Chiming in to say Max has a horrible shot. He's Pavel Bure junior without any semblance of finish. Schneider for Biron/forward makes a hell of a lot more sense than anything including Lang, Max, or Kronwall.

NJ gets Lukowich for a 3rd and we ship a 4th off for Cory freakin' Cross. Way to go Holland, way to go...

who are you don cherry? some sort of hockey analysis? Sundin has sucked balls all season 1)quinn has changed the lines up several times and he has yet to do anything 2)he gets tons of powerplay time 3)he has played a lot with tucker it's no excuse for his play Lang however has the same points (42) than Sundin (41) (in about the same amount of games) for half the price Lang's price too is post cap many people forget that your assessment is faulty Wow, don't know how I missed this. First off, Sundin has produced 1 less point in 5 less games than Lang. Sundin also plays the penalty kill quite often, whereas Lang does not. Sundin is a game breaker, Lang is not. Sundin hits, Lang does not. Sundin plays sound defense, Lang is a floater. Your only valid point is their difference in salary which has already been acknowledged many, many times. Sundin's been playing with Kilger, Domi, Antropov, Poni, etc etc. He played a FEW games with O'neill and Tucker and virtually none with Lindros. So, you're wrong again. That's entirely my point. Sundin would bring this team to a completely different level. edit: Sundin also has 12 points in his last 11 games despite playing on an awful Leafs team. He tore it up overseas too, something Lang for sure didn't do.

Not a huge fan of this deal. Saprykin and Reinprecht have been pretty terrible offensively this year, whereas Williams is having the year of his life and Hudler has been casually thrown into way too many trade ideas lately. The guy is fantastic in the AHL and could very well put it together in the NHL next year. We don't really shore up any weaknesses AND we lose one of our top prospects. I'm all for trading Lang but I'm almost sure we could get a better package than the one you listed. Many teams need a 1st line center and Lang is still quite efficient. His salary isn't bloated either.

There's really no sense in changing the starting roster w/o making it a significant move. Daigle may have been great at one time but he's yet to put it together in the NHL (and at 31, will it ever happen?). He'd probably do well with Hank but honestly, who wouldn't? The weakest roster player is Cleary and since he's a much better defensive package I can't honestly say I'd make the move. In the end, 850k is just too much to spend on a guy who's going to be in the bleachers more often than not.
-
Wait, don't you want Witt..? Witt costs 400k less but he's going to be more expensive to acquire via trade. They're essentially the same player.
-
Richardson would be neat. He's not a great defenseman but he brings more to the line-up than Woolley does. Sanderson though? Huh? Why? Lilja and Hudler for Geoff freakin' Sanderson?

There's no way Luongo alone will fetch them that.

Salary cap.

I've read some conflicting stories about Tkachuk and his salary, but something caught my eye at Spectors. According to the Calgary Sun, Tkachuk is only on the books for 2 million for the rest of the season. Now, I'm not sure whether that's because of his injuries or because it's late in the season and he's already been paid XX amount, but if it's true, would you trade for him? I believe I read somewhere that he's signed for 1 more year but the value is much more cap friendly next year, around 3m-4m. That's a decent price for what he contributes, imo. The Cons: He'll be 34 this year and has had problems with injuries all season long. He also came into the training camp overweight and out of shape, changing his nickname from Walt to Tkachunk. He could go for a lot as many teams could use a guy with his talents. A player from the starting roster would lose his spot, also. The Pros: He's been a beast in the Olympics and looks quite good considering how his season has gone thus far (23p in 16gm, as well). He's huge, mobile, and mean - something we've lacked up front for awhile now. thoughts?
-
I don't buy that Weight or Tkachuk want to stay in St. Louis, personally. St. Louis has had extremely bad management and I don't really think anyone wants to play there right now. Plus, they're just now entering the cellar dweller phase. They don't exactly have a lot of prospects and they're not going to fill their roster in one draft. Furthermore, Tkachuk's salary will be in the 3m-4m range next year - not 5m. A lot of eastern teams are looking for improvement down the middle, so I don't see how it would be a problem getting rid of Lang. I'll take Tkachuk over Lang anyday.

TSN: Backchecking. Theodore is more of a stretch, of course, but I'd definitely look into that rumor. As much as I like Legace, I don't think he's the guy. Osgood doesn't even deserve a mention, he's been awful. The article becomes more intriguing when Komisarek is mentioned. He plays a similar style to Fischer and would be a pretty good replacement for him. He is 23 and has a ton of potential but I doubt Gainey is looking for an all-star return package for him. Modin is the guy who interests me most. My best memory of him is last Olympics when he was an absolute beast for the Swedish team. His play with the Lightning in their Cup run was pretty good as well, however I haven't followed him at all this season. He's a big guy (and he uses his size) with a nice skillset and I think he'd look pretty damn good next to Zetterberg in the line-up. Plus, the more swedes the better amirite? Komisarek makes 900k and Modin is making 2.2m, not entirely sure the lengths of the contracts though. Thoughts?

Lang is not better than Sundin. Sundin's been playing with 4th line nobodies all season and is still staying at a PPG pace. He's also no more of a underachiever than Datsyuk is, as far as I'm concerned. If not for his pre-salary cap price, I'd love to have Sundin on the team (though not for Datsyuk/Zetterberg/Kronwall).
-
Ok, a couple of things. First, Boston got Sturm/Stuart/Primeau for Thornton, so there's no way Detroit would be paying anywhere near the value of Sturm/Stuart/Primeau (i.e. not Datsyuk, not Zetterberg). Second, Sundin is most definitely an improvement over Lang but at what price? 3 million more for clutch goals and more leadership? Sundin's a big guy but his physical game is not much grittier than Lang's. I can't even think of a trade where Detroit dumps enough salary to get Sundin.

