Brodeur has always been my all-time favorite goalie so ofcourse there has always been a part of me that wishes he was wearing the winged wheel, though since most of my admiration for him comes from the fact that he follows the line of respectable men like yzerman, sakic, etc. I wouldn't really want him to play anywhere else. BUT, for the sake of argument, if he were to be moved, I do think that Tampa and Pitt make sense except for the fact that NJ probably would not want to trade him so teams they have to compete with. However, I do think that TB would send one of their big three only because I think another near miss of the playoffs this year will convince them that they need to shake some things up. Lecavalier will stay i'm sure. With Pitt...who would they trade away? Armstrong and Fleury? I dont even know if Pitt can afford that especially since they need a capable goalie for the long haul...not a rental.

Oilers cry foul over Nylander deal

Actually, that was part of the deal that actually had our boy brendan shanahan headed to st. louis. So it ended up something like Stevens to NJ and Shanahan to the Blues.

Jason Allison has actually been one of my favorite players not wearing a red wing jersey for a long time, so ya, I've watched him play. And you laugh at any prospect of JA being a diamond in the rough? Well holy freakin crap.....I think thats the exact criteria you need in order for a player to ever be a diamond in the rough, so go figure. Tell me something, were you flying banners to get Holland to sign Samuelsson and Cleary? Or I bet you were on the horn getting Zetterberg drafted as well. But lets see here, what do you think about the WIngs signing Briere this season....perhaps HE could be that diamond in the rough You were looking for?

Some of you guys make no sense. I mean, talk about calling the kettle black.....who are WE to call a player aging when we have Chelios on the blueline and Hasek (hopefully) in net. Not to mention, how can we forget how hockey fans across the country continuously shouted that the wings were always too old to win a cup?? But look what happend. I think we might have won a cup or two, i forget. someone look it up. "But he took a year off so by defualt he sucks now!" look, i dont even care if you stayed in a Holiday Inn express last night, but you do not know the work out routine he has put himself through. Besides, these guys are world class athletes and it wont take him long to gain his stride again. Its not like he was injured for a year and was reduced to laying in bed all day. I'm sure he took care of himself. Unless you know for a fact that he layed in bed eating pancakes all day then shut the hell up. Took a year off? Again, I point towards Hasek. How did that fair? Hell, the whole LEAGUE took a year off for the lock out. Most guys went and played in other less competitive leagues. But so what, they stayed in shape. To back this up, I point towards Joe Kocur when we picked him back out from the beers leagues. The last time anyone saw him play, he cleaned up and produced. I'm not saying we should by all means sign him.....but god damn, think with some sense here people. You have you're opinion, but you share it like its a fact. And the only fact i see around here is that most of you dont even understand what your tiny little brains are thinking. The Red Wings aren't going to have the roster that Holland was hoping for due to higher prices. We need to find another diamond in the rough if we want to start thinking about winning another cup. Is Allison that guy? Hell, i dont know. But lets leave it to those whos JOB it is to actually research and follow these issues up before we come to any conclusion. Agreed?

Who Do We Pick On Now Thread...

    honestly, I say Bob Rouse.
  7. martyrme19

    Lang

Hopefully we use the empty spot to give Hudler more of a role. The extra cash should be used to sign schneids, markov, bertuzzi, and hell, i even want calder back. and Hasek. wow, that was an easy off-season.

    AY 4 RL?

the correct response to this question would be that, im unsure about the potential Yashin can still bring to the proper team in the NHL, but if the red wings decide that it is worth it to find out, I will not pass judgement until after I see how he performs on the ice. If he performs accordingly to his salary that Holland pays him, I will think its a great move. If not, i'll ***** for hours on end. I cant oppose to signing Yashin for the fact that hes a center and nothing else, because for the right price, there is no need to shy away from players that management thinks will better the team just because we may have other players who also can play center. Proper shuffliing can always be made to better the team.

who should Detroit target the most in free agency?

Honestly, I dont think anyone can give a correct speculation until Hasek determines if hes retiring or not. If he goes, that brings into question whether or not we need to spend money and target a more capable goaltender. If he stays, we then have to determine how much we're willing to pay him and that will determine if we have enough money to make a considerable splash in the market this year. As well, him returning or not returning may alter the positions the red wings management feel they need to fortify. If he returns, perhaps they are confident enough in the defense that they can spend more money on an offensively minded big name forward. If he doesn't return, perhaps signing both schneider AND markov become priority leading to the old saying that the best offense is a stellar defense....or they may also think targeting a defensive, grinding forward is the key. So damnit Hasek, make up your mind already. The world of the red winged ones await.

