Witt is a 5th/6th defenseman and you want to give up one of our brightest forward prospects AND a pick for him? Leopold is another story though, he might be interesting.
-
He was in the box for 6 minutes. Lilja also seemed to play a lot on PK instead of Schneider (when he wasn't in the box).

If you're talking 4th line depth, then put Hordichuk - Smithson - Tootoo back on the 4th, and they were producing like one of the best 4th lines in the league Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Shanahan Samuelsson - Lang - Williams Maltby - Draper - Franzen Holmstrom - Yzerman - Cleary Line for line, Detroit is better on offense. The points speak for themselves. Find yourself a number 1 center and I'll give you Kariya - ??? - Sullivan. I agree w/ the offense statement and I agree with the fact that we most definitely need a 1st line center, but when Tootoo and Smithson were on the 4th line that was one of the best 4th lines in the league. Don't jump on me, I'm not saying they were THE best, just one of. And the first line is normally Kariya - Perreault - Erat, but with Erat being out with a hip strain from last night the lines got a bit jumbled tonight It's all cool. It's not that big of an issue, because while Detroit's 3rd/4th lines get it done a little bit better than the Preds, you've still got a great line-up. All I'm sayin' is Offense = Detroit Defense = Slight edge to Detroit for having 3 HOF'ers Goaltending = Huge advantage Nashville

Got me on the first two, completely forgot about them. Nashville, no, not as deep as any of those teams. Actually, you know what, I don't think Calgary is as deep as us. Our secondary scoring beats just about anyone.

Have you looked at the Preds AHL team?? The fact that they can call up guys from huge injuries and still go .500 is a testament to that. Especially since the majority of these guys aren't ready just yet for the NHL. The Predators probably have the best crop of defensemen prospects in the entire NHL. And as for Ottawa having good depth, are you serious? If you're taking into account all of your prospect players, sure, Nashville has the advantage. It's one of the advantages to being a bottomfeeder for so many years. If you're talking depth as in our 4th line vs your 4th line, there's no way. And yes, to establish my point I specifically made a completely false statement about Ottawa. No wait, I'm not joking at all! Hilarious! Ottawa's team is fantastic, from 1st line to 4th line, and if you want to include prospects? Go right ahead, they've got a ton of them.

I'm guessing you don't remember last Wings season, where half of our line-up consisted of Grand Rapid Griffin players for a good month. Top to bottom, Detroit > Nashville, aside from goaltending but I've already conceded that.

The only aspect that nashville is better than us is goaltending. I think you could possibly make an argument that the Preds are better than the Wings on defense also. And depth if that's a category Depth? You're joking. There's no team in the league as deep as Detroit, besides maybe Ottawa. Defense, like I said, roughly equal but there's no way Nashville has an advantage, no matter how you slice it. Lidstrom surely breaks any possible tie.
-
The only aspect that nashville is better than us is goaltending. I'll take Kariya or Sullivan for a clutch goal over any of our forwards. Defense is almost equal as well, the main difference being Lidstrom.

Unless I completely missed what was being talked about, the overall score right now is 6-6. Wings won 3-1 earlier this month and Nashville takes two games 2-1 and 3-2.

I haven't seen Vokoun make any spectacular saves ala Brodeur, Hasek, Roy, etc but he's definitely great at positioning. Until proven otherwise, I think Vokoun is being made out to look a lot better than he really is thanks to Nasvhille's suffocating defense. Wings didn't really get a clean shot off all game, aside from the Schneider goal. So, lucky? Eh, maybe. Good positioning? Sure. WOWOWOW SO SKILLED!1!111? Shrug.

Where do you get those wonderful stats? I love Batman wordplay.
-
Last I checked, Chelios hasn't been an offensive defenseman in 10 years. The man continues to get it done on the PK though (part of the reason he logged over 20 minutes tonight).

I disagree. Datsyuk and Zetterberg are just fine. They just had two bad games along with the rest of the team. The whole team doesnt need to be overhauled. The forwards have the talent and the ability to score, they just havent followed through yet. Our defense is the same. We had a decent PK but our defense is still too soft and weak. Kronwall will be a big boost. However, there is no cure for the goaltending. Sorry but I really disagree on Hank and Dats, particularly Datsyuk. They really can't get it done on even strength and help needs to be brought in to change that fact. I think they're both talented players but they're not on par with the stars of the league (though I think Hank could be better if he played center and got some wingers). Zetterberg - 49 points in 46 games (26 ES points) Datsyuk - 58 points in 48 games (26 ES points) Jagr - 71 points in 49 games (43 ES points) Alfredsson - 67 points in 43 games (35 ES points) Thornton - 66 points in 44 games (39 ES points) Staal - 64 points in 48 games (37 ES points) It goes on and on. Our team just doesn't seem to put it together 5v5 and when we struggle on the powerplay, it really shows.

Here's the problem, in my own opinion. On offense: We lack a true scorer to line up next to Datsyuk. Shanahan no longer has the energy to fill that role. A good goalie is going to shut Datsyuk and Zetterberg down 9 out of 10 times because they just don't have the shot. Zetterberg can't play with Datsyuk anymore. Too many cute passes and trying to deke out 5 guys, it just doesn't work, especially vs teams like Nashville that will suffocate you on defense. Hank needs some hardworking wingers on either side of him to force him to play his energy game - not Datsyuk's game. Lang needs to go. The guy does nothing in even strength play and we've got so many powerplay "specialists" on this team, it makes no sense to devote almost 4 million to yet another one. On defense: Kronwall's just gotta get back into the game. Woolley has had a string of really bad games and I'm sure everyone is just about sick of him. I'm definitely wrong about not needing a physical defenseman. We really need a guy who can make sure the shots from the point get into our goalie untouched, deflections have killed us all season long. Goaltending: Ditch one of the stiffs and find a guy who can compete with the other great goaltenders in the league. If our 4th line sucks because of it, do it anyway.

I doubt you'll find many fans here who think either are true #1's, they just like one over the other. But yeah, Wings won't go anywhere without a guy who can match the performances of the Vokouns, Kiprusoffs, Gigueres, etc etc - Legace and Osgood definitely can't. Lang/goalie for a better goalie? Who knows.
-
Ugly.

There's some excitement, good ending to that 3rd period.
-
No joke, I feel safer on the PK than I do on the PP.
-
You may still be drunk but Lebda is pretty fast. edit: damn yous YoungGuns

Some good sarcastic humor from Kenny Daniels. These guys are at least trying to keep this entertaining.
-
What's with the skilled little guys being able to dominate Detroit? Let's trade away everything we've got to get Drury, Kariya, and Sullivan then we'll never lose again!
-
You dump and chase to spread them out and because you can outnumber them on the boards, thus theoretically winning the puck back. Facing an aggressive PK like Nashville's, it's amazingly difficult to get a pass in because they crowd the blueline - either the pass will be broken up or you're going to end up offsides. If they actually worked hard and skated for that puck, they should be able to keep control after the dump most of the time.
-
One day we'll get a true goal scorer who can burn one by a hot goaltender. Also, Legace kept us in this game on the PK - he made some outstanding saves.
