It's definitely a black mark on the league. The continued press is certainly something theyd liked to have avoided. Though it's not like it's on CNN or anything. -

These are great points, but whats the answer then? Its not like Washington was in a better place to win then we were before July 1st. Is it Babcock? We've all heard he's not pleasant. Or is it just everyone is sick of Detroit being good? Or a combination of a lot of things?

It's probably not just one thing. Certainly Holland has made a few mistakes, then there's the league's efforts to bring parity, the departure of Lidstrom, etc. Dynasties dont last forever.

Generally you over pay but when the FA's have no interest in money you're screwed.

Well I agree, but it certainly goes both ways, everything is speculative until Holland or Ehrhoff spill details but we both praise and condemn as if there is full transparency.

Even the cup winning Kings had centers with these numbers: Kopitar. 70pts Carter. 50 Richards 41 I don't know if they played center exclusively or how many games they played, but I think balanced scoring across the roster is more important.

I guess I would've asked about the same for lidstrom, if not more. (Not saying they are comparable.)

I don't get to watch a lot of non red wings, is Yandle that good?

They've had a top 10 pick in 7 of the last 8 drafts including 3 #1s in a row and the year they drafted outside the top 10 they still snagged Eberle in the 1st round. If they don't become a legitimate dynasty in the next five years the system is broken!

Any early predictions on who will be bad enough to land McDavid? If Florida could pull it off they'd have a nice start on a solid future.

At the time of the trade he was leading the league in points though he didn't finish that high. While we didn't get a cup with him I thought it was a smart trade.

Agreed, some of the best moves we made over the years were trades. Shannahan, Hasek, Igor, Lang, Stuart, Chelios etc. Though it was exciting when Cujo signed with us.
