my Fiance is from Detroit (yes, wings fan), she moved down here two years ago and her parents moved here last year, So i've heard all about how horrible the Michigan economy is. lats time I was up there I was listening to a radio show and they were talking about other than someone who has a great job, why would anyone else want to stay there? and the majority of the responses were that you get 4 seasons there... eek, if that's the best reason to stay, then things are really bad. my $20 tix are in the front half of the upper bowl. There's one price level below mine that are like $15. I think on the glass is $105 or something.

Ken Holland on the Jim Rome Show: (paraphrasing) -On post season failures and how nice last night was: “It’s always nice to get off to a nice start, but last night was really importantâ€Â; “Winning at home is important, but they will have to win on the road at some point†-On physical play: “The Wings tried to get grittier and bigger, last year was the first time for a lot of guys and the Edmonton series will help them this year†-On losing the leadership core: “I hoped that Yzerman would have played one more year, we got off to a rocky start but the people who needed to step up, stepped up†-On goaltending and picking up Hasek: “We explored a lot of different options and Dom has been everything we hoped for, he came into camp 10 lbs lighter and has done more stretching before and after practice†-On Datsyuk’s postseason play: “We’re happy for Pavel to get off to a good start last night, last year he hadn’t played or practice before the playoffs and before that he was always behind Yzerman and Fedorov†-On Chelios’ accomplishments: “Chelios is an incredible athlete, great passion and work ethic with a tremendous love for the game, wouldn’t be surprised if he played until age 50 if his minutes are limited†-On postseason failures (again): “In the last three series the opposition goalie was amazing, the wings have to be grittier and try to score more “playoff goalsâ€Â, Babcock has tried to get his guys to go to the net more, hopefully it pays off this yearâ€Â

if there's no interuptions for me, i'll give a recap here after it's over. ...rome is saying bottom of the hour now. so it might be 10:50.

radio. 10:30 detroit time. you can get it online if you pay for the podcast or if you find a site that streams it. I don't know of any particular as I listen live on radio, but I know they exist, just find a site of one of the affiliates and you're bound to find one that does live streaming. I think you can stream it Here but i'm not sure.

find the posts in here where I did that and i'll concede, but so far all i've done here is contratulate the wings on a nice win and defend the issues of not selling out and the cleary "running the goalie" thing. Nice try though, you and gordie might want to take a look at who is really out for anything possible to rip on someone.

i'd think that offering 700 tickets as $20 walk up singles would be a lot better than reading all day about a non-sellout. It's a silly story because everyone knows that there's no attendance problem in Detroit, but that's the state of the NHL right now that any tiny negative story about Attendance is going to get blown up. Trust me, we have a legit problem here, but it's still nowhere near as bad as the anti-NHL media makes it out to be.
-
are people missing the fact that i'm on the Wings side of these issues? or was my post too much reading for your comprehension level?
-
i'm surprised that they didn't do something to get rid of those 700 extra tickets. That's not very many. I know sometimes if the Preds are within a couple hundred of selling out on game day, they'll offer any single ticket for $20. That's only when there aren't anymore groups (2 or more seats together) available. Or some corporation could step up and get those 700 tickets. I don't know, seems like there had to be some way to push 700 tickets. Unless it was actually worse than that and they did push a lot of tickets and just couldn't manage that last 700. Who knows, anyone here have a connection with ticket sales that could shed some light on it?

haha. I'm not trying to be a troll, but yall have NO IDEA how funny this thread has become to me. Most of all, that there is discussion about Detroit not selling out a playoff game. Obviously I can't criticize, because my team did the same thing last season. But dang, after all the crap that we've gotten from Wings fans over the years about attendance, and then they go and pull something like this? awesome! (seriously, I know the tickets are outrageous and people are skeptical of the first round at this point). And the Cleary thing. The replay I saw showed Cleary headed towards Kipper (who was actually halfway outside of the crease anyway) he didn't see Kipprusoff, but then he DID look up and see him, then duck his head down and go full on into him with his shoulder. So he knew that he was going to hit him hard, he ducked his head in anticipation. Now, if this was a preds or flames player who did this to a wings goalie, there would be so much hell being raised on here about how he knew he was going to hit him, and he's a dirty SOB and that kind of stuff doesn't belong in the game, bla, bla, bla. BUT, can't really blame him, he didn't really have time to change course, so the only thing he could do was duck his head and just bowl him over. Just wanted to point out how it would have been viewed if it was the other way around though. you didn't sell out... hehehe. [/trolling mode]

very solid game by the Wings. This series is going to be over in a hurry if the flames can't muster any more offense than that. The Wings showed that they can not only stand up to Calgary's physical play, but totally match it. Kipper looked bad tonight, and the flames pulled out their usual goon squad tactics. I hate the flames

other than dominating the game 5-on-5? stay out of the box and the Preds take this series. they had penalty problems last night and still managed to go to double-OT. If the Preds Flower Play ever starts clicking, there's no stopping them.

