Official: Osgood to start Game 5

Ah, but they've always been Ozzies team since he re-signed, along with Dom's. I may be stupid, but i like to believe that there is still some guys who love the game and love their team (especialy on the Red Wings) that play for more than money. They'll do whatever it takes to keep winning all year round and most of all in the playoffs. Not saying you loo, but alot of people forget that people like sharp and the likes job is to sell papers. For instance what would sell more papers, "britney staying home with her kids and getting well, taking a break from the hollywood scene" or "britney stumbles out of bar with skirt overhead and no drawers on"? I'll bet all these people (some members on here aswell) have probably had these stories written, just waiting to be able to claim to be the first with this great knowledge, DOMS DONE!!! blah blah blah... That's what i think sets hockey apart from other sports, and the Wings apart from other teams. These guys DOM INCLUDED will do whatever it takes to win. I'm sure dom has no problem admitting, "hey, for one reason or another, this just ain't my series. Ozzie lets go get this win!" And IF (hope they do) they move on, and Ozzie drops a few I'm sure he'd say the same thing right back to Dom. People are stupid sometimes, but if anyone thinks Dom did anything other than come back for the love of the game, there just fishing for something to ***** about the guy. Last time i checked Doms still on the roster, still got a stall, still wears the greatest jersey in all of sports, and is still a leader on this team. I'd be more worried about Dom if he wasn't down right now, and didn't care. It speaks alot about his character that always seems to be called into question. I'll tell you right now, i bet no one is pulling more for Ozzie and the whole team right now as Dom. Just like Ozzie was when he was on the bench.

The Let's Hear it for Datsyuk Thread!

I don't know if your last statement is said in jest or not, but i would have to agree. Totally off topic I suppose, but i notice that you seem to also watch more than just goals and assists, did you happen to notice the play where Drapes ran over someone at the point, then proceeded into the corner and knocked tootoo on his can, which in return tootoo pulled draper down then stepped on his back. No lie, don't have dvr and ken and mickey said not a thing so obviously they missed it, but the camera was right there in perfect view. The Wings got a peanlty on that same play and draper had some words for the ref, I'm assuming about the stomp. And it wasn't like a little kick, it was like he was reaching for the peanut butter on the top shelf and Drapes was the step stool. Outragous and suspension worlthy for sure. Unless it was less than appeared as i said, i got one live action look at it so.....

    Zetterberg's performance.

I don't know that panicking is ever a good thing.... I vote for "Panic in Detroit" by David Bowie as the offical LGW playoff theme song, no matter where the series stands.

    The Euro Twins

Eh, you gotta take it for what it's worth though. On a day when 2 of the first thread titles i read are calling for a new captian , another asking if the most sought after G.M. in hockey will be fired, and so on I was expecting things like this which is why I've chose to post when normaly I refrain now days, for obvious reasons. While I do agree that Z and Lids are the ultimate in LGW golden boys who most consider immune to critisim, there is no reason so far in this series that they should be. Actually they've been 2 of the best players on either team by doing the little things to win games that go unnoticed by some. As i saw these "critisims" which were more of attacts against Dats as foolish, I also do these against Z. A little cliche to sum up my opinions on the rest of this series, "nashville may have just awoken the sleeping giant that is the Red Wings". I really hope Nashville and there fans are feeling as good about this series as Wings fans are down, it'll be nice to see them slapped back down to reality, no? GO WINGS!!

The Let's Hear it for Datsyuk Thread!

Like I said before all through last off season, season and before the playoffs when i was branded a "slappy" and my personal favorite "Datsyuk apologist" I'll continue to let his play do the talking.
  6. bringback91

    The Euro Twins

thats exactly what was happening to Dats when he was branded a "disappearing act". Some people think the only way to have an impact and help the team win has to be reflected on the scoresheet. Just not true. I said it in another thread, I don't think Z's 100%, but i don't think it matters. Dudes a leader in the mold of Stevie Y, and he's going to have something to say about this seires before it's over, believe that. People over react after a playoff loss, that's understandable. I'm glad the Wings don't. No Z hasn't been playing his best hockey so far, neither has most of the team, that's a good thing if you ask me, being tied 2-2. I could be wrong but, expect to see the Wings best game OF THE YEAR so far next game, Z included.

