I don't think many people that follow the wings are suprised, I'm not. Lang has been awfully disappointing at least half the time. And he's getting up there, so it's not like he'll be getting any better. I agree with anyone saying this will give Detroit an opportunity to bring up a hungry young prospect, it's what I'd like to see. But I won't rule out filling the part with a FA aquisition, or a trade. I wouldn't be objectional toward that happening, but it's just gotta be the right guy.

OK I have posted. It's kinda sad that site admins have to do this kind of thing though.. what's even worse is how much money that spammers actually cost everyone with their BS. Clogging network bandwidth, and eating up network appliance resources are just the little things they do just by being there let alone anything else they do. to spammers.

Allthough there's much more to be said, that's the sum affect of the man's tenure right there. We are ALLOWED to take small jabs at him. It's our right. Don't like it? Don't read it. Get over it. EDIT- Oh yea, we WERE talking about something of substance so let's get back to it- About the larger goal thing.. I got in a discussion with someone about it today and they're a "no you gotta make the goalies' equipment smaller" kind of person- really I think even if they did that, they should still make the goals at least 4 inches wider. I wanna see some goals that didn't have to pinball off everything to actually get into the goal.

What the hell does everyone that dislikes him, which is a pretty damn big crowd have to spell it out for you every time they post??? There's nothing more negative about the guy that I could possibly say that's not been said a bazillion times before. It's as understood as the sun rising in the east. Hell for that matter really I shouldn't even need to say I don't like him anymore. Who the hell does, like him that is?

It's not JUST about this proposed tax, it's everything combined. This state is spiraling out of control, and has been for years. This is just one more thing that is complete BS.

I pretty much agree with most of what he has to say, there's a few things I didn't think of though. Increasing the net size to me is a no-brainer- I don't get why there's so many people opposed to it. Too many easy butterfly saves get made, a LARGE percentage of goals scored I saw in the playoffs were what I would consider garbage goals, where you nearly have to shove the goalie into the net to get the puck in. Moving the season back is a dang good idea I hadn't thought of, it ties into the ice quality idea as well. Poor ice quality helps teams like the Ducks who have little scoring talent and a lot of checking line forwards, which I think makes for a boring game. I didn't think of the composite stick issue, but I think he's got a point. Bring back the Sher-woods! Firing Gary Buttman is a given.... please do, thank you!

I do think that it is awfully funny that all these suits that sit in Lansing make great money. I think that the reality of the situation is they are disconnected from reality.. Granholm came to my shop after it was bought out and really I don't think she had the slightest clue what the place was really about. She just knew it was a couple more tax dollars. They are going overboard with the taxes, I know balanced budget yada yada but give some people a break yaknow?

I'm not sure if Dave Lewis is head coach material or not, but it's probably a scapegoat kinda thing- they have to blame their failure on someone. It's easy to single out a person and say "yeah you're the problem, c-ya". That said I hope he finds another job.

I'd just like to see them go because I really think the city of Nashville doesn't deserve them.. I feel badly for the fans they do have there but it's been said time and time again they get no support from businesses. They're a good hockey team, dirty or not dirty they're good, and I think they deserve some more recognition in their home town.

Well being we're out of goaltending prospects this was a had-to-do kinda thing. The only thing that pisses me off about this is it'll be another year before Detroit can start developing a franchise goalie... I've probably said it before and will again- the last goaltender Detroit developed from a draft pick is sitting on the bench watching Dom play.. it's been that long since they've actually done that. The goaltending revolving door is getting old. But it's all but done like dinner now, so in that case I do think that Dom was the best goaltender for the money out there. If they wanted a real-deal FA goalie like Giguere, they were going to have to pay several million dollars for him. And if they were wanting to keep it under a couple million, they were looking at guys that really aren't much better than Osgood, whose already signed, and cheap. So yeah, Dom ok whatever.

Here let me make this an actual post- First of all holy s***e Crymson that was a complete post-smack, cheers! And about Hasek... I wish he'd just make up his mind already and spill it... Detroit already has one lonely prospect goalie partly because he keeps coming back, so it's a thing where you HAVE to sign him if you can. The other options out there that aren't going to cost a pile of money are guys that (say what you want) aren't really any better than what we got sitting on the bench.

I don't think 5.5 is too much for Sundin. The Leafs are willing enough to pay him anyway, he's one of few bright spots on the team. I just really feel badly for him, he's a great player and he's wasting his last years of NHL life in that s***ty organization. If I heard that Kenny had signed him away from Toronto for 4.5-5 mill I'd be turning cartwheels right now... ..almost, but you get the point.

