Eric Lindros, bust or biggest bust ever?

imagine if he had signed in Quebec. If people thought Sakic/Forsberg was a great combo, there would have been nothing to stop Sakic/Lindros. They wouldn't have needed Roy, they could have won in Quebec with Fiset in net. In fact, i'm pretty sure Philly played Quebec in the first round during the Nords final season there, could have been Lindros vs Forsberg on opposite teams and no one would have ever known any different. Everyone would be talking about how great and dominant the Sakic/Lindros Nordiques were, and how Forsberg was pretty good in Philly but never had any support and had a bum ankle that stopped him from fulfilling his potential

Red or White Jerseys at home?

already been mentioned, but I like white jerseys at home. That way you get to see all of the other colors from the league. Otherwise it's always Blue (preds) vs white, every game...

Eric Lindros, bust or biggest bust ever?

surprised at the large amount of Lindros support in here. For those who don't know, I grew up in philly before moving to Nashville. My last year there was the cup finals against Detroit, I think Stevens hit lindros the next season before the Preds were concieved. Growing up, playing street/pond hockey I was always Lindros. When he was in his prime the guy flat out dominated games from one end of the rink to the other. He would flatten a guy in the defensive zone then head up ice with the puck and run over a defender before one handing a shot past the goalie. and that's no lie, he did that at least 3 times that I can remember. He wasn't known as a goal scorer, but that guy had amazing shooting skills and accuracy. He could also fight as well as anyone, I remember when he knocked out one of the guys on the caps with one punch. But he was just the complete package, size, speed, skill. impossible to contain because what are you going to do when a 245lb monster is bearing down on you with speed that you would expect from Bure, kariya or Selanne(back then)? and soft hands too, he could handle the puck and distribute it. You have to look at his team too. the best goalie he ever had was a washed up Hextall. Other than that he played a lot of games in front of Roussell and Soderstrom, garth snow was there too. you had basically Lindros and LeClaire providing the offense, Brind'Amour as the shutdown forward and Desjardins on the point. The rest of the team was guys like Dan Kordic, Trent Klatt and Pat Falloon. Put it this way... Joel Otto was a big pickup for them. Bust, most certainly not. People have let the last 7 seasons cloud their memory of his first 6. HOF??? I don't know. in my definition of hall of "fame", then yes he gets in. But what the hall really is, I really doubt it. I really think the hall of FAME, should be more like a history book of the league. Put in the guys who mattered during each era. The guys that people were talking about. Nobody can say that Sean Avery hasn't been a huge part of the league in recent years, but no way he gets into the hall. He'll be long forgotten one day and I think it's a shame. As much as I dislike him, Avery is part of the story of the league right now. Lindros was a huge story in the league in the 90's, he was part of the leagues "Fame". That's not how it works though, so I don't think he gets in.

11/7 GDT: Red Wings 3, Predators 2 (SO)

Some random, scattered thoughts. You can imagine that i'm a little bitter after last night and the called back goals. but that's the game. Mason was awesome for 65 minutes and then went retarded in the shootout. overcommitted way to early on both shots. normally he's a great shootout goalie, stays up, takes a good angle and really doesn't bite on a deke. last night he played both of those shots horrible, I mean, you know what Datsyuk is going to do. I think this is now 12 straight games without a penalty for Tootoo. Gotta hand it to the Wings, played a great game and made the Preds PP look aweful. the layoff really hit them hard in the 3rd, combined with the Preds really pressuring when they were down 2. Game could easily have been 4-1 Preds, could easily have been 5-0 Wings too. Preds ended up taking 7 out of 10 points on a 5 game roadie through CAL, VAN, EDM, CHI, DET... not bad at all! two weeks from now we meet again for some Turkey! see ya then!!

have a good laugh during the lay over..

Burnside is a moron anyway. I think he just hates hockey in general, at least ESPN does.