    Should Kronner be suspended?

Seems like some Wings fans forget what it's like to have someone on the blueline who'll throw some big hits. All i hear is "not enough toughness", "not enough grit", "soft euro's" well looked like Kronner may have at least addressed that for one game anyway. I love it, I hope to see more of it. You want playoff toughness and grit, your going to have to accept that sometimes players on the Wings are going to have to bend or even break some of the rules. It's expected from the other teams, and i'm glad it appears the days of the Wings only taking and not dishing it out are over and i could'nt be happier. I thought this was far from the Wings A game, all around i give them a C. The part that was the brightest spot for me was the physical side of the game. The Wings looked tough, and that's a great sign. One of topic thing....Mac had a good game i thought, fiesty and was playing the body at every oppertunity and his game will only improve as the seires and hopefully entire playoffs wear on. Everybody was playing tough and not backing down, getting in the Preds faces when they were trying to take some libertys with some of the Wings. Once they put it all together some analysts are going to start changing their tune about this team. Bottom line, no suspension the play got called and with the missed calls all game, I'd say Trotz should be happy with that.

Fedorov is self-centred; more conclusive proof

Gordo, overkill is posting the same things in every thread that's about something you don't like over and over again. Anyone who reads anything on this board more than once a month knows how you feel about it. I just don't know that pumping a bunch of responses in a thread you hate is the best way to make them go away. The guy was one of the greatest players to ever where a Detroit uniform, let alone a Wings one, so don't be surprised to still be hearing things about him long after his retirement. And really I like reading new threads, and who cares how many there are on a specific topic anyway? I've seen people complaining, strangely enough none of them have been mod's. You are LGW royalty and all gord, but I wouldn't get your hopes up on Matt redesigning the board around your reading preference. What's dumber than posting a new article about a Red Wing great, is argueing over a playoff roster spot and who gets it when one of the guys never plays beyond the 10 min mark in the 2nd period in a meaningless game, yet you'd think the guy is going to make or break the post season. (BTW wouldn't mind seeing Downey get in a few, and no he's not a loose cannon, but I'm not ready to take up that spot on the bench when there are superior all around players to take that spot on a nightly basis) GO WINGS!

    Datsyuk a Hart candidate?

A majority act like assholes too, and have their head so far up lids and Z's they can't see, don't make it right. All that's well and fine, just funny how it's always the same couple of people who make it their mission to go into every slightly positive thread and try to rip the guy down. IMO Dats is the teams MVP, about tied with Lids. One MAJOR difference is Dats always shoulders some of the blame especally in the playoffs for losses, while Lids never does. Now that there is some coulded judgement.

Holland Expected to be on 97.1FM at 5 PM

Hudler has 11 in way more games and is half sized. If you think Feds isn't an improvement for the playoffs, your spewing more than sentimental crap.
  11. bringback91

