Thanks, gosh I love HNIC!
-
Well the Wings are on FSN, correct?
-
Dats will be one of the least of the Wings problems this post season.
-
Exactly. Although not defending Av's fans at all cause your right about that, but that was a heated, (perhaps the best in all of sports IMO) rivalry that lasted well over 5 seasons. Let alone a playoff series.

It's a bit different though. It's not a planned out, every game s*** talking chant. Boo the team, boo a goal they score, whatever floats your boat I guess, but something that's systematic and planned out is stupid and makes them look as such. I'm in favor of cheering more for your own team, than wasting energy on trashing the other one. It's not only the team, city, and goalie they try to trash it's the refs and linesmen. Now don't get me wrong, I can't stand most of the refs either, but to boo a linesman for an obvious offside, not only booing but chanting "ref you suck!" numerous times for a percived missed call (in a game where your team was let go many a time) is childish and silly. The antics that crowd participate in only fuel the perception and stero-types that seem to bother so many of them. Sure I didn't like Forsberg and the av's, and I'd say they "suck" but when I'm at a game I'm too busy cheering for my team, doing the wave, "Lets go Red Wings!" chants and the like to act like a four year watching WWF wrestleing. I'd like my team to first prove something, get off welfare, and actually beat the team, before I started with the "YOU SUCK" nonsense. Classless. Drsingle's a good hockey smart guy too.

Sometimes the truth just hurts.

Gotta love Mickey. Seriously awesome on air personality. One more reason to love the post season, Mick does away games! Reading some of those was just so funny, like I could feel his disappointment that the linesmen would break up a fight before it happened. It'll be tough for someone else to fill his shoes one day. One of my faves from that list: "Ha, ha, ha, ha! Here comes that jackhammer! BOOM! Ha, ha, ha, ha! Excuse me for laughing!" - Mickey laughing about Joey Kocur's punch on Scott Barnaby which knocked his helmet off. (Mar. 29, 1998) One I like that's not on there: " He gave him the B.C. two hander." - Detaling a slash (two handed axe swinging motion), that apperently originated around Vancover. ahhahah

I know! Isn't it so much more refreshing than all the millions of trade datsyuk, greedy russian type bologna threads? Thanks for the bump.
-
Eh, these type of rankings (polls) whatever are always up for debate and often times silly. *offtopic*--- Tsn does crack me up sometimes though, on Crosby's bio you can tell it'd kill them to come up with some sort of flaw for him, even his flaw is a backhanded coplement. Flaws Could probably stand to shoot the puck more often, so as to take better advantage of his goal-scoring prowess. Not saying it's not true, but it's not really a "flaw".
-
This is exactly what me and many of his supporters have been saying all along. But nothing proves our point more than him just letting his play do the talking. It's nice to see him finally getting some positive recognition without all the playoff bashing bologna. Yet that seems to also be addressed here, by none other than Stevie Y., and Babcock. They say the same things I've said in other threads on here, yet I'm labled a "Datsyuk apologist". Well if I am, looks like I'm in some pretty good company.

Sign and trade with the Wings rumors?!?!?
-
Dats has really been on fire. He's been playing great hockey at both ends of the rink. I like the fact he's really stepped up since Z went down and he's leading by example. You can tell he's really enjoying the game right now. He could've easily had a few more goals during this span also, (posts, great saves). I'd like him and Bert to get a few more games in together, it seems to me like there almost there (getting used to each other) and they'll really start clicking soon. Your right, I'm willing to bet this is the year he silences most of his critics. Sadly some will never be happy.

I think they forgot some words...... Dallas- Lucky to be there!! Ottawa- Want to be Red Wings Thrashers- Will someone please Believe in Blueland?! (I actually do though) Preds- Live it up....while you can
-
Pretty dumb IMO. Insturmental to those years they actually had something to celebrate. Although I'm extremley impressed with that team this season.
-
To each his own, but the booing of a goal by the other team isn't the issue. Sure if you feel the need boo the goal, the refs, whatever, but the constant booing of one player, let alone a former great is dumb. I think the Wings would feed off of the cheers for sure, probably out of pure shock. But no, boo's and Nashville like chants wouldn't do jack, except come back to bite you in the ass, as witnessed last night. Did the booing make Fedorov score, no, but it made the fans doing it look pretty dumb IMO. I wouldn't call it self control as much as policeing. It's easy to say what you'd do over a computer, but do that in real life, and well I'm sure you seen what happened to that guy from the palace. Been detained before, not an experience I'd like to repeat. that being said, the booing comment I made was in responce to this quote from drwscc: "If you bought your ticket, and go to the game, you have the right to boo whatever you want" and I'd like to boo the booer's. Tell us how you really feel.
-
"...i wish teams would hate coming into the joe because they knew they were gonna catch hell from the fans"- Lint123 Then what exactly do you mean by this comment? Like I said before, I'd think it be better to have some loud "LETS GO RED WINGS!!", or "OZZIE! OZZIE" type chants. You know, supporting the team and something they might actually feed off of, some plain ole loud cheering for the Wings. VS. trying to make the other teams hate playing at the joe. When was it ever singling a certain player out for constant booing, while sitting on your hands the rest of the game? I don't remember those days. Maybe at a high school pep rally back in the day when they'd boo the principal, but that's about it. It's only loud when the spoiled fan base has some huge accomplishment to celebrate. They don't ever do it just to support the team. It's not that hard to figure out. right, well pulling stunts like punching someone in the face at the Joe is going to get you called "Johnny Convict"
-
Yeah the media in all forms feeds into it aswell. Eh, maybe at the deadline next year we'll all be cheering him again.
-
Riiiiight..... Okay Jon-Claude. Yup, it is right a bad name. Wings fans aren't being talked about in a good light. There not intimidating anyone, obviously. There's no we, I'm not quite, I actually cheer for the Wings. I'd think that would be better than trying to have a bunch of candy ass fans boo the other team into submission. Yeah right, "uh....coach.....uh these fans are restless here in the Joe, uh....I think I'm gonna sit this one out.." - Iginla Give me a break. It's fans like you who are trying to turn it into a high school pep rally mixed with WWF wrestleing. You must have me mistaken, ask around I'm a huge fan of hockey fights. Just not spoiled, whiney, little brat of a fans.
-
Cool so then I can buy a ticket right next to you and boo you everytime you sip a soda or take a bit of pizza? The people you listed are exactly the ones who give the rest of us a bad name. BTW, your crying about people crying.
-
Nope. Name one player on any of those teams more talented than him. Name one more important at both ends of the ice. Him Stevie and Lids were as important as it got. Take any 1 of them away, and it probably wouldn't have gotten done. Fedorov could control a game himself. I think your discounting him too much.

