I disagree - if my teenage son would be anything like me, he would either really enjoy it, or really deserve it. Either way, the story you would have to tell from then on would be worth it. SIGN ME UP FOR ONE OF THOSE!

how are you so sure the pens wouldnt put up a fight? I certainly think they would. I would pay a ton of money to watch this either way.

Visors can cause accidents too, and are not that uncommon. The edge of the visor can be pushed card against a players face, thus breaking their nose for example. As well, pucks and sticks can easily go under a visor because its those angles anyways that a player is most vulnerable against because its hard to see coming and is generally coming from an awkward position. Weird concept i know....that a player usually gets out of the way when they can see a puck coming towards their face.... And i already know what you are going to say about the risk of quickly deflected pucks and sticks and how in large, this is the bigger picture.... And even though that is debatable, i would simply like to say that its just the players choice - no one should take one bit of concern about it. If there is a risk either way - then it should be up to the player to decide what is best for him. Much like why i think seat belt laws are bulls***.

I'll resist taking the bait and add this - As the only OT round, yes....shootouts are stupid. But supplying it after a formal OT round = not stupid. Because at that point, nothing is lost....or in lamens terms, who really gives a s***? disagree with your point. I do not think that a coach has ever said, "hey boys, lets rest on our laurels for the next five minutes and guarantee us this point." Why? Because its a cardinal rule when coaching hockey that if you "play not to lose" - then you always end up getting scored on. You'll probably come back and say that a coach will change their strategy to be more defensive....like the left wing lock. A team doesn't do that unless its already a main part of their overall game plan. You would NEVER gamble by switching to a new scheme at the end of a game. That would do the opposite of what you are trying to do - like guarantee that OT point. No team practices any strategy that they may or may not use for 5 minutes in a game.

I thought it was funny that no one mentioned that this is our very own Ken Holland trying to push this through: Ken Holland OT Anyways - I think a lot of you have it all wrong when it comes to OT. First off - what we need to concentrate on is the allocation of points. Having 4 columns of points in the sports section of the sunday paper looks stupid, is harder to understand for non-hockey enthusiasts (and yes, if you care about your sport, you need to learn to incorporate these types of fans. Honestly, it makes it look like the NHL can't get its s*** together. SPOT ON. For those of you who were wondering, shootouts are NOT stupid - so quit saying it is. Your stupid if you don't realize that a whole pub can be completely ignoring a hockey game as it plays in the background but as soon as the first person sees that the game is headed to a shootout, people stop what they are doing AND THEY WATCH. My own league just converted to an OT shootout format because of the excitement (fans and players). Dont try to argue by saying, "well we dont care about those fans!" There are many many reasons why you should care about those "casual" fans - and I guess i'll get into those points if someone is actually stupid enough to tell me otherwise. I don't want to hear that we need to give a team a point for making it through regulation. No we dont. It isnt in the constitution. The system treats every team fairly so no one can *****. I also don't understand how people can say they think the shootout is lame and corny, but then think 3on3 hockey is a brilliant idea. 3on3 hockey is WAY more gimmicky than a shootout and though gimmicks do but asses in the seat, if you cross a certain threshold, people don't respect your sport (see the XFL). agreed

