I dunno.... Like I already said. .... if the situation were reversed regarding Saturday's game, I would've said to you something to the effect of, "Congrats dude, you deserved the win, sure we're injured but injuries are part of the game and all teams face them, again congrats, you were the better team tonight." The true test of a persons character is not taken when times are good, it is best taken when times are tough.

Then I retract my anointing of this forum as the "classiest in the NHL". But I was half way there anyway. The numerous comments that suggest that the Canucks are not a class organization already had me second-guessing that compliment I made. But again, I won't let a poor showing from a few people sway me that easily. It is true though, losing on a regular basis is a better indicator of a fanbase and their "patience". I know. Remember? Take Lidstrom away from the Wings and see what happens..... oh sorry. Take Gaborik away from the Wild. Take Iginla away from the Flames. Hell, take away franchise players all over the league and you get a weaker team. Luongo's a Canuck. Deal with it. Besides, it IS a team game, and when Luongo starts scoring on the opposing team on a regular basis, I might buy that argument. In case you haven't noticed, he is NEVER on the ice alone. How the hell would I know. I heard some crap about Cory Schneider and Luc Bourdon for Brad Richards. I haven't heard any speculation about Hossa. I edited my previous post with this. Care to comment? "And no one has addressed my contention that the Wings starting stinking up the joint before they were really hit by the injury bug. Is this true or not?"

Are you saying that fans of other teams are not welcome here?

The only difference I see is the difference in opinion we have, mainly from Kronwall on down. But I congratulate you on the fact that you have an opinion. I have one too, but to argue back and forth based on opinion, to me, is like banging me head against a wall. You can keep banging and whining, "Oh we're injured, WE ARE INJURED!". Suck it up princess because it happens to everyone. Truly good teams find a way to win, even when they're injured, and this forum is littered with posts about the fact that past a few top key players, the Wings are very thin. Now you're finding out just how thin you are. Also, if I were compiling such a detailed list as you did, I'd be sure to get it right. You forgot Bieksa. He was injured longer than anyone this year. And no one has addressed my contention that the Wings starting stinking up the joint before they were really hit by the injury bug. Is this true or not? You know, if the situation were reversed regarding Saturday's game, I would've said to you something to the effect of, "Congrats dude, you deserved the win, sure we're injured but injuries are part of the game and all teams face them, again congrats, you were the better team tonight." OFFICIAL: Sundin Staying Put

I admire that. There's a lot to be said for a player who sticks with his team his entire career instead of going somewhere else to try and win the Stanley Cup. As a defensive mechanism, the people in Boston are probably laughing at Sundin right now.

Brilliant! I'll buy that! And Osgood has underachieved this year! Exactly. A definitive win over the Wings would have meant a 6 goal difference in the score. As it stands, we "struggled" and only beat you by 3. ROFLMAO! (It's been years since I've said "ROFLMAO", but if ever there was a time, now is it)

At one point we had Mitchell, Bieksa, Ohlund and Salo all out and still found a way to win. None of them may be the calibre of Lidstrom, but that's beyond ridiculous. Don't complain to a Canucks fan about injuries. We know all about it. Complain about the refs last night instead. Well, maybe that's not a good idea.

I read your other posts, and 2 probert4's too. I know it's human nature to put down your opponent after they've just handed you your ass, make excuses, etc., whatever, but you appear to be suggesting that the game last night meant something slightly less than a cross between a team scrimmage and a pre-season exhibition game. It didn't. It's a regular season game and we got the 2 points. I mean what the f*** -- you want us to act all dejected that we beat the Wings? Besides, Vancouver has proven that a team can actually be dangerous and win games when decimated by injuries, so why would we give the Wings a pass in any way at all? It seems to me you're dropping your buttered toast on the floor a lot lately, (9 out of every 10 times?) and you don't like the fact that it's landing butter-side down. Also, how long have the Wings been stinking up the NHL now, and how long have they been decimated by injuries? Do those 2 events coincide? I'm not too sure about that. Most of you guys know I think this is a class forum and the best in the NHL, but boy you really find out the measure of a teams fans when they start losing.

What do you expect. Downey speared a Canuck during the pre-game warm-up.