Career Playoff Production #91 13 seasons 162 gp. 163 pts. +38 11 gwg's. #19 20 seasons 196 gp. 185 pts. -11 12 gwg's. I'd say he was anything but a offensive liability. Maybe it takes a bit of smugness, attitude, and a few disappointments to make a champion? I don't know, but I'd have to say the formula worked well for him and the Wings. I don't really get the open net thing, I'm willing to bet he won a hell of alot more games than he lost for the Wings. Don't kid yourself, alot of Wings "fans" only love a winner, they wouldn't be around if times were tough. Fact is if not for Fedorov (who was the missing piece of a championship (finally) puzzle, they wouldn't have cared about the Wings, cause they wouldn't have won any Cups. That's my main problem, sure he plays for a different team, but like it or not he was absoulutly HUGE for the Wings and he deserves some respect. At least not being boo'd every time he touches the puck, they don't even do that to Forsberg. Looking at the numbers, I'd say he was every bit as important as Stevie, something he must agree on if you've heard his speech from his jersey retirement.
-
Where've you been, that's what it's all about around here. Stupid? yes, surprising? no.
-
I don't think any Wings fan wanted the Wings to lose. but since they did, I for one am glad it was Fedorov to send alot of those idiots who boo home with a frown. He got the last laugh this time, and since they lost anyway, I'm glad. I was smiling ear to ear, and if you (not you Gord, but anyone) think I'm not a fan because of it shove it. From SI article: MOSCOW (Reuters) -- Sergei Fedorov, who signed a five-year, $40 million contract as a free agent with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks on Saturday, says he only has fond memories of playing in Detroit. "I can honestly say that 13 seasons with Detroit were the best years of my life," said Fedorov. "That's why I do not have any bitterness leaving the city, but the Detroit fans ... I'm going to miss them the most." Fedorov said he was disappointed not to re-sign with the Red Wings, blaming Detroit general manager Ken Holland for stalling the negotiations. "I've really, really tried to sign with Detroit, but every time we got close, they would back off," he said. "When you negotiate a deal, the two sides must be satisfied with the offer, otherwise it just doesn't work. In the end, I felt like Ken Holland didn't really care to sign me." Detroit owner Mike Ilitch offered Fedorov a five-year, $50 million deal early last season. "It's true that they did offer me that much money last December, but it's not true that I turned it down," he said. "I was in really bad shape back then, I was going through both personal and professional problems. "I was trying to get my life back together, that's why I couldn't concentrate on contract talks then and asked them to wait. But they never came back with the same offer again." In an interview with The Hockey News earlier this year, Fedorov admitted that he was going through tough times after divorcing Russian tennis player Anna Kournikova. Fedorov said that Anaheim general manager Bryan Murray was one of the main reasons he chose the Stanley Cup finalists. "He was my first coach in the NHL back in 1990 when I joined the Red Wings," the Russian said. "He was the one who taught me how to play the NHL style and we've been in contact ever since." Fedorov said. "I've never been a selfish player ever since I started my career with the Red Army. I had always put the team first, that's why in Detroit we won three Stanley Cups in six years.
-
I think it's the opposite, there too worried about former wings to cheer for their team. Kind of like a spoiled kid, who gets their attention focused on one thing, and forgets what really matters. That and the fact they haven't won a cup in a whole 5 years! That shook some of the fair weathers.
-
What through free agency? Maybe it'd of been better if he left like Barry left the Lions? This just proves my point even more that wings fans are greedy and spolied. Nothing is ever enough. I love the high horse act pulled around here too. So you cheer for a former wing great and want to see him do well, that makes you not a wings fan? Yet alot of them are the same people who spew crap statements about half the roster on the team now. It's a joke, just like the stupid booing. I've said it before, the ones booing are like the dumped girlfriend who just can't get over it, and if your not in that catagory you just follow the heard of idiots, which is even worse. Let me guess, you'd all boo Lids if he did the same thing, or maybe Lapointe, or Shanny? If anyone is a "petulant child" it's the jack ass cry babies at the joe who can't grow up and get over it. I hope (and I'm sure he does)he realizes that these blind bafoons don't speak for the entire fan base, there are some ones who realize his accomplishments, and are thankful. This fanbase is so fickle and ridiculous. I can totally see why most of the leauge hates Wings fans. Arrogent and spoiled, just like they always say.
