people only say it because of our nearly 15 years of pretty dominant hockey. we haven't had a losing season since 1990 and have only missed the post season twice since 83/84. Also, we have one of the most widespread and devout fanbases in all of sports. by far the highest attendance for games across the nation are at wings games. so in these regards: yes, we are the yankees of hockey (i think i just threw up in my mouth a little while i typed that). however, any idiot that says its because they buy their talent would lose a battle of wits with a doorknob. i take it as a compliment when someone says it due to my first few reasons... sidenote: last wings game i attended against LA a kings fan walks up to me and says "i really hate it when you guys come to town.... because i haven't been able to say that your team sucks in twenty years..." love it.

i'm hoping for dallas in six. wear them out a bit before round 2. they need to not let the ducks back in it. its one game they could win game 2 and its a five game series. if giggy gets hot (and he sucked in game one, LBH) he could be dangerous. and we all know turco is a heaping pile of s*** when the playoffs roll around. another reason i'd like to see dallas in round 2. but its one game, could go either way, and i doubt they play that poorly for the rest of the season...

and the genious behind the bench for the preds says about the matchup with the wings: "I think the timing is real perfect for us." no neck and no speaka da english. LETS GO RED WINGS!!!! 3 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
didn't see much talk about it but i'm just wondering... is lilja over lebda a good call? personally i like lebdas speed and passing ability out of the zone more than i favor liljas size. that being said lilja was pretty much a beast in the post season last year. reasons for lilja over lebda other than experience? babcock knows far more than i so i do not doubt its the right call (and its been #3 over #22 all year, i just now am noticing it i guess that stuart is back). peace

rofl at edicius' avi. HA! no prediction for me either. smart hockey played with 100% passion and urgency will win this one. and WHEN they do, i will be getting F@CKED up at my local thursday night bar hangout. so there. its a done deal. heres hoping for a good win and no injuries. hopefully the young guns step up and demonstrate their abilities. and i have a good feeling about DOM tonight. sometimes i doubt him, but i have 100% confidence he will not pull the flopping snow angel of defeat and will be solid. LETS GO RED WINGS  ...... oh and i usually sport a bit of fuzz on the face, but i will halt all trimming at ONCE! maybe pics to come.... -
jesus H. christ. (excuse my blasphemy) i was watching the game and saw the tail end of the play he got hurt on and remember thinking "THATS BULLs***. THATS A PENALTY OPEN YOUR EYES REF" and then kopay skating off gingerly in pain. however, i do not recall how he got hit or fell or whatever, or even who the other player involved was, just that i was pissed and he looked hurt. this really sucks. we needed his size up front, even if he doesn't put up big numbers.

i'm halfway decent with PS, and this is a fine job here. def took a bit of time. looks great and funny to boot! great work. i'll try and get something brewing in the think tank and throw it up...

Tom Glavine wants his name on a Stanley Cup
sergei_is_still_a_wing replied to wingsfan75's topic in General
i see your point. but the stats and stanley cups do not lie. plus i think bobby orr is second. its all debatable. anywho, wherever the great one appears on your list, his name should be spelled correctly. -

cool article. and not to be an ass, but are we STILL spelling GRETZKY wrong? come on folks. greatest player of all time and we can't get his name right? if you can spell DATSYUK every time we write it on the boards, we should throw the same courtesy to wayne. love him or hate him... -
3/30 GDT: Red Wings 1, Predators 0 (OT)

MULE is a beast. not much scoring but still a fun game to watch. dom showed a lot on that breakaway save on OT. huge balls. i have to admit i thought "game over" when that pass squeaked by lids and hit tape. good win fellas. -

Canucks' postseason hopes have taken a hit.

I am a spry 21 years of age. the thought of having children is the farthest thing from my mind right now. that being said, i'd gladly, GLADLY take the blame for my team missing the playoffs if i had to choose between that and seeing my son/daughter being born. no brainer. Most parents would tell you they would give their life without a second thought in order to save their children and i feel no different. if you honestly think that hockey comes before your childs birth, i seriously hope you never have children. i know thats harsh, but you should be able to say that you would do ANYTHING for them. if you can't say that, wait until you can. its the main reason kids grow up in broken homes and result to illegal activities and drop out of school. children first. like my dad always said, "you have to take several tests to drive a car, but any idiot can have a kid." -

after watching last nights avs nucks game in its entirety, roberto scares me a little less. the avs cycled, applied pressure, and backed off when need be. ALL things the wings are more than capable of doing night in and night out. now this is not to say if we played hard we'll score 5 and chase roberto every game. no one is that naive. but i also think that in a seven game series the nucks can be tamed rather easily. also, does anyone agree that having the boys in red and white KNOW that they are going to face one of, if not THE, best goalie in hockey may light a fire under their asses? i know when i have a big game coming up against a tough opponent, i get fired up far more than if i think its a team that is easily beaten. just saying it might give the guys a little something extra to play for, going up against the creme de la creme. peace. -
"antibiotics have no effect on the flu. It's a virus. Antibiotics help fight off bacteria. That's very different." TRUE. just had the REAL FLU 3 weeks ago and the doc said, nothing we can do. take 400 advil a day and stay in bed. I'm assuming mac is on anti-biotics and just has something with flu-like symptoms. as for "NHLNetwork Pulling the game friday" i think NFM25 meant that center ice had "pulled it" to their network. not hat they had decided not to show the game. but tis true that if you have center ice but not NHLN you're SOL. (note to so-cal residents: NHL network is now available! i know you can get it on COX and Time Warner cable providers. also this includes NHLN in HD! its amazing! also i get versus in HD now too. yipeeeeee) also i'd just like to say how much i love being a part of the red wings community. you guys are all awesome. we should have some convention in the big D some day and cook mass quantities of meat and talk hockey! peace.