I think he's put on some more weight actually. Some games I watch and see him up there sweating I get seriously concerned for his health. Pete's cool though, every now and then he'll pop up on the preds boards and update us on a pressing concern, he reads them all the time, only posts once in a while though. Still, I doubt many other commentators around the league are so connected to their fans.

one reason i've been thinking about for their huge bias is, as I said, they are obviously employees of the Predators. The situation is a little different here though. They came into a non-traditional market with an expansion team. So i'm sure somewhere in there, was an order that they try to play up the Predators, try to get the Preds into favor with the locals. If they had called the game objectively then a lot of people in those early seasons would have went away with more of an impression that the team just stank. But instead, most people believed in those first seasons that the Preds were one of the hardest working teams in the league, and were not your typical expansion team, that they were close to being competitive and they got picked on a lot by refs for being an expnansion club. For any long time fans, they knew that the team was bad. But for casual fans getting their first taste of NHL hockey, maybe some of them came away feeling good about their team and became big fans during the past few seasons that the team has blossomed. I also think that if that was their objective in the early years, it would be easy for them to fall into that character and keep it up for 10 years, it's probably magnified even moreso now that the team is actually good. I don't know, i'm probably just pulling excuses out of my butt, but it's just something i've been thinking about.

I didn't agree with their assessment on that one. If they wanted to put a positive spin on that, they could have said that it was a necessary penalty or something. But he clearly interfered with Thornton. like I was just explaining to someone on the flyers boards. Pete and Terry are an aquired taste. I can understand why the people who don't listen to them every day would have a hard time taking a liking to them if they only watch once in a while. But having met them both (only brief encounters at the arena), and hearing them every day on the radio away from the games I can say that these guys are great. Pete Weber is an all-sports guy, he can talk baseball, football, basketball, hockey, racing and probably any other sport you wanted to talk. And Terry Crisp is an old school hockey guy who has a million stories from his days with the broad street bullies, expansion blues and his years coaching calgary and tampa. I know that a lot of people around the league consider them to be among the worst tandems out there, but I also know that they're both huge preds fans and it's just a matter of opinion weather someone considers that a good thing or a bad thing. FWIW, they don't do the radio broadcasts anymore. Eli Gold and Jim McKenzie are doing those and do a wonderful job. They've definitely brought a different perspective than we've ever had in Nashville.

ouch, so if i'm reading correctly, i'm... Lame ******* Stupid Pathetic and a ****** kind of like you're response to me I suppose.
-
I think Cheechoo lost his tooth when he hit the ice. A lot of opinions are being formed on Ron Wilson's bitching in the press, but surely people have heard Wilson's crybaby act enough not to rush to judgement based on what he says.
-
was more of a response to everyone. I try not to single anyone out, but sometimes i'll use a quote from a specific person to summarize what a lot of people are saying.
-
I actually think there could be something to that. There is a club policy at least among coaching and front office staff of not saying anything negative publicly. I think it's a pretty lame policy that needs to go. They should be able to sack up and criticize something once in a while. edit: I think it rubs off on the fans too. I mean, people here might think i'm a preds homer, but you should see the people who never knew hockey before '98.
-
nice post Arin. Maybe it's because I was raised a Flyers fan that I don't think the preds are a dirty team. But I think it's just a little ironic that just about the only place you read day in and day out about how dirty the Predators are is on this board.
-
here's some food for though... They were hired by the Predators, to do broadcasts to the Preds local market. We're not talking about a national broadcast (unless you have CI). Every team has homer announcers. And to say Crisp is an idiot for missing on Hull, I guess he's the only coach/gm in the history of sports to miss on a player. Your arguments are brilliant.
-
do you have this lengthy list for everyone to see? or is it just too much for us to handle?
-
because Terry Crisp and his 3 cups don't know anything about hockey...
-
how many here have actually seen the play? If you have seen it, and don't think that Cheechoo ducked and dragged his back leg which led to the knee on knee, then you just can't make a clear judgemental call. He was obviously going to lay cheechoo out, but to say he went in there looking for an intentional knee on knee hit is stupid. glad to see that the redwing homers are getting so worked up that they're lumping Hartnell into the useless category. he's a 20-25 goal guy every season. +19 this season. but yeah, I guess he's just another in a long line of Preds worthless goons who has a list of injury victims longer than the great wall of china.
