    book titles you'll never see...

a little late to the party, too many pages to read, so I hope i'm not repeating any... "White Like Lilja" - Peter Worrell "10 Secrets that every successful shootout goalie knows" - Tomas Vokoun

    TooToo's attempted Check

Great stat I honestly didn't realize how much Avery used to fight. We're told all the time that Tootoo will develop into more of a scorer, he's done it on every other level. Not sure he'll ever be put into the right situation to do it in the NHL though. dang, that was a horrible response. I'm ashamed of having anyone in the Predators fanbase that would say something like that, unfortunately there are more than a few.

The rules naturally have to change. Players are bigger and faster, coaching strategies change, goaltending styles change. I mean, taking a trip on the way-back machine, you'll find a time when there were no forward passes allowed in hockey. But the game was boring and in order to compete with other sports, they had to get more scoring to generate interest in the game... Sounds familiar. Anyway, sure there are a lot of newbies here. But there are also a heck of a lot of northern transplants in the south now. It really hasn't been that long, you have to give these things time. If anyone really expected to put a franchise in Nashville, or Phoenix, or Tampa and have their fanbase rival the existing teams, then that person never had a chance to be satisfied with the new teams anyway. a side note. The Preds are ranked 23rd in the league in Attendance, why is it that we're so often mentioned as the team that needs to move? Also, if we sold out every single game, we would still only be ranked 16th. Would people still complain? Probably, because we'd be in the bottom half. What if we were among the league leaders in attendance? Wouldn't we still get complaints from bitter fans who hate seeing a southern franchise ranked above theirs? And last, I don't understand why people complain anyway. On one hand, you say that the market is bad, nobody knows hockey, nobody cares about the game... and then on the other hand, you rip us and say that we should have higher attendance, as if you're surprised that we're at the bottom. Which is it?

    Only in Detroit

one of my roller hockey teams used to practice in this church parking lot that had a big island in the middle of it... really limited your space at center ice lol. Funny too because the minister told us we could practice out there(one guy on the team went to his church) and we were fine for a month, and then one day he decided to call the cops and say that he never gave us permission.

    The Las Vegas Penguins?

I don't think an Arena would be an issue in Vegas, that's a town that knows how to get a big project built fast. If it couldn't happen, then I doubt they would even be talking about it. But Kansas City is offering a pretty sweet deal, it might be hard to pass up on that one.

    TooToo's attempted Check

You can't just have skill players in hockey. There has to be tough guys to keep the game balanced. Otherwise you end up with cheap shot after cheap shot, players slicing each other up with sticks and other nonsense that the tough guys keep in check. Sure they aren't as skilled, and they do their fair share of dirty plays, but it's a lot better than the alternative. Probably in '95 or '96 I saw a guy from the capitols go all the way over into the Flyers bench, they were kicking him, punching him and hitting him with their sticks. They would not let him get up out of there until the ref came over. It was actually a lot funnier and a lot less violent than I make it sound, it was like a scene out of slapshot or something.

I always thought he would be good for the role of "The Penguin" if they ever used him in a batman movie again. We know he has no neck, and he does weird stuff with his eyebrows... we like it.

The Tennessean doesn't tell the whole truth though. In fact Leipold was on the radio that same day because he was so irate about that article coming out. It was just supposed to be a casual lunch, off the record with the reporter. They were talking about corporate support and Leipold suggested that maybe it's because he's from Milwaukee and that maybe if he sold a minority ownership (40%) to local investors, then the local business community would more quickly come back around to supporting the team... two days later, the headline in the paper suggests that Leipold is selling and the team could be moving. People are pulling all of these clauses out of the contract that have been there since day 1. And now with attendance on the rise for the last two seasons, moving farther and farther away from these figures that would allow them to trigger the clauses, it's hardly the time for fans to panic and overreact. I'm not worried about the team leaving. I'm not worried about Leipold exercising options that would cause bad blood between the team and the city. And Predators fans who are here and know the whole story aren't worried either. The only people making noise about this are in the traditional markets who can't stand to see our team doing so well. I mean, attendance was pretty crappy during the seasons that we weren't making the playoffs, but it was never this big of a story. Now that we're good, people want to try to drag us through the mud. Whatever, i'll take that tradeoff any day of the week.

