sportsnetmurph Dan Murphy Patrick Marleau not upset at Bieksa. "No one forced me to drop my gloves." Class act. Eager and Clowe should take note.

We love the guy, but he's been fighting this injury all season and the team has evolved around him to the point where his absence isn't missed all that much. You've got to give Mike Gillis and his late-season acquisitions a lot of credit for that. If Sammy was healthy he would definitely be a great asset, but it's been so long since he's been healthy and we've done so well basically without him that he's kind of become the forgotten man. One man's loss is another man's gain, and the guys stepping in have taken full advantage of that.

Have you guys caught on to all the talk about the events surrounding the Bieksa goal on Wednesday? If not, here's what happened. Sharks shot the puck in to the Canucks zone as the Canucks were making a line change; forwards only. Hamhuis had the puck in the Canucks zone and there wasn't much of a forecheck from the Sharks. Hamhuis had time to stall while the Canucks line change was being completed. But Higgins was on the bench and did not replace the man who came off the ice. This left the Canucks with four skaters to the Sharks five. And it's not like Higgins screwed up. He did it on purpose. He watched the play and Hamhuis with the puck and sat on the boards at the Canucks bench with his feet hanging over on the ice side. Then Hamhuis broke right (Higgins was stage left), and Hamhuis drew attention from the Sharks. Then Higgins while still sitting on the boards waved his stick at Hamhuis and jumped on to the ice with no one even close to him. Hamhuis passed Higgins the puck and he was then all alone with the puck. He then doubleed back to the Canucks blueline, attracting the attention of half the Sharks team who were totally confused. As this is happening Bieksa breaks through centre ice and Hamhuis hits Bieksa with a breakaway pass. I think I got it right -- definitely the relevant parts. Seems to me Erhoff was involved too but I can't find a video at the moment. It was unbelievable. It's not often you see what I think was a totally original play like that. Essentially, Higgins played possum until the opportune time. edit: found some video of it. If you can access Sportsnet it starts at about the 1:25 mark. Doesn't show it as well as I've seen it, but you'll get the idea. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2011/05/19/sharks_canucks_gm2/

That's some good and knowledgeable advice Shoreline. I was in a serious car accident that's left me in pain to this day. Opiates can be a true double-edged sword in that yes they help and do good, but there's an obvious danger there, particularly when your injuries are severe enough that they affect your quality of life to the point where you can start to use them to ease not only the physical pain, but also the emotional pain. Alcohol can accentuate the effect of the drugs but that is as you said, a very dangerous mix. The brief high that drugs can give you is mitigated by how totally crappy you feel when you don't take them and that's the dangerous part; you start to take them just to feel normal. And it's not about weakness of character. It's about circumstances. Boogie probably took too much of both in an effort to ease not the physical pain but the emotional pain. It's a very easy trap to fall into given the right set of circumstances.

I agree. And I don't see how they're making a big deal of it. Sounds to me like she wasn't even barred from the arena in the future or anything.

Woman flashes breasts during Canucks-Sharks telecast The Vancouver Canucks have issued a statement after a woman flashed her breasts during Wednesday night’s game against San Jose. “I can confirm that the female in question was evicted from the game without incident,” Jen Rollins, co-ordinator of media relations for Canucks Sports & Entertainment, wrote in an email to the Star. “We are following up with her today to help ensure incidents of this nature don’t happen again. “There will be no further comment at this time regarding the specifics of her eviction.” The flashing occurred in the third period when, with 2:33 left, San Jose Shark Ben Eager skated to the penalty box for his fourth penalty of the night. Then a woman wearing a Henrik Sedin jersey pressed herself against the glass and lifted up her top. She pressed her breasts against the glass of the penalty box and wriggled them around for six seconds before putting her top back down. The Canucks won 7-3 to take a 2-0 series lead in the Western Conference final. NHL brass, including NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, were in attendance at the game. CBC broadcast everything — breasts and all — on its Hockey Night in Canada telecast, which airs the game live, without a delay. Game 2 in its entirety — including the uncensored flashing — remained posted on the CBC Sports website until nearly 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon when it was taken down. I give Marleau full props for effort, at least for that one incident. He was also the only classy Shark I heard during the post-game interviews. All the rest were butt-hurt douches.

I firmly believe in the old credo that you aren't in real trouble until you lose at home. However, the Sharks appear to have no answer for the Canucks speed other than to totally lose their cool. I have to wonder how Wings fans feel about this. It's possible the wrong team won in the second round. Cool photo from last night. I have to wonder if Marleau is thinking: "I didn't realize that was Bieksa when I dropped the gloves."

Poll on Vancouver Team 1040 asks -- who is the bigger donkey. A. The guy who beat himself up and faked an assault to get on Oprah. B. Ben Eager. Eager winning at 77 percent.

Synchronicity. I didn't know what you were talking about so I googled "Jiri Hudler hookers" and the top result brought me right back here. http://www.google.ca/#hl=en&biw=1024&bih=513&q=jiri+hudler+hookers&oq=jiri+hudler+hookers&aq=f&aqi=&aql=f&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=1110l4765l0l8l8l0l4l0l0l143l517l0.4&fp=443b43567779f9e7

Same here. They said on the Sportsnet post-game that Marleau didn't show up, but for that one brief moment he certainly did. He took on the Canucks best tough guy who was playing (Glass out, Rypien not back yet). And Bieksa can throw 'em. He doesn't fight often and is far too skilled to be considered an enforcer but the guy will throw down with anyone. Props to Marleau for that, as dumb as I think it was. I think they'll be fine. I think we could see another game just like this one if the Sharks get down by a goal in the next game. They have no cash and no credit in the brains department.

    (1) Vancouver Canucks vs. (2) San Jose Sharks

The post-game comments form the Sharks are unbelievable. Eager calling Bieksa a coward. I guess he didn't see Marleau drop the gloves first. And I guess Eager forgot how he fought Bieksa to a draw and ran from Rick Rypien for two years until Rypien had a bad wrist. All sorts of bile being spewed. Marleau is about the only Shark who showed any class. Talk about sore classless losers.

Same here Shoreline. Apparently the reason the Canucks/Sharks have two days off between games is that Kid Rock is in Rogers Arena tonight and has been booked for a long time. I know he's a Michigan native and sorry, but screw Kid Rock.

Not on Sportsnet. But I figured this might be getting some attention so I just Googled "Laraque + Boogaard" for news. Came up with this. Derek Boogaard found dead

Just heard a portion of a phone interview with Georges Laraque on Sportsnet. He said: "not many people know, but Boogaard was cleared to play before the end of the season but the team told him to take the rest of the year off." He also said: "the coach was not a big fan of his and he was depressed about that." I'm not speculating. I'm simply repeating what I heard from a reputable source (Sportsnet).

You guys will probably think this is a Homerish article but I've noticed the same things as the writer has all year long. http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/news?slug=capress-hkn_canucks_playoffs-6868803 As an example, last night the Canucks were called for icing late in the game and their centre got tossed (can't remember who it was). It was a critical point in the game. Danny Sedin had to take the draw and he never takes draws. He sucks at them. At the same time they showed a shot of the bench with Henrik tugging on the shoulder of his own sweater and saying something to Coach Vig -- then Vig cracks up laughing. Today in a media conference Coach Vig was asked about it and he said that Henrik said it was "too bad they'd already used their time-out because him and Danny chould change sweaters for the draw." Then, Danny goes on to win the draw. That's hanging pretty loose at a critical point in the game.
