wow, better response than I anticipated! I'm glad that more people are interested, I think that will make it easier to stick with it

Yeah, i want to get back to 180-190. I'm around 220-225 right now. 6'-1" I was wearing size 34 pants two years ago. now i'm buying 38 with the stretchy waistbands and I still don't button them most of the time. plus i'm always too tired to go out and do stuff like hockey and disc golf.

Unusual amount of Playoff tickets still remain
Legionnaire11 replied to Mighty Wings's topic in General
I think my playoff tickets are about $20 each... -
Not trivia really. Just a question, but it should be fun research. Has any player ever won the cup with three different teams? Four? How many players (and possibly who) in the expansion era, made the playoffs every season of their career? (min. 10 seasons) How many players (and possibly who) in the expansion era, never made the playoffs in their career? (min. 10 seasons)

All SEC fans hate each other. But, when it comes down to post season play, they all root for the SEC. Even if it means pulling for your arch rival. Kinda cool actually.

as an outsider, i've stayed away from commenting too much on individual players or the inner workings of the Wings. But if I can throw something into this. I think most of the problems with Robert Lang are unrealistic expectations. How many people here have really looked at Lang and who he has been over his career? He had ONE season ever where he averaged a point per game. That was the season that the Wings got him at the deadline. Other than that he only had one other season that was close to that level. A handful of other decent seasons and then a lot of mediocrity. Too many people here judge him on the season that he first came to Detroit and not on his career as a whole. When you hold a player to expectations based on one uncharacteristic season, then it's basically impossible for the guy to ever impress anyone again. I do realize that he gets paid a lot, and that's a lot of the problem. But you can't blame Lang for that, he had a great season and was fortunate enough to turn it into a big payday. If you want to blame anyone, blame the organization for giving him that contract based on one career year.

those quotes confirm what I suspected. The team wasn't as sharp as they should be heading into the playoffs, maybe some guys are getting lazy as the season winds down, taking shifts off or whatnot. But putting the GM behind the bench makes every player 100x more accountable. They always are, but there's just something different when they guy who writes your contracts is in the stands and when he's behind the bench. Brodeur talks about it in his book about the last time that Lou took over the coaches seat and how much pressure it put on all of the guys to perform.

I grew up a Penn State fan. And then moved down here to SEC country. While I don't really claim any SEC schools (I guess i'm a vandy fan but MTSU is my main team), I have to admit, the SEC blows away the Big Ten

It'll be tougher, but they'll get someone. Lewis is on the hot seat right? Trotz too. That would be a lethal combination. Trotz is a defensive coach, going to the devils would be a perfect fit. Burns is probably a frontrunner as well. Then again, Lou could take up the position for the full season.
-
if it's any other GM i'd say they're crazy. But with Lou, you just have to wait and watch because anything can happen. This guy has been the GM of the Devils for a long time and done as good with his franchise as any other franchise in the league since he's been there. Even if this move bombs, they'll find another coach in the offseason, lou will move back up to the front office and the Devils will be right there at the front of the pack again.

way to read the entire thread

if the chanting makes people upset, wait until tomorrow night. Tootoo coming off of suspension vs the Stars. Word is that the Tootoo whistles will be in full force. Usually there are 3-5 whistles at the games (you might have heard them), but tomorrow night there is supposedly going to be many, many more.

Abel, because everyone else is going to say Delvecchio.

because I don't like them. not that i really like any of the teams in canada other than maybe the habs a little. But I especially dislike Vancouver. maybe it's the uniforms or something. I did like them in the 90's when they wore the skate uniforms, had Mclean and Bure, Linden was the captain. but Bertuzzi, the sedin's, cloutier and the current uniforms (even the retros) I just never liked. and besides, getting rid of Vancouver would mean the western canada swing was only 2 games!
-
Hmmm... it could be any of Florida, Phoenix, Anaheim, Atlanta or Washington from the States. And either Ottawa or Vancouver in Canada. I'll say Atlanta, and Ottawa.

you're spending too much time on our boards man...

