Horrible time to bump this thread. That must have been a hell of a spear to cause damage to steel.

I'll be honest, at real time speed, it looked like it was a hit to the head and I can see why the Oilers jumped in to Hall's defense. After seeing replays, it was definitely a clean hit. Good work by the refs to not call a penalty on Doughty.

It still baffles me that the NHL has a deal with NBC and is entirely okay with them not showing games until late January (not counting the WC).
-
Pretty sure the year Osgood got in, he wasn't voted as the starter. He was named to the team. Voting only pertains to starters.

Is this what you said before the World Junior final last year?

I was the one who originally brought up how it would be bad from a PR standpoint for this game to be cancelled. When I was questioned how, I admittedly didn't have a direct answer. I didn't want to make up some bulls*** reasons, I just think it wouldn't be good over all for the NHL for this game to be cancelled. Edit: spelling

http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/winterclassic11/news/story?id=5967147 Sounds like they have a solid backup plan in place and Dan Craig doesn't seem to worried about it.

dhgate.com Still haven't received a bad hockey jersey from them. Bought a pretty cheap USA world cup soccer jersey but hockey wise, they've been great. As far as the Reebok jerseys go, I'd take a CCM over Reebok anyday. I do like the fit of the Reebok a little more because I'm a smaller guy, but the quality of the CCMs seem so much better comparing my CCM to my buddy's non-chinese website Reebok.

Money spent advertising is down the drain as well, and I'm sure that's quite a bit. Honestly, I don't know how it could result in bad publicity, but the media has their ways of spinning things. The Classic getting cancelled is good for no one.

I won't be watching because I'll be at the Gator Bowl, but if I was at home I'd be flipping back and forth between this and bowl games. I don't really agree with the rooting for the rain. This is supposed to be the showcase for the NHL and while I hate the Pens, matching them up against the Caps is going to draw a lot of viewers. A lot of money down the drain and bad publicity for the NHL if the Classic is cancelled.

That was one of the worst opinionated blog entries I've ever read. He doesn't get in because he doesn't pass the eyeball test? I love how he leaves out any stat comparison to current hall of famers. If someone wants to argue that Ozzie shouldn't be in the Hall, that's fine. Just bring some substance to the table, not "he doesn't pass the eyeball test."

Because the media has always been the first to downplay Ozzie's accomplishments/play. They all talk about how he's shouldered only have a season game loads and low shot numbers while playing for a defensively stellar organization. They never talk about how he played 60+ games starting for the isles in 2002 while carrying them to the playoffs and losing a 7 games series to the Leafs. Or how he carried the Blues to the playoffs. Yet, somehow, the mention of New Jersey's heavily defensive minded system never comes into play when discussing Marty's statistics and accomplishments. Would I argue that Ozzie is better than Marty? Hell no, but I don't like how the media and fans are the first to bring up defense when Ozzie is talked about yet won't make mention of the system when it comes to Broduer. Anyways, congrats Ozzie!

Living in the south and not having center ice, the majority of the games (aside from watching the Wings on my computer) I watch are Thrashers games. This team is young and exciting and full of potential. I'd enjoy watching them more if their announcers didn't suck so hard. It's a shame for a team whose fans are more into their garbage basketball team and couldn't care less that they have a solid young hockey team.

I would guess the private jet was with them in NY, right? So a flight to San Antonio and back would be at the very minimum, 6 hours. Again, much easier to give this dude a one game tryout and hope that Barbs didn't get hurt, which was the case.

Someone remind me how the captains are picked. I was under the impression that captains were voted on by the players.

I think many of you are over-valuing Huds right now, including the guy who wants 6 foot bag of pucks.

Oh man, Pav is by far the best in that Red Wings video. As far as the Belfast Giants, that s*** is EPIC. I was laughing so hard.
-
That's just ridiculous. I like the occasional fight and physical play, but that display is a disgrace to hockey.

A couple canadian guys next to us had 2 flasks of whiskey each at the Winter Classic. They were passing them around and anytime a Hawks fan tried to take it they would start swearing at them. Awesome.

Just checked the schedule, not on NHL network since they are showing the Boston U at RPI game... Might be on ESPNU but who knows seeing as December 11 is the day they award the Heisman, so I'm sure it will be wall to wall coverage of that all day. Yipee...

Krejci lit it up for me tonight, very nice!

Interesting, when is Sturm due off IR?

Thank you. I don't get why people are trying to compare Modano's injury to guys who had a similar injury in the juniors or in their beer league. Modano has some of the best doctors and rehab physicians at his disposal, so the outcome will likely be much different.

Maybe laughed at how disgusting people can be? They should put together a team of all the former enforcers Pat Burns coached to find this thief/thieves.

Actually Dubinsky called him a dirty player in a post game interview. I don't think he's dirty, I think he plays the game hard and then does dumb stuff every now and then. As for more diving being called, I agree. Although, I'm pretty sure Helm was called for a dive in game 7 against the Yotes. I know there were two dives called in one of the Habs game 7's (I believe against the Caps).