First off, I'm a Canucks fan. I don't know how this game is going to go tonight. Until this year, Detroit didn't really worry me that much. We seemed to beat you a little more often than you beat us. That changed this year with the incredible start guys you had..... but now Detroit is hurt and slumping, while Vancouver seems to have broken their slump and injured players are starting to return and Luongo's back on track. But for some reason, Detroit still concerns me a great deal in regards to tonights game. Vancouver notes Naslund has a strained groin and is questionable for tonights game. Mattias Ohlund has the flu and is also questionable. Kevin Bieksa returned after 4 months and looked strong against Nashville. Alexandler Edler has been an incredible surprise. With Bieksa's return and Edlers steady play, that gives Vancouver 4 defencemen who can score on a regular basis (Ohlund, Salo, Bieksa, Edler). Vancouver finally appears to have a strong farm system. 22 year-old Mason Raymond and 24 year-old Ryan Shannon (along with Edler) have all been offensive threats of late. On thursday in the Canucks 3-2 win over the Preds, Raymond got a goal and an assist and the winner in the shootout. Luongo appears to have his mind off his pregnant wife (if that's what it was) and is back on his game. Marcus Naslund has been hot of late. Usually that indicates a cooling off period is about to follow, but so far so good. Brendan Morrison is set to return in about 3 weeks following his wrist surgery.

    Vancouver and Edmonton

As a Canucks fan, I loved what I saw in that game. It almost made up for 6 weeks of hard times due to injuries, incredibly bad luck, (pucks flying 50 feet up in the air and going in) and Luongo's head not being entirely in the game. Back in November the Canucks embarrassed themselves in a game against Nashville, and for about 2 months after that they were nearly bulletproof. That game against Edmonton could do the same thing for the Canucks. I couldn't believe that game. That was 2 teams playing very intense hockey. And yes winglogo19, Kesler IS pretty damn tough. He'll take on anyone and always does well for himself. He's also future captain material. And I don't come here all that often, but you guys always impress me. One of the classiest forums in the NHL.

Yes he was. Look at the photos on around page 33. Parts of both Holstroms skates are in the crease, he's in contact with Giguere and the puck hasn't passed either of them yet.

    It's Time For Change

No. He's in the second year of a 4 year contract. 2 more after this.

You're right. The ref screwed up. The goal should have been disallowed AND Holmstrom should have got a penalty. Look, as I said above, hockey is very subjective in its application of the rules. We've seen it before where goals are disallowed but no penalty is called in cases like this. As a matter of fact, I think that's the norm. You're already taking a goal away from a team, so if the infraction is marginal (no one gets totally bowled over) then they usually don't assess a penalty to further rub their face in the crap.

Oh well that was a moron talking. Pay no attention to him. Morons are easily identifiable by their distinctive trait of substituting name-calling for a valid argument.

If (i) a goalkeeper initiates contact with an offensive player who is in the goal crease; and (ii) such contact is (a) initiated by the goalkeeper in order to establish position in his goal crease; and (b) results in an impairment of the goalkeeper's ability to defend his goal, and a goal is scored, the goal will be disallowed. http://www.nhl.com/rules/rule78.html

Jocu, I think this is one of those calls that you hate if you're a Wings fan and love if you're a Duck. If the situation were reversed it would be the Wings fans loving it. It's a judgement call. Tomorrow it might not be called. It may suck for those who feel their team was wronged, but the precedent is in the rules. Hockey is full of judgement calls. It's just part of the game. Win some lose some.

So what. Again, you cannot park yourself in the crease and deny the goalie his ability to move within the crease. And besides, that's very much a Detroit view. Fact is, Giggy was moving up and Homer was moving back. Bottom line -- Homer was in Giggy's house.

Giguere has the right to the crease. Holmstrom entered it, the 2 of them made contact and the goal was scored. You cannot park yourself in the crease and deny the goalie his ability to move within it.

I hate to break this to you, but other teams also put time into finding prospects. Snooze you lose. Detroit snoozed, Vancouver didn't.

Well the Canucks are expecting a tough game, but not really a physically tough Wings team. That's why they sent Mike Brown and Rick Rypien down to Manitoba in favour of speedster Mason Raymond. This has the makings of a very good game. Both teams have lost 3 of their last 4 and will want to get back on track in a big way. Could be a classic. On the injury side, Canucks are without Morrison, Ohlund and Bieksa, and if Salo and Mitchell even play, they're playing injured. That's potentially the top big 4 of the Canucks D totally out of the game.
