Signed a #2 dman to replace schnieder. Got a tough gritty guy who can come in and lay some hits on some guys. Got a top 5 goaltender in the net. Let two underacheiveing overpaid players walk. (addition by subtraction) Didn't go overboard and sign guys to some ridiculous contracts that may hinder the re signing of Z in two years. Besides the fact last time I checked, it's only July 11th, safe to say there is at least a COUPLE more days left in the offseason, and a nice chunk of change to play with. Not to mention the some of the young guys that are ready to step into bigger roles. My suggestion, relax, enjoy your summer and when the season roles around enjoy the team you've got. Not too long ago there was no Red Wings to watch, didn't that suck worse? Players like Gurein and Bert aren't the answer and there's no point in overpaying for them. Kenny's a pro, he'll handle it.

Why's that silly when it's the truth and you know it is.
-
Sadly for some people alot of it has to do with birthplace as silly as that sounds. If cheap enough sure I don't mind, but I'm with Offsides on this one, not at the cost of a shot at Sergei.
-
Blindsides Aubin up high?!? I'd bench him if he didn't make that hit. That's textbook and why Mickey always says to keep your head up. That's what a hit is supposed to be, Lebda yeah that was a cheapshot, and as I stated in my first post in this thread a reason why I really couldn't stand the guy much anymore. But he's exactly the type that can help the Wings alot and he was far from one of my most hated or the cheapest players around. I don't understand some of those who hate the signing. Why so bitter. It wastes virtually no cap space, and if some of you are right he won't even be playing anyway, so what's the big deal? Although he will be playing IMO. He knows what his job will be and he'll do it well. Maybe finally the grind line can get that bite back it used to have.

Alot of them just want the flavor of the week. Or even stranger just pick a certain player at random and get all pissed off when there not signed. Instead of going on a player by player basis and evaulating the situation, they go to TSN, look at height, weight, country of origin, and age. Oh yeah, they may read the pro's and con's and take them as the hockey bible. Instead of watching the players play and forming there own opinions. Drake is 6-1 and plays a bigger game than alot of taller guys. Same as Cleary.

Like this? "Seriously though, I haven't been able to stand this guy after seeing some of the borderline hits he lays on. He plays nasty, hits, cheapshots.....sure why not?"- bringback91 quoted before signing offical Although, I never said he was one of the dirtiest players in the leauge. I thought the 2 games for that was enough. All you can really do as a Wings fan is support the guy, no? I mean, stuck with him now like it or not.

I say 20. 10's obviously out of the question as is 28 I assume. so yeah 20 or 15.
-
So you like it too?!?
-
I've already got a new screenname ready to go! 1.1 is a little more than I thought he get, still like the signing. Puts a little nastieness back into the grind line.

*handshake* "welcome aboard"
-
I remember what I believe to be his first goal. Didn't he like slam into the goalie and take him into the net along with the puck? hahah, maybe it wasn't his first one, but his rookie season. cicada- Actually Johnson was supposed to get a roster spot. Drake will be playing, this may also be a pre-cursor to a trade.
-
It's an Eklund speical... ... but apperently it's already done. Heres what he says... "I am hearing a ton of rumblings this morning that I am chasing down... We will start with this news.. Dallas Drake is returning to where it all began and has signed a deal with the Detroit Red Wings..." - Hockeybuzz I wouldn't go as far as to call the guy pretty much useless. Actually I think he'd be a perfect fit with the grind line.
-
Don't even care if they can skate!!! As long as there at least 6-6 245 lbs.!!!
-
I get where your going, but come on toby, did you ever think there'd be a time you'd be comparing "The BIG E" to Hudler as far as effectiveness? My guess for E, Phoenix. *edit*--- spelled phoenix wrong, had to read jayup's post to realize it.

