I actually believe an argument can be made that fighting may in some cases improve another area of the game, like reduce cheap shots. I don't know for certain if that's true, but the players themselves have talked about. My issue is that I think it's time we found another solution to these problems that's not so stupid as fighting.

Unfortunately I didn't drink much during college because the alcohol I was exposed to tasted so bad I ignorantly assumed it all did, (a shame too with Founders right in my neighborhood!!). It's was those crazy Blue Jacket fans in Columbus and Arrogant Bastard drinkers in California that got me hooked on beer for a while. Now I live in the Houghton area and don't drink at all since we had our first child this year. When things settle down I'll hopefully have time to indulge once in a while.

Well you are of course right that hockey is entertainment, but that doesn't service the point in anyway. We are discussing hockey and how things affect hockey, not the world first and how hockey affects the world. A pointless fight that in no way benefits the game isn't worth the risk, this is hockey in a bubble now. Activities outside of hockey that can be risky are also either not allowed (like playing recreational hockey) or frowned upon. There are some things outside of the hockey bubble that for various reasons are worth the risk of injury, like charity or the Olympics. I don't believe these are comparable to a fight because they benefit the interests of the NHL and the community. The fight did nothing for anyone and hurt a player. This of course is not just a debate we're having but one we regularly see between the various concerned parties with a vested interest in the league. Well I went to Echo's defense over an anti fighting point and like always I allowed it to snowball out of control, and I think if he didn't miss a game as a result it's not as big an issue, so admittedly the circumstances permitted a jumping off point for a broader discussion. But yeah, I obviously don't like fighting.

This is a little off point, the benefits of a charity game and arguably the Olympics are what makes those risks worth it, there are exactly zero benefits of a fight so it may not be worth the risk. And as far as riding a motorcycle, I don't know exactly how dangerous that is but when I played in high school I was not allowed to go skiing or play any sport recreationally that could endanger my participation on the team. That was high school, and I sucked. A lot.

Well I would've cared if he fought but I realize I'm a mamby pamby liberal who wets my bed and teaches my son he has a ****** and what not. But seriously I just think it's pointless, they're grown men though and can make their own decisions.

Where'd you get your other? I went to central for a bit too but ended up finishing at gvsu and I'm not sure why haha.

I love sequences like the Tatar goal where Daniels is saying how the Jets don't give up much and as if on cue they turn it over and Daniels calls it perfectly.
-
I agree with you if only because I recognize what your desired outcome of that action is, but where we differ is I wish to see another result.

As detailed above, it was unnecessary because it served no purpose therefore just theatrical. I'm certainly not going to defend trash talk either, and as far as the respect part I'm not sure what you mean.

LGWs is such an emotional roller coaster.
-
Well that's not exactly what I was saying, but I'll accept that without offense as explaining how things aren't that black and white seems futile. I'd rather them stop the game for that than a fight, the point is if they avoided the unnecessary fight the game wouldn't stop at all for pointless theatrics.

The whole "rolling over and taking it like a female body part (that is what you said right, the censor makes it difficult)" is an artificial construct, the meaning you're assigning to it doesn't exist in any tangible way. I think it's more honorable to turn the other cheek (to borrow a phrase from someone I don't believe in) but that to isn't really the best argument either. I personally believe that we as a species are intelligent enough to start finding other methods of solving problems than "PUNCH HIM IN THE FACE!!" But this could go on and on..... No, that's not the same at all.

Again, the team needs him tonight and he's not there
-
It's selfish because now we're without a good defenseman because he put his own needs above the team's. That's actually the definition of selfish.
-
It should be an argument against all fighting:). One of many!
-
I think they understand it's part of the game, they just don't want it to be. And its 'part of the game' like hooking is part of the game.

I never got the impression that was Weiss' attitude. He may be fragile but from all accounts he seems to working hard.

I like it, it has a beautiful post post-modernist nouveau sensibility. Please keep doing them.

Wings great Gordie Howe resting after 'serious stroke'
Mckinley25 replied to DatsyukianDekes's topic in General
To be fair I don't believe that's remotely close to what he was saying, but it's difficult no matter what and I don't know that there's a right answer. We've been dealing with a similar situation the past few years with my grandma who had Alzheimer's and dementia. She passed a few weeks ago and while sad, it was quite a relief. I hoped that she wasn't aware enough to be in pain, but with the limited communication it's impossible to know. She used to say all the time that if she ever got that way to kill her, but it's not that easy and in interim between the condition's onset and natural death everyone suffers, we are fragile beings and that can be hard to accept. I hope Gordie is not suffering, that's the best you can ask for. -
He's got one goal so far tonight.
-
I think the answer is cleverly (or not so) veiled in the recurring phrase "it's not the NBA or NFL...." or soccer to throw off the scent.

Are you implying that Subban is more deserving of a "head cleaning" than Lucic? I'd love to hear the rational behind that.
-
I believe he was drafted as a forward too, but it's been awhile.

This is the game I'm happy to get a point out of, not Buffalo or NY. -