Holland Expected to be on 97.1FM at 5 PM

If that's true, sounds like some people value there own feelings over what's best for the team. Which is exactly what alot of posters get accused of around here. (not just with Feds, but on many other topics) So you mean to tell me that Kenny Holland is going to put himself on the line cause some players feelings might get hurt? Also are these the same players welcoming in Mac (which is a move I'm in favor of) with open arms? Seems to be sending a bit of a mixed signal if that's the case. No Fedorov would'nt alone bring the cup, but he sure would help that 2nd line and 2nd PP. I really hope that the Wings haven't become some elitest group who would nix a deal for some help because there feelings were hurt. If that's the case, how the hell did Bertuzzi end up on the Wings? He wasn't exactly a fan or player favorite here in Detroit if i remember correctly. Forsberg would be simply loved here huh? I think the more realistic way of looking at it is Columbus didn't want to trade with the Wings, but hey, that's not as entertaining as a conspiracy full of "No way Kenny, I'M not playing on the same team as him....hmmmmpphhh." If true I'd like these players to step up and state there stance as to why they would turn away desprately needed 2nd line scoring help. Are they intending on picking up the slack? Are they planning on doing it all themselves this year, cause apperently they don't need help if there willing to veto a trade (thought kenny was the g.m.?) and any player that would have a problem would've had to have played with him, and those guys aren't going to be around much longer Lids included so they better win it all soon. Unless Dats hates the thought of another Russian on the team. If true this was a "team" desicion that they are good enough to do it by themselves. If that's the case I better start seeing some stepping up from alot of guys, cause right now this is a one line team. And they better look at who's signing the checks, cause Illich still likes Feds from all accounts, Bowman still likes the guy and speaks highly of him, I can's see Stevie being blinded by emotion and I'm sure Illich would like the g.m. to explain why he's letting players and staff make his decsions for him. Honestly I didn't give it too much thought (this deadline) and it shook out about the way I thought it would, but not for the reasons posted above. I would've liked to seen some help on forward, but didn't want to part with flip or franzen and knew the others would'nt fetch much of anything. but still with the soap opera bulls*** about the guy even when he has nothing to do with it is silly. Gotta admitt no matter what your stance is, it's pretty odd if this is true that there are still such strong feelings against the guy, while players like Bertuzzi are welcomed. BTW, what a punishment, now he only gets to play with the best player in the game.

    McCarty officially signs with Wings

Yeah well Mac would be about all your going to get with your "trade list".

    McCarty officially signs with Wings

Great to hear! Come on guys, we need more people to outline exactly what Mac can't do, like esteef said in another thread, (although i like the title of this one better) so he can prove ya'll wrong again. Exactly, Ellis for Mac is a good trade off. Just added some grit ( i know, it'll never be enough, anyway) and a whole lot of heart and that's one thing no amount of coaching can bring. Good deal for the Wings, great deal for mac, wings fans should be proud rather than spiteful.
  14. bringback91

    Matt Ellis on Waivers

I like Ellis seems like a hard working player, but really just too far down the depth chart to have any real impact on the Wings. At least now he's got alot better shot at getting some real ice time.

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

True and very well could be the case, but still, all that time and effort into building this fake Flip (of all pro atheltes) website thing (not really sure what facebook is, assume it's another myspace?) on the odd chance someone will bite and run with a trade rumor from it.... If that's the case God bless whoever gets invoulved in a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship with this guy/girl. I'm no Dr. Phil but that kinda behaviour seems like a one way ticket to restraining order land. Oh, but don't worry, Eklund had his very own "facebook" detective look it over and they said it was fake. - he really did say that on his site.

Hossa Sweepstakes down to four teams?

I'm just saying, if the facebook thing is back up with some changes made (like the whole traded to ATL thing) than someone must really, really like to act like they're Flip. Which is very, very strange, but then again it is a strange world we live in.

    Darren McCarty Progress Thread

Lets face it, Downey hardly sees the ice past the 10:00 mark of the second period now, what do you think it's going to be like in the playoffs? Yes I agree, Downey has earned his roster spot, as has Ellis and Meech have. I don't see a whole lot of ice time for them in the playoffs either. Kopecky has been playing well lately, but I don't see him getting more than 8 mins max in the playoffs, besides, IMO he's not going to be here past the 26th. As much as i like the guy, no ones going to want Hudler, up front they'll ask for Flip (can't move him unless it's for Hossa IMO), or Kopecky possibly Ellis as a throw in. I have no problem if the Wings pull a big tough team in the playoffs having both Downey and Mac in the line up. That's the point though, you should be able to be flexable and have a few different looks you can throw at the other team. And i'm not knocking Downey in any way, I like the guy and get excited everytime he's on the ice cause you don't know what might happen, but in the playoffs i just think your going to have to have something else to offer. mac has the basic hockey skills downey lacks, no matter how many people think they know he doesn't cause he's now "old". Alot of all of this depends on other trades, and who does or doesn't leave the team thorugh a trade. Something else to think about what if Downey gets hurt, who's going to fill that roll? I guess i'm trying to say you have to sign this guy to a contract no matter what, the 23 man roster expands, and if he can get his conditioning up (no doubt he can, it's actualy one of the easier things to improve in your game) it's really a no brainer.
  18. bringback91