You want to have an intelligent conversation? Learn this: people are going to disagree with you, especially on the internet. Your trade idea was awful and someone called you on it - big deal. Pissing and moaning and making a scene doesn't help your case at all.
-
Seth, you're the only one posting garbage. NN posted his exact reasoning as to why he thinks Orszagh is a 3rd liner and retorted with a big "yawn". You do realize in his first 3 seasons he's done pretty much nothing to warrant any praise for his offense? And that you want to trade Hudler, arguably our top offensive prospect (Grigorenko, mebbe), for Orszagh and some guys that are most likely going to amount to nothing? And you want to throw in a 1st? And you want to throw in another prospect of ours? It's one thing to suggest a bad trade, it's completely different to completely ignore any argument other than "IM RUBBER YOU'RE GLUE LOLOL" and act like everyone else is a complete moron because they don't agree with you.

for someone who keeps saying how we know nothing about hockey and were idiots for thinking witt is better then lilja(which he is by a mile) who do you keep saying "nashville wanted to re sign him" he never played for nashville ! so stop saying it and since your so convinced lilja is amazing id love to hear how GREAT he would be in a washington capitals uniform rather a wings one lmao your dillusional Um, first, some other dude said I had lacked common hockey knowledge - not the other way around. Secondly, Lilja was signed by Nashville during the lockout season. Thanks a million though.
-
It's a pretty well known fact that Nashville wanted to re-sign him. He had already made up his mind to play in Europe and for whatever reason he decided to take the offer Holland gave him. Nashville would've re-signed him had they known he changed his mind. Ken Daniels has been through the story 100 times on FSN. I'm just going to go ahead and agree to disagree. I think Witt is an extremely overrated defenseman, you folks disagree, so be it.
-
Funny how nobody wanted Witt before the lockout. But wait, he suddenly wants out of town and is the next Scott Stevens! Wrong. Nashville, LA, and Carolina all were after Lilja prior to the lockout and the Preds ended up signing him. Nashville wanted to re-sign him for this season but Lilja decided to play in Europe. He changed his mind last minute and ended up on the phone with Holland. Thanks though. Witt has been a very average defenseman his entire career. You want to argue that he's tough? Fine, he's tough when he wants to play tough. You want to argue that he's a better fit than Woolley? Go for it, I agree. Don't tell me he's a good defenseman though, that's just bogus. No one did, huh? That's why Babcock has had him with Lidstrom since day 1? Ok. Babcock and Holland both knew what they were doing when they signed Lilja and there's been numerous articles quoting those two + teammates saying how great Lilja has been for the team. Witt responsible in his own end? Heh. Witt COULD come here and turn out to be the second coming of Chelios, Stevens, etc etc. Or, the more likely scenario, he'll come here and suddenly all the Wings fans begging for him all season long will scratch their heads and wonder why god, why did I want this subpar defenseman who rarely plays physically? Why?! For a 2nd round pick, no less. I even wanted to trade Hudler for him, why oh why! Pass.
-
Yes, I certainly have been put in my place by disagreeing with 3-4 people. I'll go mope in the corner! Your hockey arguments continue to astound and impress me, oh Satan. Fact is, Witt would be playing on our 3rd defensive pairing as he's not done anything to warrant a spot over anyone else on this club aside from Woolley. So, no thanks, I won't be trading away our valuable assets for a defenseman who gives us nothing. It's hilarious how people think Witt is good in his own end and is a physical presence night after night. Talk about a joke, my god. Maybe Lilja > Witt was a little overboard, but Lilja's proven he can do well here (regardless of Lidstrom) - Witt has not. Lilja could still be scoreless for all I care, the guy's not here to score. Chalk this one up to "WOW HE BODYCHECKED SOMEONE ONCE HE MUST BE THE GRITTIEST PLAYER EVER DETROIT SUCKS AND WE NEED HIM!11!!11" kind of attitude.
-
So thats your reasoning? Lets not forget that Lilja was a -8 last season and only had 7 pts. Who's to say Witt wouldnt excel being on Detroit?? I hate when people make comparisons when the two players situations are completely different. Witt is better than Lilja...thats just common hockey knowledge. Witt is most certainly not better than Lilja, but thanks for that lesson in "common hockey knowledge". I'm guessing you've never seen the guy play? Witt can't play defense to save his life. He's a little better than Woolley in his own end. He doesn't possess ANY offensive assets and his "big physical game" that everyone seems to talk about is on par with Schneider's physical game. Witt is NOT what this team needs and the ONLY reason people mention his name is because he's available. I'll agree that Witt is better than Woolley and would fit nicely as a 6th defenseman, but to trade away all the assets you guys expect Washington will demand? C'mon now. That's the stupidest thing I've read on this board. Witt won't be coming to Detroit because Witt sucks and is not what we need.
-
Yes, yes he is. Lilja has been a fantastic partner for Lidstrom this year. Witt is a 5th/6th defenseman.
-
Which is exactly why Witt is not the guy we need. I'm not sure why the entire forums wants to trade away 1st/2nd picks and prospects for a guy who doesn't even crack our top 5. Kronwall, Lidstrom, Chelios, Schneider, Lilja > Witt. You want a physical 6th defender? Find someone with a reasonable price.