Anything to keep #88 as far away from the Wings as possible. Seriously though, I haven't been able to stand this guy after seeing some of the borderline hits he lays on. He plays nasty, hits, cheapshots.....sure why not? He's got heart and plays tough. He'd come very cheap for 1 year and he can skate. Makes you keep you head up and notice when he's on the ice that's for sure. Sounds better than some of the names I've heard floating around here.
-
Wow, I've made jokes about some on here wanting to pick this guy up, but I never seriously thought some would actually consider it. I swear some of you must just like to see new players come in. That's the only way a move like this could be justified. This whole "grit" and "size" bologna has reached all new lows, it's apperently getting desprate for some. Funny how the rejuvinitve waters of Detroit only apply to certain players. In his prime Lindros would just hover around gliding between blue lines instead of back checking (and you thought Lang was lazy?!?) now it's more of a lumber, but without the hits, fights, or goals. I can't believe some actually consider this a good idea. The comparison between him and Cheli and Dom is weak at best. Cheli and Dom have shown really no decline in there overall games in 5 years, Big E looks like he's base jumping without a parachute.

If the roster is the same in October, Dats and Hank will be on different lines.
-
Yeah I read that site occasionally. kindl, actually I think he'd only be owed 4. I think the Caps still pay half his salary if I'm not mistaken. I know they pay a portion of it. No, don't think it happen either, that's why I said "random trade speculation by gator, which I put little stock in".
-
Randomly heard this on 1270, put little stock in it myself but the "gator" said there is a possiblity of the Rangers going after Souray, in which case they'd look to move Jagr to be able to sign Souray and the Wings would be interested. But he also said he thinks the Wings will end up with forsberg, so like I said....random trade speculation. Don't see Jiri being invoulved in it anyway.

I guess I just would rather any tough guy thats on the roster, actually be able to play if say someone gets hurt or something and he's pressed into regular game play. I'm not at all opposed to toughness and fighting. Harold had a good post in another thread about ex-wing tough guys. And with the exception of Joey K. and Grimson they could all also produce some points and some forchecking. They could skate. Chris Neil, DMac back in the day, hell even Domi before retirement tough guys that would take on heavy weights that can also play. I'll give you the fact I would take Parros over Langfeld. Can't argue that. I'm really not trying to argue or anything, but honestly Parros had as much to do with any Ducks succsess as I did. If someone is going to cheapshot one of your stars there going to do it. I mean did Probert and Joey stop people from taking runs at Steive and Klima. Nope, they'd beat the piss out of them after the fact, but it stops nothing. And Probert was on Stevies line alot of the time. How often would Parros be out there at the same time as Z or Dats? Once again I love hockey fights, love the heavy weights going at it, sad fact is that spots for "enforcers" are running dry, if you can't play too, your not going to be around long.
-
^^ While a somewhat extreme example, this was the stuff I was talking about here Harold, that Crymson quoted. sticknmove, welcome. Cool video. I respectfully disagree with the thought that an enforcer ala George Parros is nessicary. That's a waste of a roster spot IMO. Sure I like to watch his fights, but I wouldn't want him taking a spot with the Wings. With all due respect, Parros had absolutely no bearing on anything the Ducks accomplished. Sure he didn't hurt them, but because he didn't play. No worries though, you'll find many here that do share your opinion.
-
100% agreed. I don't care if there from Moosejaw or Moscow, if they can play they can play. I just don't think the Wings are in as bad of shape as some are making it out to be. Besides, sure would be nice to have that 6 or 7 mil or whatever is left at the dead line when players contracts are cut in like half.
-
Worst offseason ever? Nah, one word.....Krupp. Some more jems.....Hatcher, Not sure if this was offseason or not, but remember the time they mortgaged the farm traded away half the team for Jimmy Carson? It could always be worse.
-
Yeah, but two of them weren't even here the whole year and really did nothing. I am a big fan of #23 but he's been replaced by a younger and bit better player. (although I wished he'd stayed, no fault of Kenny though) Everyone knew Lang was gone and he's easily replaced by Flip, or a certain "buy out" or deadline aquisiton..... .... but yeah I do agree about Markov. I really like the guys style back there, a good mix with the skilled guys. But hey, some youth gets mixed in and Lilja really stepped up the physical play at the end of last year, I expect that to continue. Kinda excited to see what can be done from within the system, rather than grabbing the flavor of the week. Harold, yeah in this thread and many others. Been quite a few mentions of just that "specifically N.A. players"
