sure is silent on the bench- the whole team really was. 6. The cleary injury was bad- he collapsed as he was getting of the bench after the second shift. 7. Hudler looks like he is skating with a broken skate. WTF is he doing out there. And I always loved Hudler. 8. Minny fans are very classy and knowleadgeable- all very kind! Not one jackass all night unless you consider the guy taunting Bertuzzi all night- but he was just being funny (Viagara, bauld spot, etc). Spent yeas going to Blackhwaks games and their fans are rude crude Aholes. Minny fans my hats off to you. 9. I would have to guess close to 20% of the fans there were WIngs fans. Somebody said it is because of the 10 years in Minny with no NHL that many Minny people are Wings fans.

Was at the game (right by the glass) and that is what all the WIng fans kept saying- "Go Sparties!"

Cleary out 4 weeks w/fractured ankle

I was at the game sitting directly behind (on the glass) him when he came off the ice. He was showing the ankle to the trainer and then a couple minutes later Babcock looked over at the trainer and he (trainer) pointed to his own ankle and shook his head- Babcock did too. Then a few minutes later when he was coming off the ice he just collapsed getting into the bench. Another Wing fan and I looked at each other and cringed and both said "Oh, man that's not good at all!" He looked REALLY bad!

Drove in from Iowa (3.5 hours) to see game for my son's birthday. Sitting in seats on the glass right behind the Wings!!! LETS GO REDWINGS!
  16. I'm trying to take my sons to the WIngs game in Minneapolis this Sunday- PLEASE OSGOOD GET THE START! Trying to find a forum to see if I can snag tickets- haven't come across anything good using Google. Does anyone know if they have a letsgowild type version of a forum other than the one on the Wild site? Or if anyone has a good source in Minneapolis for tickets. Looking for (4) $100 and under tickets somewhere near the ice- prefer by the bench/glass. Will sacrifice if need be but hoping for the best. I am searching Craigslist daily.

Looking for Minnesota forum and or tickets for Wild Wings

Looking for Minnesota forum and or tickets for Wild Wings

Looking at section 116 which is behind the Wings bench- found a couple places listing them for $115-125 range with amount needed available. Curious about a couple things: 1. Is sitting behind the bench a bad seat to watch the game? 2. I notice that seats higher up like row 5 instead of 3 (the one right behind the bench) are actually more expensive. WHY? 3. Are the first ones right behind the bench handicap accessible and that is why I can find them? 4. Is it a tighter seat sitting behind the bench? 5. Other thoughts.

Looking for Minnesota forum and or tickets for Wild Wings

OK for those of you who go to lots of hockey games- or perhaps have been to Excel before- looking for some advice on where to get my seats. Not places that sell tix but rather where should I get the seat locations. Need four tickets- prefer being either right at Wings bench or in corner they shoot at twice- Section 119-121 (corner) How high up should I get them- any advice on seat location for good view of game and the Wings? As far as places to check tix I am watching: Cragslist Stubhub other suggestions?

Winter Classic Truck Gets Parking Ticket in NYC

I work in a town of 24,000 people that has parking laws of 1 hour downtown. the downtown is DEAD! I manage an apartment complex right in the heart of downtown and have to move my car every hour to avoid a $5 ticket. Every time I go out to move my car I'm amaized to see maybe 2-3 other cars on the street for 4 blocks- yet I still have to move my car or get the $5 ticket. The city is spending MILLIONS to revitalize the downtown- buying stores and tearing them down to create a park and new road going through the downtown. Half of the commercial spots are vacant and renting for $100-$400 a month. But if you have your car out there for over an hour the meter maid drives by in her little scooter and gives you a $5 ticket no matter how many open spots are in the area. I have to wonder how much it costs the city to employee two meter maids to write out a handfull of tickets everyday at $5 and why open parking or partial open parking couldn't be an option. Just another example of stupidity involving government and parking laws! $95 seems pretty cheap for New York. I remember getting $115 and $140 tickets in Chi-town. Then the cost of towing and impound if your were really unlucky. Not to mention the sinking feeling of thinking your car had been stolen.
  22. Last night one of the announcers made a statement to the affect that after a Wing's win the Jersey is placed with the logo facing into the locker room (back to wall) and when they lose the the players' names are facing the locker room (logo to wall). Has anyone heard this before and is there a tradition to this or something started recently. What is the story? Is it a like saying when we win the REDWINGS win but when we lose we have to look at ourselves as individuals? Or am i just reading more into it than I should? Any info??

Did You Get Your Curly Fries?

I wonder if I drove the hour and a half to the nearest Abry's in Ames, Iowa if that would work here? I was very disapointed that Micky didn't call Nick "Mr. Curly"!

    Post Your Jerseys

Two blank Starter White Redwings from late 90's that I paid $10 each at Value City near Chicago- at the time they had about 7 other teams (Flyers, Hawks, Florida, Boston, NY, Montreal)and I should have bought them too but didn't. Red Lidstrom U of M with the tie collar U of M practice Jersey Moskow Penguins Federov- really cool looking. Fighting Squirrels- My Mother-In-Law gave it to me (instead of an Oilers gretzky-grrrrrr) SkiDoo Super B-with a picture of a pissed off Bee ready to fight- one of my favorites- as my last name is Busby Adrian College Bulldogs- another favorite. And being a Father I now get to buy miniature Jerseys for my sons: Bruins Wings (2) Ducks Blackhawks Misc Minor Hockey Teams- Ames, Iowa; Niagara Falls Thunder U of M- matches mine (2) and some other strange ones that I can't describe OH!!!! Yeah- my firstever jersey was a thick whool one like Howe would have worn- I sent it to a dry cleaner and now my kid wears it with his Goalie Gear. That thing was awesome!

    Commentary question regarding backwards jersey

Is this just a Redwings tradition or do other teams do this as well?
