2/13 GDT: Grand Rapids Griffins @ Syracuse Crunch
Coyote0106 replied to Aussie_Wing's topic in General
For Mirasty being such a tough guy, Syracuse has done a good job of keeping him off the ice when Downey is on... I wonder if they don't have as much confidence in the match up as we do. Edit: I'd love to see the Griffs explode in this one, win big, and get the monkey off their back. -
Press sports columnist David Mayo charged with growing marijuana

Good! He goes, and the Press is forced to get REAL writers. -
Heck yea.... Here's a quote from another Griffin site about the incident:
-
Normally, Milwaukee is good for a youtube video of the fight. Hopefully we see Mursak kicking some serious ass. He is my favorite non-fighter, and now that he actually dropped the gloves, even better. Feb 20th can't get here soon enough. He's turning into my favorite Griff, and that says something...cause I NORMALLLY like the tough ones. We ended up losing in the third, tough outing for the Griffs. Thats 0-3.....hopefully this skid ends pretty soon.

Just to add fuel to the fire, Manitoba won. We're in second.
-
How's that for embarrassing. 10-5 loss to the marlies. You thought last night's game was bad, it would have been even worse at this one.
-
What a crappy start. It must be quite a hangover from the pups.

This game was just one of those where no one was in to it, and were hoping they could just breeze through it. Lake Erie came to play, and the Griffins were thinking about last night still. Our defense got burned on the one-on-one battles, our offense wasn't skating to loose pucks in the offensive zone. If it wasn't stick to stick, no one cared. Downey got frustrated, and took 2 BAD penalties. The last one was the worst, he just went up to the goalie and gave him a nice shove. Tardiff came out after the goal they scored to make it 2 to 1, and tried sparking things, and ended up with a boarding call from the biased ref. All I can really choke it up to is a bad outing. We still have a game in hand on Manitoba so hopefully we make that actually useful 'cause they blew it last night. When the opportunity is there for the taking, this teams seems to fall apart (see Manitoba game on home ice).

Thank God there wasn't a GDT for this game. I'm still waiting for the "game" to happen. One team showed up, and one didn't. It was probably the worst game all year. And I don't know if Mursak's goal will make youtube...

Jan freakin' Mursak. That was great. EVERYONE was happy to see him get it. He has been working hard lately, and you could tell he wanted that first. Hopefully it doesn't drive up the price of his jersey on the 20th.

I love that stat right there. It really shows how deep our team is, that we aren't relying on 1 or 2 guys to get goals. Everyone can pitch in and help out in the scoring department. It's just another reason for the big turnaround from last season to this one. Edit: I almost forgot, Go Griffs! Chi-town sucks.
-
That stat sheet is impressive! Very nice work on that.

I'll be in Detroit so I'll miss this one....but good luck to the boys. Here's hoping for a dominant effort, that includes more goals than the last 2 contests with this team...combined.

It started with Tardif and Stewart hugging right in front of the Griff bench. Stewart couldn't get free, so he seemed content to hug until the refs stepped in. Tardif threw quite a few, and landed some...then pulled the jersey up and over Stewarts head. He got in 2 more good shots, and the refs stepped in. Stewart skated to the box with a nice shiner on his cheek. Kolosov really is doing MUCH better than the beginning of the year. He's using his weight, making nice outlet pass plays. The scoring is just an added bonus It was nice to see our offense show up for the first time in a while. My real question is this, did any of you other guys watching (online or at the game) notice our D-men pinching at weird times? Emmerton especially, did one helluva job getting back to the point, or further in order to cover for a bad pinch by a d-man.
-
What a goal by Ville. We've seen that spin move all year, but he actually stuffed it in, instead of making the great pass. What a move. That's going to be on SportsCenter's top 10 for sure. And just cause I couldn't resist: With moves like that he doesn't need to look for a wife, a wife will find him.

This annoys me more than it probably should. Why the hell did Fraser/Ericsson decide to play then? We had Jozsa available, and I do NOT believe he is injured. There is no way in hell that an injured Ericsson does ANYONE any good. I just don't understand it I guess. As for the game, I thought our D was there in the first period, but then magically it disappeared again. Howard made some really nice saves, but their goalie (Brodeur) made some nicer ones. Their goalie "stole" those 2 points, much like we did last weekend. Hopefully he doesn't start tonight, or has his rare off game.

I sit in 108, and love it.

Now we need to also remove Abdelkader, and re-insert Downey....What a 2 day span for some of these boys.
-
This is probably the first game all year that I'm actually worried about this team. With how they have been playing lately, and with our depleted list of forwards (due to injury and call-up), it might be ugly. Our defense needs to show up for the first time in quite a few games, and our goalies need to be as hot as they have been lately. Hopefully our offense gets a couple scores, too.
-
Oh man! Even better! Now that he is a wing, he will have friday off. Maybe he can find a wife.
-
Well he got called up today (along with Downey).

vs. Quad City Flames (16-19-5-3) @ Grand Rapids Griffins (26-9-6-3) The Griffins finally won a game in overtime, now they look ahead to Quad City. Quad City is coming off of a shutout loss to Milwaukee, while the Griffins have received points in their last 3 games (5 out of 6 points). Captain Darren Haydar has turned his play around, and has been playing his best hockey of late. The defense has had several mental flatulence's in the past few games, and Quad City will try and capitalize. Season Match-up: 11-18-2008: Grand Rapids 3 @ Quad City 1 Boxscore 01-23-2009: Quad City @ Grand Rapids 01-24-2009: Quad City @ Grand Rapids 02-04-2009: Grand Rapids @ Quad City Possible line-up: Leino - Abdelkader - Ritola Haydar - Emmerton - Tardif Lemeiux - Helm/Mursak/Pare*- McGrath Gagnon - Oulahen - Downey Kolosov - Pyett Stafford - Jozsa Kindl - Galvin Larsson Howard Scratches: Helm* Ericsson Mursak* Pare* *(One of the 3 forwards should hopefully be OK to play) Team Leaders: Goals Griffins: Haydar (16) Flames: Greentree (20) Assists Griffins: Leino (26) Flames: Lundmark(31) Points Griffins: Haydar (37) Flames: Lundmark(42) Penalty Minutes Griffins: Downey (69) Flames: Vandermeer (132) Notes Haydar is on a 3 game point streak (2G, 2A). The goalie duel is back with Howard having good outings the last few times. Pete Vandermeer is making his return to the Van Andel arena, after playing in Grand Rapids in the 04-05 campaign. The Griffins will wear a "throwback" jersey on Saturday 1/24, with an auction following the game.

Larsson started 1/23, Howard last night. Larsson was 34/35 (and 3/3 in the SO), Howard was 43/43 (and 5/5 in the SO!) That puts the Griffs net minders at 85/86 for the weekend. Imagine what our record would be this year if your goalies played as bad as our defense.
