well I don't think I clarified myself well enough on that.. Dryden, Esposito and Hall definitely would get considered from where I'm sitting, but they all would (include Plante and Parent in that) because it was, like I said, a good generation of goalies. But what I meant by my opening statement is that it would be easy for someone to take those goalies of that time and put them to the same downfall as some of the screen doors that played in the 80's like hextall and Moog. And I didn't say Richter would make my list, I simply said it was nice to see him get some props from someone.

well for the sake of argument derailment, whether they should or not is not the real question.. they couldn't trade him for anything of value right now anyway. he's always hurt, nobody wants to gamble on that.

personally I think it's a popularity contest.. there's a lot of goalies who are good but don't belong in a top 25 list of ALL goalies EVER. Really I think with any athlete you have to break it down into time period to a certain extend, like for example Gump Worsley wouldn't cut it in today's NHL as a starting goalie, period. He probably doesn't fit into a top 25 list of all-time goalies. Maybe pre-1960, but not all-time. Bill Ranford, Hextall, Vanbeisbrook, Moog, were all decent goalies of they're time but... they end up on goal highlights, not save highlights. Vernon, Osgood are on there basicly because they were Wings. Us wings fans are a forced to be reckoned with, don't stir us up. It's the truth though. Kiprusoff and Luongo are great right now, who wouldn't take them. But what have they proved? They've not stood the test of time. There's even a few names on there I don't immediately recognize... what the hell, who is that guy? Richter and Fuhr are a couple guys that get no respect and it's nice to see them up there. Cujo I'm not sure whether he belongs there or not but, he also gets no respect and it's nice to see him get some. Hall, Dryden, Parent, Esposito, Plante.. I could make the same argument against them that I could Ranford and company, but these guys were a good generation of goalie, that balied teams out. A few of them even beat the big red monster in a game or two. Speaking of the big red monster, where's Tretiak? You're gonna tell me Ron Hextall and Andy Moog are better goalies than Tretiak?

Should the Wings target UFA-to-be Giguere?
ltgator333 replied to zetterbergfuturemvp's topic in General
I say (like it matters a LOT, because I own..) if Dom wants to come back pick him up if not *meh* bring up Jimmy and let him play with Oz.. really the team is so good I don't think we really need a stellar regular season goalie to make the playoffs, and really as we've seen time and time again being an upper seed in the regular season doesn't mean doo-doo. You never know what the playoffs bring out in a player, and really the playoffs generally bring the good out in osgood.. statistically anyway... Developing young players, while continuing a winning tradition is what Holland needs to focus on. FA signings are all well and good, in moderation. Bringing in a FA (other than good OLD Dom) is just gonna keep the wings from doing that. You know the last young goaltender Detroit developed into a starter from a draft pick? Yeah, Osgood. It's really been THAT long. -
Who is your favorite all time player, AND your favorite active player?

Larionov all time wing Franzen or Cleary current Sundin or Jagr non-wing -
Not sure exactly EVERYTHING I'd do so far, but a few thoughts- -Send Lang packing- he's 215 lbs of slow that isn't all that tough, and botches as many or more plays than he makes. -If they can get Bert back for relatively cheap, and healthy, get him. Nice replacement for Lang. -Play Hudler or trade him. -Say goodbye to Kyle Calder, and get someone who can score goals-we've already got Draper, Franzen, Cleary, Kopecky, and unfortunately Maltby that are all certain degrees of a physical 'checking line' presence. -If they can get a goal scorer, do it. -They have quite a bit of potentially good defensive talent waiting for a chance, so re-signing Chelios is a thing that isn't necessary, basicly I'd think it's up to him. -Schnieder's only value that would make me want to keep him is that he scores goals. -You also have to wonder if you're willing to wait for overly reckless Kronwall to heal up from his constant injuries, and whether or not Brett Lebda really is the real deal d-man at his size. -Jiri Fisher needs to swap cardiovascular systems with someone, and come back. -Hasek... they could've won the series against calgary without him, and lost the series to anaheim without him. Chris Osgood? I dunno about him, he's iffy but he's not going anywhere soon and you're not going to develop a young goalie with Hasek still hanging around.