anyway that post game interview with ozzie can get posted? i'm dying to see it. sounds hilarious. my dad watched and said the wings didn't look spectacular. more of a coast to a slim victory type thing. no complaining, just wondering who agrees/disagrees. cheers

just FYI. if crosby stays on the pace he's at now (1.38 PPG) and plays 1,350 games in his career (130 less than gretzky and 400 less than Howe) HE WOULD STILL FINISH 2nd ALL TIME IN POINTS. i just don't understand the dissapointment. UNLESS, you actually believed those that said "HE IS THE NEXT GREAT ONE. HE WILL BE THE BEST EVER". if you bought that than i guess i can sort of see where you are coming from. BUT. you have to understand that NO ONE, NO ONE will EVER be as good as wayne. love him or hate him, i can honestly say that i dont think anyone will ever touch his records. at least not for 100 years. maybe its the way the game is played. maybe its goaltending, maybe its rule changes. whatever it is, wayne is the best there ever will be. he is so friggin far ahead its not even worth considering IMO. so taking that into account, crosby is damn good and has at shot at 2nd all time.

i was about to hop on the "if you think crosby was overhyped you are out of your mind" band wagon myself. no one has a better PPG avergae than crosby since he entered the NHL (Ovechkin is second with 1.29 and crosby is at 1.38). he is easily the most dynamic TWO WAY player in the game (i'd say zetts is a close second in this category). If you think he hasn't been the best player overall the last 3 seasons, i dont know what to tell you. so unless your expectations were that he would score 160 points a year and win 3 stanley cups with a less than stellar supporting staff, i'd say he's lived up to the hype. as has ovechkin. they're both great. they are the two best players in the game. i'm interested as to what the people think the expectations were of sid that they have been let down by his performance. ps: sidney doesn't turn 21 til august. the kid still has 20 years in his barring injury.

hell anything is better than what they came up with. seriously a class of third graders could have done better. "fly on wings of red" "stanley is from hockeytown" "roll on WINged wheels" "never back down" "detroits finest" "here, the tradition is victory" or for all you 300 fans "THIS IS HOCKEYTOWN" hell those are all terrible and a spewed them out in 12 seconds. and yet EVERY one of them is better than ARE YOU IN. at least IMO.

"ride the red wave" isn't that verbatim, a slang phrase describing relations with a female during her time of the month? not to get graphic but thats all i could think of whenever i heard that. BRING IT. was the best. or how about we steal from jackie moon and the bud light commercial. "Bud light, SUCK IT!" slogan is lame. isn't it THIEVED from verizon wireless anyways. could have sworn some service provider had that as their catchy phrase. poop. just poop.

certainly not intentional and also certainly avoidable. just one of those things that happens from time to time. i'm on the fence on the whole touch up icing thing. 99 times of 100, icing is called when the opposing team has 3-4 seconds to skate to their end to touch up uncontested. the other time, its a heated battle for the puck sometimes being one that is touched by the offending team first. This may or may not lead to a scoring chance, but i guess i'd like to leave it in for the simple reason that goals ARE scored from time to time on negated icing calls. and anything that subtracts from scoring is LAME if it isn't completely necessary. i like me some goals. the young stars game that was played 3 on 3 with no stoppages on all-star weekend was wildly entertaining. yes even when ozzie was getting lit up like a christmas tree. but i digress. hopefully he can make a full recovery from the surgery.

you can add stuart to the injured list (season- broken finger). wings win nail biter coming from behind. 5-3 Wings: Z, lids, dats, mule, pesky ENG. Nash: *****, ass, poop head. i just hope the refs stay out of this one. at least in the "goaltender interference" category.
-
well f*** me running. next thing you know kronner and lids will be struck by lightning. can any blueliners catch a break in the second half of the season? come on. this is getting out of hand. my thoughts. healthy scratch EVERY SINGLE STARTING player for the last 8 games. including goaltenders. who cares if we lose them all. at least we'll be healthy for the first round. (note exaggeration/sarcasm with a hint of sincerity) time to start sitting Z too. we need his back to be at 100%.

i'm sure its been noted ad nauseum, but you and your sister are hot, for lack of a better more interesting adjective. i know beautiful women when i see them and you two fit the bill. plus wings fans to boot. fantastic. only been to the joe once (game two round three of the ducks WCF last year). most impressive? every single person wearing red. best thing about the stadium? mini Hockey Town Authentics inside the stadium with tons of cool swag.
