I didn't read the whole thread. Oh well. Coach Babcock's not a fool and really, the season will probably bring plenty of line juggling. Lets see what happens, eh?

Will You Be Surprised if the Wings dont make the Playoffs?
ltgator333 replied to RyanK's topic in General
This is an example of spoiled wings fans. For all the success our team has had, the occasional crap situations like you have described above are bound to happen once in a while. Just remember, there are fans out there that love a bottom seed and lose in the first round because it's better than what they've been getting. I'd cry burn but I assume your talking about the other big-cat named team in Detroit that defines awful. I'm surprised they're still worthy of making jokes about, but then again I wouldn't know for about the 6 or 7th season in a row with no regrets... I know, right??? -

QFT To address the original question- They've made the playoffs every season I've ever payed attention to them, and even longer than that so yes I would be surprised. Longest active post-season streak ring a bell to anyone? -
Argue for the sake of arguing. Well being Lebda and Meech are the least skilled d-men on the team that's an easy call to make. Lebda, when playing well, is serviceable but I'd like to see them both move(d) on, and we need a solid stay at home dman to take the last roster spot. (Andreas Lilja, I'm sorry. Please come back?) Barring that, it'd be nice to pick up a veteran for a cheap short term.

Totally figures that most on here feel it's goaltending that's the problem. A good % of you would cry about a brick wall between the pipes. After 2 games usually a lot of little things need to be improved! We'll talk again about this in mid/late October... (when we've got something to talk about!)

No it was still hangin out there like a dog's chew toy. Sulander looked really solid to me anyway, seemed like he was one of the differences in the game. The Hawks.. haha.. did look slow/lazy/arrogant and it showed in the final score. Their defense looked lost as usual, but the whole team looked like they didn't have a clue as to how to play on international ice. Think it's a coincidence that this upcoming Olympics will be played on NHL regulation ice size? None at all...

Great to have him back on the team whenever we play the 'yotes.

Dan Cleary is the man and I can't wait for the season to start. When he scores 25-30 goals this year I won't call it a comeback...
-
With that attitude he will never amount to *hit anywhere. And to make the 'easy call' I say he wont. c-ya.

http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=292512 Well there we go, he didn't cut it. I thought he had a decent chance, better than Allison making the Leafs' roster anyway. ***Moderators- fix my topic title plz and TY!

I think I finally totally got over that in '97!

I feel close to the same way myself, but I think the other thing to throw into the mix is that we're spoiled. I've been a wing fan in some capacity since the 94ish- I've never seen them not make the playoffs, I've not seen them really questioned rightfully so in years. Our team is a winning machine, period. Sooner or later the ride will be over (not this year), and I think we all should teach ourselves to be grateful to be wings fans before humility does. I'd love to see Nik raise another cup, I don't know if that will ever happen or not but I'm happy to some degree either way.

Couldn't agree more. On Cloutier, no he's not any better of a goalie than Howard and if Howard gets his $hit together he'll be better than Cloutier, and yes there's also better goalies that are UFA. That said, the Wings have a good enough team where Cloutier could be an ok backup if he played consistent from one game to the next, from what I saw he looked pretty decent out there. He'll be allright somewhere, just not in Detroit.

I like this thread. And if I'm proved wrong, crow aint bad soaked in teriyaki overnight and grilled. Kirk Maltby will not have more than 15pts by season's end, assuming he plays enough to get a shot at that many pts. I don't hate the guy but he shouldn't be on the team for about the third year in a row. Kris Draper will shut many of you up. Homstrom will be lucky to play 60 games, and will rightfully retire considering he's physically had it unfortunately. Osgood will have his best regular season in years. Better than 2 years ago. Jimmy Howard will be between .890%-.905% at the end of the regular season. Justin Abdelkader will be playing in the playoffs. Val won't get more than 60pts. Bertuzzi won't have 50. Eaves won't have more than 30. Leino better have 40. Stuart and whoever he's playing with will be the best defensive unit on the team. *Former players- Jiri Hudler will be a point-per-game player in the KHL for two years, come back to the NHL and be no better of a player in the NHL then what he was before and return to the KHL as soon as his NHL contract is up. Samuelsson's *successful* NHL career is a few seasons from over. Kopecky will be on Chicago's 3rd line at worst on any given night. Conklin will be the best ex-Wing goalie in St. Louis in many years. Think Manny Legacy at his best in St. Louis, and imagine he had it together.

couldn't help but notice Meech played more minutes than anyone- being showcased? nice to see Pronger on the losing side of another wings' game, and in a flyers jersey to boot!
-
well I wouldn't make a big deal of a tryout but I hope he doesn't hog Jimmy Howard's ice time. Hopefully something positive comes of this.
-
swap Homer for Val and you've got a line, jmo

I agree with the 50-60 games played numbers. This is going to be a sink or swim year for both of Detroit's goalies, and the best thing that could happen is they both play solid. Osgood would be a risk, I wouldn't pick him #1 though. Pick someone who's more likely to play 70+ games, there will be a few. Osgood would be a good #2 pick I'm thinking. Maybe I'll play fantasy this year it's been a few years... Where's everyone playing?

DirecTV and Fox Sports Network (FSN) are owned by the same corporate entity. Think that has something to do with it? We just got DirecTV (not THAT impressed either) this summer as well, so yes I am also screwed. Good call Buttman you little troll.

To everyone saying he doesn't know anyone in Russia- He doesn't know Federov at all? What about this guy? He's only the minister of sport or some crap.. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/comm...lav_Fetisov.jpg