    Darren McCarty Progress Thread

It really brings a smile to my face also. Really i see no reason against it, and neither does Holland apperently. I understand everyone is coming around to Downey more and more, and I give props to those who supported him from the start I like the guy as much as the next, but lets be realistic. Downey is NOT a better hockey player than Mac, I don't care how old mac is now, the fact he's "had his chance" with the Wings and all of that jibber jabber he's simply a better all around player. And that's TODAY, not "the mac of 5 years ago...blah,blah,blah". Another month of conditioning is exactly what Mac needs, with the Wings or G.R., and than i don't see how you could possibly want Downey in a 4th line roll in the playoffs over Mac. Hell, I don't even care if Mac puts on a Wings jersey this year (would love it though) as long as he shows enough to EARN a contract from the Wings, which apperently he has, that's huge and a true sign he's back and turned his life around for the better. Looks like I might get to say "welcome home Mac!"

Nick Lidstrom hit + reprercussions + idiot annoucer

I'd be on board for sure, although not my first choice I like the fact Tollefson's not afraid to drop the gloves at all and is a pretty strong guy, which makes up for his somewhat lack of skill. Stick him on the third pair with Cheli. Another guy i like is Shane Obrien, although he seems to lose just about every fight he gets in, but at least he gets in them. As far as Lappy goes, no his overall game isn't about cheapshots and he's no chris simon, I just think he got a bit carried away. Not going to say he flew in with the forearm or anything, just think he knowingly got a little extra in there at the end. What really bothered me more than that though and seemed out of character for him was the flying cross check to Downey's face. You can't really tell from the replay provided in here, but watching the replay during the game, you could see downey waive him in with his hand like a man and that's what it ended up with. Lost a bit of respect from me on that one not going to lie.

If you ever did anything around here other than talk s*** there's no way to back up, you'd know me and gordo are hardly in a "gang".

Nick Lidstrom hit + reprercussions + idiot annoucer

The double standard exisits for sure, and i don't think assistant coaches should only be seen and not heard, but in the Kocur instance to me and probably others including Joe himself, it seemed as though Q was ordering hits or just lost control of his team. Sure a coach may once in a while lose control of a player on a certain play, but that game against St. Louis appeared scripted by the Stl coaching staff. I think Joe was fed up and just giving a bit of a "warning" that things should go no further on the ice, or it might just spill over the boards. I also agree to an extent about Lappy, although i thought he seen a slight chance at a shot and took it, knowing full well he'd be paying. That's fine, he got beat down and pussed out. But that slop that lead into the whole scrum was a complete ***** move. Watch the replay, you can clearly see Downey call him out by waving him in for a fight, and he pulls the crosscheck to the face? Again supreme ***** move as was trying to jump in as a third man by Mc, than proceding to act like an escaped zoo gorilla when his teammate was the one who started it. Granato shoud've kept his face on his bench, I'd of loved to see Babcock pop him in the beak for poking it where it don't belong.
  24. bringback91

Nick Lidstrom hit + reprercussions + idiot annoucer

I'm guessing he got flashbacks of Joey K. Thus was frozen out of fear that while very small there was still a slight chance Joey might be in the building somewhere. edit- besides it's obvious Babcock would kick Q's ass.

    Vinny Lecavalier

hahaha Gordo you'd trade Dats and Fedorov for Benny Lecavalier. ahhahah i joking. But what about Z and Dats for Vinny....... Seriously though i wouldn't be surprised to see Vinny in Montreal.