It's kind of hard to explain. It's like switching schools, or moving to a new town. You never like it at first, but the more you get to know the people, and the little nuances, the more you appreciate it. That's kind of how I see fanbases of pro-sports teams. I hear how horrible Nashville fans are all the time, and what a classless organization we have, and I just don't see it. But before I started reading LGW, I really wasn't very fond of Wings fans either. I thought it was a bunch of bandwagoners, and I thought the Wings were the Yankees of the NHL. But with time, I realized that there are a lot of great Wings fans, and that you've got an awesome orginization. If anyone who criticizes Nashville came and spent some time here, came in with an open mind (thats the key in most areas of life) and took a look at what's going on here, you might just find a bunch of great people who love their team in a wonderful city that hosts a pretty darned good franchise. Sure our coach looks like a troll, and our color commentator seems to be drunk during every broadcast. We've got an inuit running around hitting everything that moves, a goalie who looks like a terrorist and another like a caveman. And we've got some chants in our arena that you won't find in too many pro sports venues... but that's who we are, and I don't think anyone who seriously takes the time and effort to find out what Predators hockey is about could possibly come away with so much criticism.
-
haha, I was thinking that. What the largest arena right now? about 21,000? 35 would be crazy. They better have a nice video board because that's the only way the people in the upper deck will be able to watch the game.

If you're ever in Nashville during hockey season, hit me up for some tickets and i'll introduce you to a lot of great fans :chug:

if EVERYTHING is bigger in Texas, I would assume that includes Skulls
-
it's understandable though, you have to grow them thicker to keep your brains warm during the michigan winters very strange.. with our 27-7-4 home record.
-
But i'm one of the ones who taunts at every opportunity and fully enjoy telling even the best of the best that they suck. I've tried more than once to explain to LGW why the rest of the league sucks, but it never works.
-
I thought it was pretty lame. But I wouldn't expect anyone here to actually understand anyway...

and trust me, a lot of the fans here STILL think that the Preds have no problems. That we'll be just fine in the playoffs. That the Preds don't have any problems winning the big games. It gets old sometimes hearing all the excuses that are made down here for why the Preds can't beat the Wings when it matter, and have amassed a terrific 3-8 record in the playoffs. and I hate to knock my team. But sometimes facts are facts.
-
Well, we taunt EVERY goalie. Even if we were losing 10-0 and scored a meaningless goal in the last minute, we'd still do the goalie chant. I really doubt that ANY goalie in the league gets rattled by it if they even notice it. The main chanting section is at the complete opposite end of the ice that the Preds shoot twice against, and i've sat right behind the goal and you really can't hear what they're saying. Heck, my usual seats are just a couple sections away from them and while it's easy to make out most of the chants, if they break out a new one, I usually can't understand what they're saying. And for the record, it's no longer the Gaylord Entertainment Center. It's just the Nashville Arena once again. Gaylord pulled their sponsorship a long time ago, but allowed the Preds to keep their name on the building (how thoughtful), but this season it's been an off and on thing, some people still called it gaylord, some called it the arena, or the BOB(barn on broadway), or the HOP(house of the predators). But in the last week or two, the Predators have really been pushing Nashville Arena and do anything and everything to avoid the name Gaylord. There is much speculation that this is because of an imminent deal with a large auto manufacturer who is moving their corporate headquarters to Nashville (look it up for which one) for the naming rights on the building. It's supposed to be anywhere from a 5-10 year deal. So anyone who thought that the situation here was actual as poor as the canadian media would have you believe, you are mistaken and signing a 10 year deal proves it. The Preds are in Nashville for the long haul, corporate support is coming around slowly, youth hockey is building slowly and attendance is improving. Not that most of that had to do with Ozzie, he played a magnificent game last night, and really has had the Preds number all season. Don't flame, because i'm not looking to start any arguments, just stating some facts.
