    Olausson OT winner 2002

I miss fischer. obviously we can't speculate on how good he would or wouldn't be. But the argument could be made that Lids, Rafi, Stuart, Kronner, Fischer, Chelios would be the best 6 D-men to ever skate together. Granted I'm 21 and can't talk even for the 80's, but i don't know if i can recall a stronger top SIX D-men in the last 10-15 years. thoughts?

    Stick Questions

Dats/Filpula: RBK 9K "O- Stick" Hank/Lids: Easton Synergy Elite Hudler/Cleary: Easton Stealth (also what yzerman used when he retired) Samuelson: Solomon Evolution Lebda/Kronwall: Bauer XXXX Homer: Warrior AK-47 (with a hacked off blade) Draper: Warrior Dolomite Rafalski: Mission (unkwn model) thats all i got. thats from pics/memory of game used sticks seen recently at hockeytown authentics. O-stick is nice but a waste of money. TPS makes decent one piece composite sticks for a reasonable price. If money is no object i say get the Synergy SL (super light). You'll break em like mad, but they are a sweet twig. The ST (super tough) is a good piece too, for a little more cash and a little heavier.

    Playing Time for Next Year

I disagree. Homer and Dats/Zetts have far more chemistry IMO than Franzen does. I guess that comes with time tho. And cleary has a lot of work to do to catch homer in ice time. Franzen is on his heels but not quite there yet.

Bowman named Senior Advisor to Blackhawks

s***ty. at the same time, who would pass up an opportunity later in life, to work side by side with your boy. I didn't need to read anything past his son working for the hawks to know exactly why he made the call. Good luck Mr. Bowman. Your time with the wings does not go underappreciated. And there are no hard feelings.

    Are we really Hockeytown?

I envy you. 1) i don't have DVR 2) even if i did, i would be lying if i said i'd watch every game. I'm 21 years young. And my dedication is torn between driking heavilly/being at bars with friends and the Detroit red wings. I do catch about half the games each year though.

    The Most Overrated/Underrated Superstar

to whoever said gretzky is OVERrated, please never discuss anything hockey related ever again if you were serious. (however you did say something to the effect of you speaking more to his coaching ability maybe or something, but maybe you just don't like the guy??? IDK) 894 goals and 1,963 assists in 1,487 games for 1.92 PPG. don't touch wayne's hockey ability even if you think he's a D-Bag (i'm not even a huge fan, but i respect the fact that no one will ever again lace up a pair of skates and do what he did. EVER). crosby is not overrated either. as much as we all hate hearing about him. He's top two in the league. and has the best start of any rookie in the past 20 years. sure the media never leaves the tip of his dick, but he's good. he's really good.

    Are we really Hockeytown?

nothing else really needs to be said, but i'll add anyways. You can do all the sweet math tricks you want but it boils down to this. i would venture to say there are on average 10 football fans for every 1 hockey fan in this country. Maybe even more lopsided than that. Even my friends who are really into sports couldn't name 15 NHL franchises, let alone which cities they play in. The sport is just not a popular end of story. So when you ask the question, "Why the hell isn't the joe sold out every game but lions games are? THEY BLOW" you can't look for a one word answer. Its the economy yes (lets be real its terrible in detroit right now), but it's also the fact that 10-15 times as many people seek out football tickets than hockey tickets. And yes you can multiply the number of seats at the joe times 3.24 to equal the amount of seats at ford field to get a better idea of..... WHATEVER. But Note: Each game of football that is played means so much more because there are so few of them. The fans hang on every pass. You bet your ass that if the wings played once a week, you'd shape your life around being glued to the TV/at the game and not missing a single second of the action. anyways. just my two cents. THIS IS HOCKEYTOWN.

any pics of hanks girlfriend. like good ones? hanks presence in the photo is not necessary... ty in advance

    Are we really Hockeytown?

I would venture to say that detroit is in the worst (and if not +1 at least top 5) economic state of any US city at present. When your entire cities infrastructure is based on an industry that is wavering in sales and making job cuts like its going out of style, ticket sales will suffer. they just will. I challenge anyone to find a city that is in a terrible economic state and still sells out every HOCKEY game (other sports don't count because they, hate it or not, are far more popular and have more fans willing to go to games). I mean the topic did say HOCKEYTOWN. In a word: YES. The big D IS HOCKEYTOWN. /story anyone that says otherwise is an idiot. In addition: i challenge anyone to submit a hockey team that has more fans at AWAY GAMES than the detroit red wings. go ahead. it can't be done. I've been to wings games in 5 US cities (LA, Anaheim, San Jose, Phoenix, and Detroit) and I have yet to attend a single one where the Wings fans made up less than 40% of the Crowd. Hell, Wings fans are more often than not LOUDER than the home fans (if you discount the goal horn and music the home team gets). And I go to kings/ducks games on a regular basis that the wings aren't playing in, and the crowds are MAYBE 15-20% Away fans. usually less. case in point. wings fans span far and wide. no other hockey team compares.