    NHL Dissed

not with that kind of attitude. Its called a self-fulfilling prophecy. If hockeys biggest fans are going around telling everyone that no one will ever take the sport seriously.......then it will become the truth. Your latter example as well proves just how possible it is for the table to turn. and that is so very true. Its a common trend that hockey is only available to more affluent households because of the large costs that come with the sport. Thankfully more and more rinks are being opened everywhere and one can only hope that the competition to attract skaters will lower ice costs as well as spark more interest so that we can accumulate fans in all economic classes.

    NHL Dissed

I would say its a diss. Im sure what they were implying is that the NHL is low-scoring and thus not very exiting to watch in comparison to their painfully repetitive spory. How is them simply knowing who is playing in the finals a compliment? can we quit selling ourselves short here people?? If we dont take ourselves seriously, how can we expect the rest of the sporting world to?

Anaheim not exactly the new Hockeytown

"I'm cheering for the other guys to beat the Ducks because I am a Red Wings fan," he said to hoots of derision from his friends. "I predict Ottawa will win it in three." Ah well, 1 out of 2 aint bad.

    Kozzie a Wing again?

I would welcome him back (with the obvious dismclaimer of "for the right price"). Obviously there will be some who question bringing in a 35 year old winger...especially those crazy and stupid enough to say we should let schneider walk. But it seems like Kozlov is a consistent 20 goal scorer. He cant guarantee 80 points a year though as last year was his most productive of his career. Ya he trailed off in production with the wings, but years later its obvious he's proven himself. Just so much however, i still wonder. I want to know how many of those 80 points was contributed on playing with teammates ilya kovalchuck and marian hossa. Somebody that knows more than me could tell me that he was never on a line with them and that would do enough to convince me.

    Hockey is getting publicized

Haha, point taken. But in that case, according to our latest "Enforcer" thread.....all the family traditionalists can just become wings fans!

    Hockey is getting publicized

The NHL is publicized terribly to the american market. I see inklings of improvement, but there is a lot of room to grow. First off, we need a complete overhaul of broadcasters of the NHL that present the games to the american public. Copy what the NFL does, they use articulate, ex football players that are big and beefy and bring the appearance of toughness that football exemplifies right to the viewers home before the game even starts. They are edgy, comical, in touch with todays youth, and knowledgable. Even the older guys they use that might not have even had a career are still rugged enough to pull this off. Hockey doesnt have this. I'll give you two names right now that fit this bill, Brett Hull, and Don Cherry. Everyone else needs to go. Disagree? well you're wrong. even if you think Cherry is an *******, or a little crazy, thats what the public responds to. People will watch him if they love him, but even more if they hate him. I applaud ABC for bringing him to the american market although i didnt get to witness any of his games myself. Another guy that they need to show case more is roenick. Guys like these. Im sorry, but the little weasel Darren Pang...******* PANG....needs to go. I dont want someone that looks like they get 3 wedgies a day from the stations interns bringing my beloved sport to the public. One thing i'm hoping is that with all of the excessive trouble that football players and basketball players have been having with the police, some family tradionalists will say to hell with those sports and find hockey to be more appealing since those instances are few and far between. (and ya, for those of you who are about to say that it happens in hockey too we just dont hear about it, you know damn well it is no where nearly as current in hockey than those sports. Besides, Belfour is expected to retire soon.)

    An Enforcer

Its been said in a few posts already, but there is no room on the team for just a pure enforcer that brings nothing else to the table. The only sense there is to address this situation is if it comes through a player that will contribute in other areas on our team as well. We had a hard enough time as it was deciding who to play and who to take out in the playoffs (pre-injury era) so a big brawler would be absolutely useless. And as far as a guy who can fight and score....well as a few have already said, those are hard to come by. Iginla seems to be the poster child of that description, and the other has already said he wants to remain in Detroit (Bertuzzi). My hope is is that Bertuzzi wont be just a shell of his former self and will regain that reputation while the wings get a decent pay cut for taking that risk. Aaron Asham has been brought up before, but at the expense of whos ice time? I'll tell you one thing though, the wings sign Chris Drury and i say to hell with an enforcer at all, we wont need em.

    pierre mcguire .......