Serious Talks Of Expansion...And The Wings Moving East
ltgator333 replied to Sleight's topic in General
I think the league's size if anything is too large as it is, I'll give you that some areas are a lil heavily populated with NHL teams (New York for example) but these are areas that support hockey. I think unless the league is willing to have more teams that don't get a lot of support, this is a bad idea. I myself am never in favor of quantity over quality. As for the larger talent pool, I can see that, kinda. The RSL has quite a few North American players (not necessarily NHL caliber but) which is an indicator to me that there's plenty of players from this side of the world, and at the rate Euro players are coming over it's possible that the level of play wouldn't diminish too much, but I think the level of play is diminished enough as it is. There's plenty of NHL teams out there that have one real scoring line, and about 3 real-deal defensemen. It would be great to move out east, it would but I don't see it happening. With the Preds under new ownership and this guy allegedly wanting to move them to Ontario in a few years, if anything someone will be coming back to the west- Toronto maybe, the'd be in Detroit's division easy, Columbus and Chicago aren't too much of a trip from Toronto either. -
Did anyone see how badly Kolzig towered over Oz??? That's a big dude, for a goalie. I've always wondered what he'd look like behind a real team..... But anyway I guess I'm having a hard time being nostalgic right now... Those guys were great and some of them still are.
-
Quoted for truth... testify brother! I might be a bad sport for this but I got no congrats for the Ducks. After watching them play a few times, they looked like 3 checking lines and one scoring line. And the Michelin man in net. Now why did they win? Execution- if you're skills are limited but what you CAN do you can execute at the level they did, well we all see the result. Unfortunately it's about as exciting as watching a football team that runs the ball 99% of the time. Oh yeah and wins the championship..... This is a season to forget....
-
So does that mean that the teams HAVE to pull down their non-nhl.com hosted sites?
-
Agreed, the only reason Schneider > Markov is goal scoring ability. And that's the ONLY reason. Even if Chelios doesn't come back, Detroit is stocked with quality defensive prospects waiting for a chance. And yes, we need a goal scoring forward more than a dman.

I agree people are trashing Yashin a bit too much, he's not THAT bad. I just wouldn't want him on the wing's team because of his worst qualities that give him all the bad rap- he's lazy and greedy. But when he's on his game he can be dominating... really I think the only difference between Yashin and Sundin (a player I'd take in a heartbeat) is Sundin generally shows up for the game.. Yashin don't. Like I said earlier Holland don't want another Robert Lang, so forget about him.
-
http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=209988&hubname=nhl here's the TSN article for reference. As for speculation on signing Yashin- he's a on/off player, either brilliant or a bum. Basicly I think if Detroit signed him he'd be the new Robert Lang. I don't know if he'd be an upgrade or downgrade... prob the exact same when it came down to it.

Personally, I'm disgusted. Maybe I'm too much of a wings fan, but I think it's mostly I hate seeing a really good offensive team getting outscored by a team with one line of offensive upside. Anaheim's team just looked like 3 checking lines and then Selanne's line... I think that sucks. I predicted the Sens would win in 4 or 5, I guess now is the right time to order my crow, BBQ please.

Pronger at it again: elbow to McAmmond's head
ltgator333 replied to zetterbergfuturemvp's topic in General
I think the reffing in this whole series, and if not before this one has been mighty soft... But as for Pronger he had the suspension coming.. and the bottom line is of course the NHL is gonna have a look at something shady he had to do with, he has a history of being a goon and it comes with the territory. Wonder if he's gonna cry a river again? -
Well does this mean they'll be able to keep Markov and/or sign a sniper?
-
No. Other than that he's known to fight (his own team members, in practice at that) I really don't see the point in him. They've got plenty of guys to fill a 'checking line' role.
-
I really don't care about Paul Kariya rallies... What I'm speaking on, is that you can go to about any neighborhood in Detroit or surrounding area for that matter, and people at least know who the Red Wings are. At least heard of them. In Anaheim or Raleigh I'd bet that's not the case, not by a longshot.
-
Well the NHL needs to go cry in the mirror cause I really don't wanna hear it.. Buttman wanted parity well he got it. If Anaheim ends up winning the cup it'll be two years in a row that when the team has it's parade 90% of the city couldn't give a rats arse other than it's in the way.