    Nashville not moving

not unless the preds move into the top half of the league... and then they'd just have to pay for whatever team moves down into the bottom half. It's not like the owners care either. Teams like Detroit, Toronto, Philly, NYR are saving $20-30M each year on payroll, so paying $10M into revenue sharing still means they're making $10M more with each season with this system. am I happy that my team is on welfare? no, but it's what the league agreed on. I'd rather that they just get rid of the cap floor at least teams could save face that way. Preds did pretty good with a $23M payroll before the lockout. Now they're being forced to spend $34M to reach the floor, so getting $10M in revenue sharing balances it out. Get rid of the floor and the revenue sharing and it's all basically equal except no one has to complain about which teams are giving and which teams are recieving.

well I believe they did some obstacle course type of stuff. Gelinas cut his hand on a rock and had to have several stitches. anyway, here's a thread on the preds boards from someone who is stationed there right now and met the team... http://boards.nashvillepredators.com/index...ic=7089&hl=

    Nashville not moving

it's not the 5 years that us Preds fans wanted to see, but we'll take it either way. The city wanted 5 years with no cap on losses, the the buyers wanted a $20M cap... well they got the cap and reduced the years to 3. Most likely meaning that they plan on upping the payroll, which also is signaled by the addition of two more members on the Boots side of things. the 30-45 days part is a little odd, all we've heard down here is that the council needs 7 days notice to call a meeting and vote on it. We're all just tired of the whole thing and ready for it to end. Ready to get leipold the heck out of town and get some people in who are interested in actually running the franchise. It'll be nice to actually get back to just talking hockey... though I'm sure no one outside of Nashville will be eager to let that happen, the attendance will probably still be ragged on by the league every night.

11/7 GDT: Red Wings 3, Predators 2 (SO)

Well, feels a little more like a big one this morning, but still doesn't match what it used to be. I hope yall aren't getting too jacked up to see something happen with Tootoo. He's gone 8 games now without even picking up a minor penalty, he's also put in 3 goals already, matching last season and 1 away from high highest ever, add in 2 assists and he's halfway to his career high after just 14 games. Don't know who starts tonight. Trotz hasn't been telling the goalies until the day of the game. Mason just won against Chicago on sunday, but Ellis is 4-0 with 2 shutouts. If you haven't watched the Preds this season, they're a much different team this year. They don't have that quick strike ability and don't have nearly the offensive output from the blueline as past years. They are a little bit grittier (not much) and a lot better defensively (when they want to be). Gelinas is coming back tonight, he's had some bad luck with injuries this season, cut his hand pretty bad in a team building trip to Fort Campbell, and then he walked into Erat's stick on the bench and got an eye injury. Hopefully he's ready to go now, he's proven to be a Wing killer in the past. Bonk is our best pickup so far this season. Very effective defensively and has been perhaps the most consistent goal scorer for us. Ortmeyer is finally settling in with the team and playing better. He hasn't lived up to the expectations that Rangers fans sent with him as far as penalty killing/shot blocking. But he's starting to pick it up. The most important thing to watch for at this point is the first goal of the game. Preds have been an all or nothing team this season, they're either going to win by 2-3 goals or lose by 3-4. and it usually depends on who scores first. Get up on them early and they tend to lose faith and wilt away. But if they score first, then they can focus on going into defensive shutdown mode and really frustrate the other team. Offensively like I said, they're not the same speedy, quick strike preds. In fact this team doesn't generate very much offense at all. But lately they have been converting on their limited chances. The playmakers are finally starting to click and find the back of the net. Arnott, Legwand, Erat, Radulov and Dumont all went through horrible slumps and it showed when we lost 6 in a row. Now they're back on their game and scoring again. I really think the Red Wings puck control system will frustrate the Predators and make their already low shot total go from 20 or so, down into the teens. Hopefully the Preds can capitalize on a mistake or two, but I really think it won't matter because I don't see the Preds defense being able to handle Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Holmstrom. Prediction... Preds - 1 Wings - 4 oh yeah... The Red Wings STILL SUCK!

    Osgood to start vs. Smashvegas

the matchup tomorrow just doesn't feel the same does it? no division on the line, no playoff spots to be sorted out. no Hasek vs Vokoun. no Kariya, Timonen or Hartnell and I know they weren't there last year, but no Yzerman or Shanahan. also no Schneider who has just killed the Preds. Tootoo without controversy so far this year. new faces on both sides. Rafalski, Drake... Bonk, Gelinas, de Vries... also consider that it's basically a bonus game for the preds, already with 6 points on this road trip, it's a success regardless of the outcome tomorrow. ------------------------- Still a few interesting things to watch tomorrow. Wings allow very few shots, Preds take very few shots, I wonder how low that number will be tomorrow. Preds have been burned most this season on odd-man rushes/breakaways, Wings have players like Datsyuk and Zetterberg who can murder a team with those chances. I'm not betting on anything particularly exciting, but who knows, over the last two years we've all built up these games with anticipation and they always seemed to fall way short of expectations. Perhaps this year will go above and beyond expectations.