So Justin was at Lou Ha's last night - I was sporting my vintage wings shirt that I bought down the street at Dean Miller's store (Ryan and Drew's dad), and he was kind enough to chill with me while having a few drinks. A couple of points you guys might be interested in - I asked him what he expects to make in his new contract and he said somewhere just under a mil. I asked him how he communicates with his agent when getting a deal done and he basically says that he stays out of it but you just pretty much compare yourself to other guys in the league. So then I continued to tell him how I think its bulls*** that I beat him a few years back (he remembered we killed them 8-2) and now he's about to be a millionaire and i'm stuck making around 10 grand a year being a s***ty part time waiter. He laughed. So then I asked him what happens to him if the wings end up signing Modano. He said that he probably wont get as much at that point, around 800k, but that he'll be signing no matter what and he's not really thinking about it cus he's basically just waiting. I also asked him if he ever goes online to read message board posts (since I know we've have a few threads asking that question) and he goes definitely not and kind of laughed. I told him that most everything I read everyone gets a boner cus they expect you to be a huge fighter as he gets older. So I asked him if Holland and Co ever sit him down to talk about an "enforcer" role and he said no. Its all up to him, he just fights when he feels like it and there is never any talk about him bulking up or getting in more fights. I also asked if Illitch and the family are as awesome to the players as us wing fans like to believe and he said that really they are. He stressed that he's heard other players make comments about it before. He went on to tell me a little bit about how surreal it is for him to be playing for the wings since he grew up being a fan of them. I could only imagine just how surreal it must be. I meant to ask him if he knew anything about Helm's situation but I forgot. All in all it was a cool convo. Hopefully it peaked some of your curiosities. Ok, and side note about O'hallaran - My girlfriend lives in the same neighborhood as O'hallaran (sp?) but she would never tell me what house is his because she knew I would do nice things like mow his lawn, or unexpectedly clean his car. Anyways, apparently her other family members who also live across the street from him think he's a huge jerk for other reasons and they just got in another fight with him. So she got pissed off and went and showed me his house. So i was just wondering - should I post the guys address so people can send him nice letter's of appreciation or maybe leave thoughtfully paper bagged wrapped presents on his front porch? Or would this be in poor taste?
-
Lol almost. Like I said, I was merely sharing with all of you what he told me. I guess he knew more about his contract situation than some people gave him credit for. Or at least people need to start trusting me more around here My latest post was that Miller was told he'll be staying in Detroit for this next season...so if he stays i'll be 2 for 2.
-
I'm only starting this because everyone is now wondering who will be moved before the start of the season (Eaves, Miller, Ritola, Meech etc). In no way am I saying I can bet my house on it, but Miller's dad, Dean, owns a store here in East Lansing. I was talking to him and he told me that the Red Wings brass gave Drewthe green light to purchase a house - indicating that they plan on keeping him around for a little while. So I guess take it for what its worth, but you can use this bit of info when speculating who you think the red wings are going to package together to snag Rick Nash.
-
Hey! looks like what I reported from when I spoke with him at the bar is actually more true than what other posters tried to claim. I guess he knows more about his contract business than LGW posters do....who woulda thunk!??

Does Abdelkader replace McCarty? I mean really....the 3 of them do make one hell of a grind line. Though I think Abby has a ways to go before he matches McCarty's toughness.
-
I don't get it? I'm sure its funny tho.
-
I actually do. I know, its weird. I just answered a job posting on craigslist and got it. My only competition was Marty McSorely so needless to say it was an easy interview. Yzerman was my first move. Doug Brown and Shawn Burr are next. Why? Yvon Labre, thats why.

Ya i mean.... I feel like when I played, i was on MLIVE all the time just curious about what people had to say about me. Some of it was pretty brutal, but ofcourse those were from teams i played against (or at least i hope). But anyways, i just can't imagine that curiosity subsiding just because i turned pro.

Fortunately for me (hypothetically of course) Addresses are public record. There would be absolutely no legal recourse for them to take on me. Knowing the law is your friend
-
I had a pretty witty response to your last post and tho I felt like it was pretty PG rated - someone decided to get all FCC on it. In any case....you obviously haven't seen me post his address, so no reason to get all Dad about it.
-
In all honesty...If there was someone out there who would go through the lengths to do something drastic to him or his family, they wouldn't need my help. It would already be done. With that being said, if the worst that happened was he got some hate mail out of it, his yard teepeed, his porch shat on, or even his car keyed....i wouldn't lose sleep over it. just sayin.

where'd you play that year?
-
I also got a Luongo card when he was playing for canada's junior team. It was the gold plated kind of card thats suppose to make it more valuable. It came out the year he was drafted and when i looked it up on beckett at the time it said it was worth 500 bucks and he hadn't even played a game yet. Ive never gone to look to see how much its worth now because i dont really think its worth what beckett says its worth. Afterall, you gotta find someone thats willing to pay that much for it. Do you have any idea what the value of a rookie card would be compared to a card of the player on their junior team?
-
lol like i said....we'll see what everyones notions are the day he costs us a game. Just lettin ya know...i have it
-
Oh I gotchya. Fair enough. Obviously my intentions arent to mislead anyone. I appreciate the clarification now.
-
a card shop was selling a pack of old hockey cards...dont remember how much... and i bought one thinkin i could get someone cool so hey, why the hell not. I ended up getting Steve Yzerman's rookie card. needless to say I was pretty pumped.

lol well you are. Look, we were both pretty housed last night. we were just chilling and talking about hockey in our highschool days since he played with guys i played with and then i just started asking him whatever came to mind. I dont think either of us were too worried about exact figures. And like I said, i was pretty housed. My figures could easily be off as well. This is a story in a bar setting, take it for what its worth.

I'll probably play along and not post it long enough until he makes another bulls*** call. I might have a change of heart by then. Also, that doesn't mean I wont have my own biddings to do. I feel like I owe Red Wings nation a little redemption. He actually was gonna go into a whole explanation about RFA's but I told him I knew most of it already and frankly the stuff kind of bores me so I told him not to bother. I'm sure he knew the exact amount but was probably just roughing it for me after that.

check out my post i just made about talking to abby last night at the bar.