    TooToo's attempted Check

Biggest difference between Tootoo and Avery... Avery bumps his gums a lot and then turtles, Tootoo actually drops the gloves. He's done some things in his career that i'm not proud of, but he's hardly on Avery's level. And he's not afraid to go with anyone. Plus you have to love that kid's heart. Has anyone seen the VS special about the Tootoo brothers? and that missed check was something. I haven't seen a guy go into the opponents bench in a long time.

oh yeah, because i'm sure you were just born with a complete knowledge of hockey, all the rules, and history. And you have never in your life needed to ask someone a question, or look something up, or just watch and learn. Sooooooooo Sorry that there are new fans here and that we have information available to them to help learn the game. You're right, it's pretty stupid. I mean, we have attendance issues, and people don't know the game... so it makes absolutely no sense at all to try and help people out with understanding hockey and maybe getting them in the doors.

    The Las Vegas Penguins?

I don't see Vegas as a bad thing. First of all, we know that Gambling drives sports, it's one of the biggest reasons that the NFL and College Football have gained so much popularity because they're good betting sports. To have the NHL actually IN Vegas would definitely open up eyes to the sport in the gambling rings. Second, the casinos would buy up all the tickets and use them as freebies for their guests. it's a small investment for such large businesses, and they're always looking for any small way to entice people to stay at their casino. the bad thing would be, even though the tickets are sold, people might not go to the games. They wouldn't have a true "home crowd", just folks who are in town and decide to catch a game while they're there. And the biggest issue would be keeping the players in line. Every road trip that teams take to Vegas has the potential for big time bad news. gambling, hookers, drugs. They'd have to keep a tight leash on the players.

cite some sources on it buddy. Attendance is up and the only place you'll ever hear about the Preds moving are on rumor sites. Nothing has ever been said by the franchise about moving, only by media sources who speculate on such things. Maybe you're confusing Predators with Penguins, who ARE currently talking to other cities about relocation. You have no idea what you're talking about. The Preds have never averaged lower than 12,000. We're near 15,000 right now actually. The clause is about the city subsidizing the team's revenue, not about them moving. The attendance issue is with the NHL and it has to do with revenue sharing and how much we get. We have to meet certain attendance marks to recieve full revenue sharing, and if we don't, then the % that we can recieve goes down. I believe the goal to recieve 100% revenue sharing funds is 14,200 next season. The predators are not moving. Craig Leipold has said this over, and over, and over again. He is an honest man, and so far in 9 years with this franchise everything he has ever said he would do, he has done. He says that he has NEVER spoken to any other city about relocating, he hasn't even ever BEEN to Kansas City. He's only interested in building the best franchise he can build in Nashville.

Actually, most of us were happy to get out of that game with a point. We know that the preds played a terrible game and didn't deserve the point in the standings. But we'll take it.

i've read it on here, Wings fans concerned about some of his hits, leaving his feat and all and him getting a reputation of being a dirty player. I mean, he doesn't have a reputation yet, but there's certainly the possibility that he becomes a Kasparitis type of d-man. Not that there's anything wrong with that when he's on your team, but as an opponent you don't want to face him. and as for dirty play... What about the last matchup between these two. Chelios put an elbow right into Tootoo's mouth, and the only thing being said on here about that was "Hahaha, Tootoo deserves it"... But of course, Arnott is dirty and drove lebda's head into the boards, practically split his head open with that vicious elbow right in the temple...

3/6 GDT: Predators @ Red Wings

I said the preds WAS worse. But not anymore, we got back two guys, and you guys lost Holmstrom. Either way you look at it, both teams are hurting bad right now. It sucks that we could get these teams fully healthy this month with so many games head to head.