More proof that Ovechkin is basically awesome

hopefully this isn't a dumb question but Iggy is who? never heard it before about a wing. only thing that comes to mind is Igor Larionov. but please feel free to enlighten me. and those girls are very nice! (borat voice)

can't help it. chuck norris once clogged a toilet while taking a piss. chuck norris likes his women like he likes his whiskey. aged 12 years and mixed up with coke. chuck norris' "member" is so large it has its own elbow. /end chuck norris jokes.

    Who was datsyuk dancing with?

i wouldn't say dive as sykoras reaction to the impact shows he shouldered him pretty square and most likely hit him with enough force to knock him off balance quite a bit. he did however EMBELLISH the incident. but thats what good players do now and again. they put their team on the PP and give em a chance to put one in. Now the ribeiro slash reaction was a dive. come on. My favorite part of that entire video was not franzen over malkin, dats on roberts, or lilja on sykora. Nay. It was the THREE NIL SCORE ON THE TOP OF THE SCREEN. lick one crosby.

Sundin still doesn't know what the !@$% he's doing

Last i heard vancouver offered him 10 mil. i just don't see him taking an ENORMOUS pay cut to come to the wings. hence, i could give two s***s where he goes. So long as it isn't anaheim...

    Filppula's SCF Goal

^ sergei vid Damn he was good. And i still love the guy AS A WING. I don't care what he did after. You can't let that detract from what he did here and his legacy in the red and white. Hate him all you want for post-wings moves, but love him for what he was able to accomplish in a wings sweater. i miss him. and i still wish him all the best.

    Filppula's SCF Goal

just in case anyone needs a refresher (i did) here is the goal that sparked the topic. my 2 cents: ONE of the greatest goals of THIS YEAR? ABSOLUTELY (although i think as far as wings goals go, Hank's no look spinny backhand maneuver of excellence takes the cake). Greatest EVER? not even top 20 IMO. But hey, thats why they call it an opinion! great great goal tho.

More proof ESPN doesn't even watch hockey

My point was that the media loves cinderella stories. The celtics had one, and we have more or less dominated the sport more than any other team in the last 10-12 years. So it was no Surprise When we won lord stanley for the 4th time in 11 Years. Plus no one really cares about hockey, so you can't be surprised. look at Josh Hamilton for example. The guy became addicted to crack after being picked NUMBER ONE in the 98 draft. He now has 95 RBI's at the all star break. I'll crap in my own mouth if the guy doesn't win MVP simply because of his story (even if a guy on his own team has better slugging and OBP---> Milton Bradley). AND thanks Opie for getting my back on that one!

More proof ESPN doesn't even watch hockey

The celtics went from a 28-56 record, to winning it all-----> Best Team? CHECK. Don't really now how you can argue with that comback story, especially since hockey is probably the 5th most popular sport in america behind the 3 major and nascar (as much as it pains me to say it). Crosby? yeah AO most likely deserved it. But its like anything else voted on by fans, most popular takes the cake. eh. none of this bothers me. I still personally like ESPN for everything but hockey coverage (save EJ Hradek, i like him).

If we lose in the Finals, is '08-'09 season a failure?

Failure is almost certainly measured on recent success in the realm of sports. For example, the blue jackets/coyotes/blues making the playoffs (even if they lose in RD. 1) would have to be viewed as a success, being that they have not made the playoffs in recent years. Where as the Wings/Sharks have enjoyed reg. season and playoff success for quite some time, and missing the playoffs/being bounced in Rd. 1 would be a disaster. So, in most ways, the wings season will be deemed a "failure" if they don't win it all. They did it this year, then added one of the most dynamic players in the game. You'd be an idiot not to pick them as the favorite. Its a harsh reality. For me, as long as they put forth enough effort to win each game, i'll be satisfied. As long as they look like they're earning their money out there, i'm cool. Its like the two siblings bringing home report cards. One kid always gets C's and brings home two B's---> he gets a party. The Kid who never fails to earn straight A's brings home two B's and the parents say "What the hell happened here?"

Which teams could you live without

i beg to differ. lose california teams, lose california fans of the game. Now i'm a wings fan, duh. but i still love seeing them in my backyard against LA/ANA. look at them, both in the top HALF of revenue. And don't tell me its because the ducks won the cup (see LA: as they have been s*** for 15 years and still draw BIG crowds and dedicated fans). i think the teams where they are is how its gonna stay and the way it should be. although phoenix to a better state/ city in canada is good move. AZ is just a s*** state (no offense to ppl that live there). People live there because A) its a Dirt cheap west coast alternative to Cali or B) they are retired and can buy a mansion for 300k and spend they're remaining years living off social security. Think about it, no pro sports teams in: Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas (both the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals play in Kansas City, Missouri), Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Vermont, Virginia (the most populous state on this list), West Virginia, Wyoming most of those far more deserving of a SPORTS team, and definitely more deserving of a hockey team than AZ. but i digress. things are more or less fine the way they are.
