    Griffins Red Jersey

Welcome to the AHL. That is very mild compared to some jerseys (Peoria has a nice CAT one, and there's another team with McDonald's).

I am glad Chicago is improving

Yep, and this makes it even EASIER to hate the 'hawks. http://nhlhomeice.com/wp/?p=1073

12/6 GDT: Hamilton Bulldogs 5 @ Grand Rapids Griffins 2

Kaser said there was a GVSU graduation at the arena, and they had to make sure the arena was "cleaned up" for the game.... hence the delayed start.

I wont make it tonight, so hopefully some of the faithful in the arena can give me a quick rundown.

    Chelios

He's coming to GR for Friday and Saturday night games. I wonder how much time he'll get.

    12/5 GDT: Toronto Marlies 3 @ Grand Rapids Griffins 2 - OT

The ice was bad, the team was worse. I don't know if they were nervous around Chelios, or what, but they stunk. I'm thinking that cumulative we got about 15 min of effort out of the entire club. The passes were off, the shots were few, from the outside, and off target. They didn't hit, they didn't fight for anything in the boards. Ericsson left in the 3rd, and never came back out. I hope he isn't out with anything serious. Chelios got beat 3 times, once he fell, the others was just a young kid with speed skating right by him. On the last one (in OT) Newburry beat him, Chelios hooked him so he wouldn't get a breakaway, and that was the call. The crowd was mad, but he did it. He used his head alot, so he wasn't caught out of position....he is just slow though. Larsson should have had some help tonight. He made some amazing saves, just to have his team stand there and watch. He got no support. He was the only one to try.

    new month = new captain

GR had a "rotating C" last year. We failed with a bad record, and out of the playoffs. Nope, don't need it. I like just 1 person being the Captain.

    intangibles

Emmerton really has turned his game around once he got real playing time. He's done nothing but make plays and hustle. He earned his spot in the line-up. Ericsson is a big help in the 3rd. He is able to keep players to the outside, and hold them up behind the net to waste more time. He played the entire game like that, he'd be in the NHL. I'd add Oulahen and Tardiff to the list of "unsung heroes". They fight in the corners and come up with the puck. They get back defensively to help out when Galvin chokes up and gets beat. They are generally the "3rd assist". I'd like to go even further and say the team disappointments. I expected more out of Haydar. He was in an interview with Chi-town and said he still thinks he can play in the NHL. Well on this team, he should be putting up big points then. He is a scorer, and well, he hasn't been doing that up to expectations. Another is Galvin. He is trying to make the play in the offensive zone, and getting burned in the defensive zone because of it. Forget the points, you're a D-MAN. Play your position. Ericsson (first, and second period) is on the list. He is uninspired, and lazy the first two periods. He has made bad passes on clearing attempts, and that all important first pass out of the zone. He seems to "go through the motions". I really believe he should be sat for a game (the flu symptoms game doesn't count), or moved to a different line. Put Kindl up on the first line. That would shake it up, too.

The only good thing is Chi-town is doing the same thing.

    Wake-up measures

Howard has been out-played in GR by Larsson. Yes, Howard has had 2 games now that have been good, but he's had too many bad ones to warrant a trip up to the RW's.

Every time Mursak is on the ice, I'm impressed by his speed. He really is THAT quick.