Vokoun hasn't been the best shootout goalie. He gives up at least one 5-hole goal in every shootout. He's more of a reaction goalie than a positional one, so while he's great during regular play, he's kind of weak in a one-on-one situation.

we pronounce our towns wrong down here too though. I mean, it's spelled Nashville... Nash... Ville. Pretty easy. But it always ends up Nayashuhville. And I can't ever seem to grasp when to pronounce a town with a Ville or a Vulle. Nashville is pronounced with a Ville. But Knoxville is pronounced with a Vulle. And Louisville... wow. Loovull. How does that happen? Crispy drinks a lot more than Yzerman

plus, not that it justifies Nichol at all. But he had that happen to him before, and ended up going head first into the end boards, he was lucky not to have broken his back. So, he took even more exception to the hit than most players would. Still should have taken an extra step and got in front of Spacek to confront him.

Can't really knock it, without the point for OTL, Preds would be 4 points ahead instead of 1.

Apparantly Spacek doesn't know anything about squaring up and dropping the gloves. Nichol shouldn't have hit him, that was a horrible act. BUT how does Spacek upend Nichol into the post like that, and then not even turn around? He has to know that someone is coming for him. It's true, there are a lot of times when Preds fans complain on the boards about Crispy being in love with the Wings and being Biased for them. I never see it, but some people apparantly think so. It was bad enough a few weeks ago that Pete Weber actually had to come onto the message boards to defend Terry Crisp and let everyone know that the Wings are not Crispy's favorite team. Funny because everyone in Detroit pronounces it wrong anyway if you want to be technical. Founded by the French and pronounced Deh-Twa

You put your arm out there to keep a guy from slipping out of the check. You people act like he actually went elbow first into Lebdas head and drove it into the glass. In reality, he came in for the check, tried to get his arm in front of Lebda to make sure he was able to finish the check, and it came up and got Lebda in the head while he was falling down. It could have easily been a no call, so stop acting like Jason Arnott is scum of the earth for head hunting.

3/6 GDT: Predators @ Red Wings

Sullivan and Hartnell are tied for the team lead in goal scoring. Forsberg is... Forsberg. And then we lost our best faceoff guy (Nichol) in the first, and Zidlicky in the second. I'd say that the teams injury situation is about equal right now. Preds was worse, but we got Legwand and Arnott back last night.

no doubt about that one. And I like the Grizzlies. I don't get into that whole Nashville vs Memphis thing, I like both cities and I hope both do well for the sake of Tennessee. I hoped that Jerry West would turn that franchise around, but it doesn't seem to be so, his player moves are questionable at best. But for anyone who thinks the Preds have trouble in non-traditional Nashville, check out the Grizzlies in Memphis, and that OUGHT to be a good basketball town.

it could happen if the Preds ever moved. But we're not big enough at the moment to support 3 teams. Plus fans are really fickle around here, there are even a lot of empty seats when the titans are doing poorly. I couldn't imagine trying to fill a 30,000 seat baseball stadium for 81 games a season in this town. We like our minor league team, Nashville Sounds. They draw a pretty decent crowd, I think 7,500 per game or something around that. We're supposed to be getting a new stadium built for them on the riverfront down town, but it's been delayed so much, now there are questions about funding. I really think that if we ever got a baseball team, it would be almost the same situation as the Preds are in right now. There are so many Braves fans in the area, they'd struggle for attendance and then sell out every braves game. And the true nashville fans would end up hating the one who root for nashville all season until the braves show up. but overall, it's not really ever on the table for discussion until the Preds are gone. Which is hopefully NEVER.

It's usually hard to find a good broadcast. Vancouver's guys are pretty good. But usually you'll either find very homerish calls, or if a guy is trying to be un-biased, it ends up being a bland and booring broadcast. I like Detroit, Nashville, Pittsburgh and Vancouver. I really couldn't comment on St. Louis and Chicago, I can't stand to listen to those feeds for more than 2 minutes, just the tone of voice and the way the pronounce words, draw them out and such, it's a very difficult listen. I do like the Montreal broadcast... but I never know what they're saying