After your team is eliminated...who do you root for?
ltgator333 replied to Yzermaynard's topic in General
The team that's going to win- Ottawa. -
I think he dumped the reputation for the time being.
-
Robert "former Red Wing" Lang I can live with that one.
-
quoted for obvious truth... what do you want, f*ckin blood?
-
I'm a firm believer that Anaheim cannot hang with Ottawa's speed and execution. I realize if Ottawa loses the series that I'll have my crow deep fried, thank you, but I think Ottawa will hand the ducks their arse. 5 games.
-
Hudler isn't hurt and prob has something to prove.. oh yeah he's a pint sized sniper.
-
What Lilja did after the game took balls, he realized he had a brainfart and took responsibility for it. But really you can't blame the guy because if he hadn't scored the only goal they got all night there wouldn't have been an overtime anyway. If anyone I blame all the other players on the team that couldn't get a puck in the net. All they really needed was one more goal and it would've been game over time, not overtime.
-
One of two scenarios are going to play out- either the Wings come out flat and get their collective arse and golf equipment handed to them, or they blow Anaheim out and go back to Detroit to end the series.
-
Put your money where you're mouth is Brett and get out you're skates... I think watching that game sunday really reminded me how much this team misses having a sniper like Brett Hull was. They really don't have a pure goal scorer anymore. They could've used one Sunday.

I've been scratching my head lately as to who will sit out when they get everyone healthy myself, unfortunately for Hudler I think he'll be one of the players considered for a scratch but he's sure making that a tough decision here lately. I really don't think Babcock dislikes him though, I think he'd like to see him improve during the offseason. It's kind of an indicator to me anyway what kind of shape he was in at the season's start that his skating and play has elevated so much lately- he might be just getting his legs under him so to speak. That said he and Filppula are the next generation of top guys for Detroit, given they work hard and don't be a Jason Williams. Anyone noticed how their powerplay is better without JWillie, btw?
-
Well good for them, whatever. But it's a waste of perfectly good catfish.
-
Us Wing's fans take pride in our goaltending. If I'm not mistaken, Hasek has been mildly booed at the Joe in '02.
-
Yeah ask Larry Murphy about this phenomenon. Probably part of the reason he still hangs around Detroit is because you learn what heaven is after you've been through hell....
-
Heal up, and heal up right!! Oh, and it's time for some other players to step it up.

One of Mickey Redmond's best quote's ever!
ltgator333 replied to LORD STANLEY OF PRESTON's topic in General
Yeah Mickey's cool- he's old time hockey and he's been there and done it so he knows what he's talkin about. And you can't beat the Mickey Redmonisms. As for his comparison between his own experience and people losing their minds over the Sens/Buffalo thing, the obvious difference is Mick's day was before a bunch of whiners that for the most part aren't knowledgealble and/or don't care about hockey started griping about fighting in hockey. I beleive in the instigator penalty to the extent of eliminating boxers that can skate (guys that can't play hockey worth s*** that are there because they'll beat the daylights out of 95% or more of actual hockey players), but if guys wanna fight let them fight. If a lot of them wanna fight, let a lot of them fight. It's better than taking it home with you, or back into the locker room that's for sure. -
Well good job Kenny in the last couple days, getting rid of Williams picking up Calder and not giving up too much for Bert. Yeah, I think he's what the team needs (if healthy) and I like what they got in a player, but not in a person.

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal
ltgator333 replied to WingsFANstuckintheSOUTH's topic in General
right on! I looked at his stats last night and I wasn't super impressed but he has been playing for a crap-tastic team. And, we won't have to look at J-Willy playing the point on the PP anymore so sounds like a decent deal to me. -
I think Modin got a generous deal to say the least. The guy has sucked eggs in Columbus.
-
Well yeah dude, but think of how much better he would be if he didn't get pushed off the puck when in his defensive zone. There's only so much skating away you can do, and given his decent speed for a defenseman putting on 15 lbs isn't gonna make him slow by any means.