Not good. It started with alot of posturing, Downey went in, and scared the crap out of Hoffman. Once they started hugging, and fighting for position (and threw a couple punches), Hoffman got Downey's jersey up over his head, and the refs stepped in before it got real ugly. Downey had a bloody nose from it, definitely not a good show. Tardiff got jumped, and almost looked like he was in "protection" mode. His jersey also got pulled up over his head, and the refs let that one go longer. The team had a really good game, definitely one of the better ones all year. I dont know how the first CHI goal was scored, but the second wasn't a lapse by anybody, just a good goal. Both teams played hard, and it was just a great game. Everybody just played really well.
  14. So how do I get to "download" it? When I click on the link, it goes to an error because I don't have permission to view...thing.
  15. Well here's one man's opinion on the game. First of all, the team played great in spurts. We absolutely kicked butt in the 5-on-3, with Howard able to see everything and our guys keeping them to the outside. Gagnon then gets out of the box, he knocks the pass down and puts it in. The place went crazy. I'm sick of this team only able to get 1 point out of their games. They can dominate if they played the whole time, and got a lucky bounce. These 1 point games aren't getting us closer to the other teams ahead of us. Ritola had a really nice game, along with Leino. They were making things happen, and getting back defensively. Kindl and Ericsson must have had good nights, cause I didnt notice anything real bad from either of them. They used the boards to clear pucks, and played pretty solid. Abdelkader didn't hit quite as many people (or as hard) as normal, but he still had a decent game. He almost put one in during the third, but deflected it just wide. He needs to crash the net more, and deflect everything. He is REALLY good at doing that, so why not try it more often? This ref called a horribly biased game. Everything we did was a penalty, but they could do nothing wrong. It was just ridiculous, especially the 5-on-3 call.
  16. Atherton has been sent down, and Gelech has been recalled by the Wings (they are going to ship him to Rochester I guess).

    Lions Parking

So I'm going out for my first Lions game on Thanksgiving day. I was wondering where the good/safe/easy parking spots are? I've only every parked in the JLA parking garage..so any help is appreciated.
  19. So I had a long night, any my first post had a major error in it. The baby pens did score on a PP in the 3rd. I think it was a 5-on-3, too. There were bad calls, and include the loss, and a long night...I'm bound to make atleast one mistake. I think Larsson did really well though. He made alot of big saves..and basically FORCED them to beat him. He wasn't letting in any soft goals. Both goalies (WBS and Larsson) played really well last night. It's too bad the game ended how it did. I think Jimmy needs to start worrying about playing time if he doesn't have a helluva start soon.
  20. That game was just depressing. We should have won, and a shootout loss just doesn't sit right. We had a LOT of scoring chances and nothing to show. The ref did make some bad calls, but no goals were scored on them, so it is moot tonight. Our D didn't play that bad. Ericsson seemed to play for most of the game, instead of taking the first 2 periods off. Kindl had a great game, making a couple nice defensive plays. I'd like to see Ericsson and Kindl switch their D pairing, just as a way to compare. Kindl is getting burned by his partner, it'd be nice to see what Ericsson could do in some situations like that. Ritola had another good game. He back checked well, and saved a PP goal in the first. They made a nice cross ice pass, that gave them a wide open net. Ritola got his stick on it at the last second, which caused a good "rush" up the ice for us. Helm is getting the breaks that Abdelkader got in the first month of the season. Abdelkader can't buy a goal right now, and Helm is just getting the bounces. It's good to see him get some points, because he has worked hard and had nothing to show for it. Larsson needs work on shootouts. He doesn't challenge the shooter, and gets burned. Out of the 4 or 5 people that shot, 2 went in, and the rest hit the post. He wasn't able to stop anything. He needs alot of work on that.

11/16 GDT: Grand Rapids Griffins vs. Milwaukee Admirals

Well Round 4 is tonight. If the Griffins lose this, they are 0-4 against Milwaukee this year.

And yet he hasn't fought at home. I want to see him light someone up. It's now 5 - 4 Milwaukee. We made it close. Let's see if we can finish it off. 3 goals in 57 sec for us.

11/16 GDT: Grand Rapids Griffins vs. Milwaukee Admirals

What will it cost for the Griffins to buy a game from Milwaukee? I'm sick of losing to them. It's 3 - 0 right now, Ian Croft (the ref vs Hartford) is in, which is sucks too.

This is the only way to watch it that I am aware of: http://ahl.neulion.com/team/console.jsp Unfortunately it costs $6 a game.

You had me second guessing myself, too. I was driving home thinking "Ritola had a good game"...then after your comment I was like "Maybe we got a new #18"... Good to know it was just us.
