Ericsson to be paired by Lidstrom

My tin foil hat is picking up on this: Put Big E in with Lids to make Big E look better early in the season. The coaches will know if he really is doing well. If not he will have inflated numbers with Lids so then he becomes trade bait. Some GM says: "Wow- Detroit is willing to give up their top D prospect -the next Lidstrom- the guy being trained by Lidstrom- and all they want is our number three D man and a pick or two. Lets do it." Or not.

Hawks lose part of their CORE for a month

That dictionary comment is pretty funny stuff! I will be using it in the future. Can somebody please make a photoshop of a rotten apple core with a blackhawks body/head. That would make me giggle like a school girl today.

And his fists have been placed in Bert's locker.....

Have to say that I personally was never a "big fan" of organ donation and myself had always declined on my license. About 3 weeks ago my Father passed away and we were asked about 5 minutes later if we would be willing to have any of his organs donated. We (my mom and brother and me) decided that it would be well representative of my Father to do this and agreed to it as he was always known as a selfless man who was there fore other more than himself. We found out the next morning that they were able to use his corneas to allow two blind people to see and his skin to help burn patients. We think (but never got confirmation) that they were able to use his bone for cancer patients as well. It certainly is a great gift to give and it makes a family very proud of the departed loved one. Glad to hear Probert's family was able to experience this blessing and that others will as well from their generosity.

    Favorite Hockey Moments

So I have a new VERY odd one that is in my mind today. This morning my father had a massive heart attack during surgery and is in critical condition so I have been thinking of him alot through the day. About 2 or 3 seasons ago I went home to visit my family at Thanksgiving time and bought tickets for the Wings game for me my Dad and my two boys to watch the Wings and Blue Jackets. Just before the game my Father came down with a terrible case of the stomach flu and my wife went instead. Goal on Osgood from the blue line when my 10 year old son (Osgood is his favorite player) just put his head in his hands and shook them in embarressment while a Jackets fan sitting right behind him was heckling Osgood. A few minutes later the Wings scored and my son turned around and started heckling the jackets fan. I think the guy was saying Osgood you suck! and my son turned around and yelled at him "Hey buddy- YOU suck"! And then he started an Ozzy chant that actually kept going. Then after the game trying to explain what the poles in the party bus were for was exciting. (nobody else was on it- he just happened to pick us up) All in all it was just a strange night in so many ways.

Sunday April 7, 1996 Wings won 4-1 over Blackhawks- the following WEEK we went to see the BLUES (Gretzky was with them still)! Found it! Geesh now if I can just find out who scored in these games see if my rusty steel trap memory can actually work.

OK this is driving me nuts- I can't figure out which game was my first NHL game. I'm pretty sure I went at the END of a season in Chicago to see Detroit and then the next day on a Sunday (maybe Saturday) saw the Rangers play. Can't find a schedule that shows the two playing a game apart in the mid 90's in Chicago. I know I was there but man this is weird.

Sorry about the year- my first year at college was in 1994 when I moved from Adrian, Michigan to Northwest Indiana. I had been a wings fan since I was a teenager in the late 80's (Cousin told me about Probert and we watched games when ever we were at his house) but nobody to take me to or no way to get to ever see the Wings growing up. (I think I went to a total of like 6 Tigers games, 4 Pistons games NEVER a Lions game and about one game a year of Wolverine growing up so just wasn't ever fortunate enough to go to games. When I went to college my roomate was from Regina and Yorkton Canada and he introduced me to the Hockey News, and detailed hockey life to which I have never turned back. My 3rd year in college (1996) would have actually been my first game ever as I remember going with him and another Canuck friend. Hooked since but certainly no band wagon fan. I'm 34 and have been a Wing's fan since I was around 12 in 1988- but really started to learn about hockey from my Canadian friends when I turned 18. Just pointing out that just because I'm off on a year doesn't make me a bandwagon fan. I still remember them not being in the playoffs.

    Osgood

I just have to say that I love me some Osgood! I remember watching the fresh baby faced goalie in the early 90's and being really excited to have a good goalie instead of Chevilde, etc. (as teens we used to say the biggest oxymoron after government intelligence was - Save Chevildea). So for some of us to see what this "kid" did for the wings over the years makes him a GREAT goalie in our eyes. He has been one of my favorite wings behind probably only Yzerman for since the 2nd cup win- his first. I think history for him might have been kinder if he woud have stayed with the Wings and of course the pittsburgh cup loss and last season would have both turned out differently. But man, I love me some Osgood! Plus I have a 10 year old boy that plays Goalie and looks like a young Osgood.

    Talked with Marcell Dionne today

Second time I've been able to meet and speak with him at his store in Niagara Falls. Story: My wife pointed out to my 10 year old goalie son a pic and replica mask of Sawchuck. To which my son said "Mom he's the greatest goalie of all time". She said no he isn't and I thought he might go to fisticuffs with her right there and then. So my wife said to him, why don't you go ask Mr. Dionne who the greatest goalie of all time is and see what he says! My 10 year old son: "Mr. Dionne, who is the greatest goalie of all time?" Marcel Dione: Most people would say a very old time goalie named Terry Sawchuck, but he stopped playing the year before I played so I never faced him. But for my money hands down he was the greatest even though Brodiuer beat his record." Me: Who was the toughest goalie for you to play against? MD: I scored 731 goals, there weren't any tough ones for me- I beat them all!

    Talked with Marcell Dionne today

His daughter was working when I was there- very nice lady. Great store- lots of neat memorabilia-(Signed pick of him and Yzerman wearing Wings Jersey -NOT FOR SALE- with a great story where he traded jerseys with Yzerman). In addition to the St. Catherines book he also now has a biography available. Last time I was there he talked about the St. Catherine days in detail to us. Good to know about the speed trap- my in laws live right off of Montros and brother in law lives on Thorald Stone so we drive up and down in several times a day when there.

Most Talented Players of all time.

Gretzyks said something about him being able to see in front of him and at the same time having an ability to see what was happening behind him. I could only think that the shape of his head being like a guitar pick must have something to do with that!

    Mike Modano signs with Detroit

I have always creamed in my shorts thinking about having Modano on the Wings. A few years later than I would have liked so the mess will be easier to clean! Very excited. I think he could be somewhat like Brett Hull was as a mentor to Zett and Datts on the old goat and two kids line if he is ever paired with say Abbs/Healm or another youth- maybe even Hudler and Healm.

    Goal Celebration

WHAT THE HELL?? I think at the 1:30 mark, 2 guys run in, separately, and jiggle a player's "business". And people think Hudler's "cluck" is weird. He's got nothing on that. This goal celebration brought to you by UPS! Let us handle your package!

    2010 NHL Draft Thread

My father in law lives in Niagara Falls and goes to every Jr hockey game ever in the area. We were talking about this kid and he said he is a very nice kid, comes from a great family and was a great hard working player who is a perfect wings type player. Now of course Mario my FIL isn't exactly the Redwings director of scouting or anything but he does know hockey and does watch lots of players who come through the area- Lindros, Legace, etc. So just some very dirty 2 cents worth of opinion. BTW did the kid who Yzerman picked look absolutely pissed to be picked by the lightining or what- he had like these vacant pissed eyes.

With Yzerman in Tampa, would he trade with Detroit?

It won't be BARRY LONG before we run out of names of old redwings that people actually know. Then I'll have to jump in my Toyota PIRUS and drive out into the HICKS never to RACINE again. I'll be here till Thursday try the VAIL...(or VIAL)