    Excellent Article on Nashville

there's been yet another investor from california added to the group. but Freeman said the locals still hold 2/3 of the power. it's just a case of del Biaggio bringing in some buddies to spread out his portion, but not add a higher number from their side. it's still day-to-day, hour-by-hour on the deal getting done, they're so close, but seem to be having a stare down over the final few details. Leipold extended the deadline so it looks like they have through this week now to finish the deal. One the ice, obviously things have improved. Oh yeah, Tootoo got another goal last night, and has gone 8 games without a penalty

    Ron Wilson's an Idiot

burping it is when you press down on the middle of the lid which pushes the air out from one of the corners. it's always described as a burping sound... i don't know, i've never heard it burp, maybe on the older tupperware of the 70's though. They really don't design tupperware even remotely the same as the used to

    Excellent Article on Nashville

quick little update... Doug Bergeron has joined the group attempting to buy the Predators. http://tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/articl...ORTS02/71031020 This is a big shot of cash into the group and hopefully allows them to clear the final hurdles in short order. If a deal isn't reached today, then Leipold is expected to extend the deadline another 7-10 days. ...and yes, the attendance and the team still sucks. I have no excuses for either situation right now.

    Bobby Clarke for commish!

this is why Ken Dryden makes so much sense. Hockey knowledge? Hall of Fame goalie, President of the Leafs from 97-03 Law knowledge? law degree from McGill Political knowledge? among the leaders of the Liberal Party of Canada Public Speaking? color commentator for ABC during the 80, 84 and 88 olympics Writing? has written 5 books More Education? History degree from Cornell. and has 7 honorary doctoral degrees. I doubt there are any other candidates out there who are as qualified as Ken Dryden. The only question is if he would actually be interested in doing the job. He may be past hockey now and too much into politics

    Bobby Clarke for commish!

Dryden would be a phenominal choice for commish!! but one small note. Clarke was GM in Minnesota and then Florida from 90-94. Russ Farwell was actually the Flyers GM who made the big trade to bring Lindros to philly.

    Markov to the Bruins?

http://nhlscap.com/teamnumbers.htm lists $2,514,563 as the Bruins cap space. They could drop Bobby Allen and his $500k. Which gives them roughly $3M to fit Markov in... Or Markov could sign for multiple years and front load it like... $3M - $2.5M - $2M... so the cap hit is only $2.5M

NHL players to use heated blades

agreed 100% besides that, I wonder just how effective these skates really are. Do they create deeper ruts in the ice? or are they even in contact with one particular patch of ice long enough to work properly? what about when a player is standing still waiting for a faceoff, will he leave a bad imprint on the ice? Will these things make the entire surface too watery and slick? or too watery to where the puck doesn't glide properly? so many questions that could be asked, but the biggest one is... What's wrong with the skates they already have? but do you think Chelios would really go for the new technology?
  24. Legionnaire11

    Weller Pops Tootoo

no I wouldn't really have much to say if he weren't a pred. I haven't said a word on Downey or Boulerice. Never mentioned Hollweg last season. and yes he is my (second) least favorite pred. But he's still a pred, I wouldn't be a die-hard fan if I weren't a homer. And I don't really defend Tootoo, I just try to point out where his actions are blown out of proportion and calls for his banishment are unjustified.
  25. Legionnaire11

    Weller Pops Tootoo

Serious question now, not arguing... You don't think that any of it at all had to do with the fact that it was Tootoo? I have a feeling that the opinions would be different if the names on the jerseys were different, or if the entire situation was reversed. What if it were Martin Erat coming around the back of the net and Weller charging at him gets an elbow up high to the head, then Tootoo comes in and clotheslines Weller? You know for a fact that everyone would be laying into Tootoo for it and calling for his suspension and ouster from the league. It's like if I killed someone and went to Prison, people would say how terrible I was, and the judicial system would punish me accordingly. But fast forward a couple years and suppose I murdered Ted Kaczynski while I was in there. Would the prison officials ignore it just because of who I killed? no, they would add on to my sentence and put me in harsher conditions. ugh, it's embarassing to read that stuff. I hope people can see that i'm not THAT much of a homer.