Hell, Hull would smoke stogs during his day and his career was just fine. Besides, Zetterberg smokes ALL the time too, and I know this for a fact. I mean, he's european, just like you guys said so it shouldnt suprise anyone. And by smoking.....i mean the competition! Boo Ya! High five on that one anyone?? get it? smoke...the competition? great crowd, great crowd. ah but on a serious note....to answer the rest of the post it makes sense that Lang wouldnt come back really. Mediocre production, an abundance of centers, young centers at that that need to start playing at some point, and a heavy price tag. So unless Lang expresses some deep desire to stay with the wings and offers a price cut that they just couldn't refuse, i dont see him stayin on. However I would just assume that the cash they would be saving on him would go to A, resigning Bertuzzi, and B, saving up to resign Zets. But just because Mcguire says a guy isnt coming back doesnt mean jack. I mean, who recalls not too long ago when Hull said there was 0% chance of Datsyuk coming back to the wings and about 2 days later the red wings signed him to an 18 year contract? Point is, nobody knows anything except for the suits that sign the contracts. And me, I know everything as well. Im just not spillin till somebody pays me.

    Fischer: What's the situation?

All I am saying is that its a little premature for people to say he's never going to play again. The Red Wings still own his rights and have him listed as "long term IR". Clearly by now it would be determined if it was impossible for him to ever return, and that hasn't happend which gives me reason to believe they may have better control over this then we can all speculate.

    Potential New Arena Discussion

not at all. The economic problems lie within the city and the state.....not in Ilitich's pocket. As long as he's the owner, we wont have to worry about that a bit.

    Fischer: What's the situation?

I dont know....i gotta say that all this talk of no one wanting to risk anything is hogwash. I dont really think its working like that. Fischer has never said hes giving up on the nhl, at least no interview i've ever seen of him. And i dont think im being too optimistic when i say that they'll be able to get to the bottom of whatever is happening. The guy has played hockey his whole life and it was just some freakish accident. Its like sayin, i'm never going to walk outside again cus last time i got hit with a meteorite. There is always someone that will be willing to "take a chance" imo. If not the wings, then someone as long as fischer wants to play. Just like someone will always take a chance on TO in football ragardless of the fact that his constant debaucharies will kill the whole team and not just himself.

Need answers for our roster next year

haha indeed i do....you must have some button on your keyboard the just spits out the needed internet link whenever you push it. I feel like I could ask you if the girl i'm going out with tonight has herpes or not and you would send me a link that supplies a chart of all the guys shes slept with and their sexual history as well. But i do remember casey playing for boston now actually, and i was right that casey wasnt the starter for st. louis so i wonder what events took place that landed him in net for that game.

Need answers for our roster next year

Well I know there are enough threads talking about what everyone hopes our roster will look like next season, but I was wondering if anyone knew exactly who was staying (as in, currently under a contract) and who's contract is up and will either need to be signed this summer still, or may leave via FA or retirement (hasek). I tried looking it up on this site, however the information still posted is severely out dated. As well, I would also like some input from someone who knows exactly what they're talking about (looking at you norrisnick) and not someone just talking out of there ass as to whether or not Grigorenko is really planning on coming over to Detroit. Whether he plays for GR or not, i dont care....I just want to know if his presence as a Wing is soon becoming a reality or not. *bonus question, I have a bet with my friend about who was in net for the St. Louis Blues when Steve Yzerman scored his slapper from the blue line during game 7 in overtime. I say it was Fuhr but could be wrong. Again, only answer if you know positively....dont just guess, i can do that myself.

    Injury Tally Over/Under?

bingo, to me it was blatantly obvious.
  25. martyrme19

    Pavel Datsyuk

was that really the case? I mean, how many people here would say the contract was to blame for his lack of effort if he didnt score so many points? I mean, I think him signing the contract was irrelevant. Datsyuk is a natural performer regardless, and the fact that he wasn't able to produce the last few playoffs was a fluke and nothing more. That same fluke was why the wings couldnt advance in the playoffs in past years as well. A fluke. nothing more, nothing less.
