Hahaha ding ding ding! Ya Dublin Square is a bar in East Lansing (I'm a Spartan) and it looked like they were having a hockey reunion. They were singing the fight song over and over again except replacing the line "and those spartans play good ball" with "play good hockey". good guess man - good for you. The guy was just havin a good time though nothin to bad.
-
no sir nope. That would be awesome though. and...I'm not saying warmer because of their position. Though I'm not saying the player ISNT and defenseman either.
-
Nope! warmer than Lebda though
-
Ya I thought about putting the bar name in but I wasnt sure how much help you'd guys want in guessing. The name of the bar is Dublin Square. and nope, not lebda!
-
if that ends up being the case.....yes i do.

oops...um...any way i can say I meant to say overall point standings? no...no theres not is there.... ok somehow my miraculous future telling has obviously shed light on the fact that the playoff structure will be changed sometime along the season. ya thats it. In any case what i was mainly trying to get at was that chicago will be a solid contender but fall a little short and that I think the real team to make a suprising push coming out of the central will be st. louis. yup.
-
My 2 cents: The hawks aren't THAT much better than last year. I really think the deciding factor will be on Huet and what kind of season he has. Honestly, it could swing any way. The thing Chicago has going for them is they BELIEVE they can win. There is a lot of stigma in the air that says they are #1 now just because of the news splash. My opinion is they will take this as motivation and prepare harder. If you think you're the best...thats half the battle right there. The Red Wings better hope they don't get in the opposite funk. Not saying this is the case, but it could be easy to be a player on a team that just lost a lot of players and get down on themselves. Even though they are comprised of players that basically won a cup as is, its easy to get down and out over the loss of players just as it is to get pumped when one arrives. I think SJ is still a force to be reckoned with and will finish 1st. They have a chip on their shoulders and they are still GOOD. Thorton can't be held out of the playoffs forever either. Detroit will finish second Chicago will finish a close 3rd but will lose to 6th place Stl. in the first round (you heard it here first) Calgary will finish 4th Van will finish 5th Colombus will finish 7th Dallas will finish 8th thats how its gonna be. as for the east, Montreal will make the playoffs and Washington will finish higher in the playoffs and beat Pitt IF they meet. The cup winner will be Obama

to be fair, you have no idea if his sister-in-law is even cute.

Ya i mean i voted for Lids ofcourse....but I think Brodeur is a formidable opponent. Both seem to be the same type of player that has made them the elite that they are: *consistent for years *not flashy or loud *a common denominator in a top hockey program in the last decade *consistent stats year end, year out *both have raised the holy grail *both have the most respected hardware in their respective positions *neither have 1 thing that puts them over the top - just solid, solid, consistent play Any argument you could use for Brodeur not being the best could probably be turned on Lidstrom for being overrated. People here who want to deny how good he is is probably just a bit older than me so they werent able to get over it when they swept us in 94-95. I was younger then so I have a harder time remembering.

i'm vacationing with a family right now from Pitt (penguin fans) and I just had a conversation with them about "Hockeytown". The head lady of the household firmly believes that pittsburgh should be labeled the new hockey town because they have sold out their games for a couple of years now. la-de-f***in-da. i only had to remind her that it wasnt too long ago when pittsburgh was in danger of losing their hockey team. And that there is a fine line between being called "Hockeytown" and "our team just won the cup for the first time in years so we're hoppin on the bandwagontown". I mean, i usually dont support trashing a hockey team and assuming any claims they make thats positive towards their team or city is blasphomous if it in anyway contradicts the Red Wings way of life.....but every year that the Red Wings don't win the cup, there will be one city that firmly believes they should be dubbed "Hockeytown". Michigan supports a large venue of high talent hockey: Red Wings MSU UofM NMU Tech etc. Generals Whalers Griffins not to mention youth teams up the wazoo. If I were to ever humbly give up the title (whethere its a marketing ploy or not, many citizens take pride in this label) it would only go to Minnesota. But ofcourse, their collegiate level doesn't compare, and the Wild is going to have to formulate a history....or at least a present. *note....this is in regards towards American cities and not Canadian.

I mean, i'm not sure if many people are saying he's the single greatest goalie that has ever lived...except maybe NJ fans (and i'm sure they can muster an argument as good as any goalie to have lived). But really...is there a goalie who has ever exsisted who if everyone claimed to be the greatest ever, the rest of the hockey world would claim them as extremely overrated? There are probably 5 goalies that everyone in large would agree to be the best 5 of all time. Brodeur being one of those. Any of those 5 could be interchangeably ranked. So really, it's not a stretch for a fan of Brodeur to call him the best ever. I hold the opinion that its worthless to compare a Brodeur to a Sawchuck just because if they other played during the others time....neither would be the same player or person so its impossible to compare the two. And most Red Wing fans wouldnt list Ozzie in the top 10 because we have grown up believing in a system that if we lose, its the goalies fault, and if we win its because of everyone except the goalie. Which to an extent I'm not faulting. The teams that have gone on to win the stanely cup probably could have won with about 90% of the goalies in the league. Not to take credit away from Osgood...He was always apart of those victories and someone has to keep the pucks from going in. And in recent history...he's played a role in our success simply because he's the best at what he does for the lowest price. Him playing for as little as he does gives the Red Wings the ability to keep skilled players on D or up front. That's a contribution to success on its own.

I dunno....if any team were to compare to the Red Wings elite skill since we came out of the shadow known as the dead wing era....it would be the devils. Just for their length of competitiveness. No other two teams compare. (obviously the Red Wings edge the devils out in the end but you get what im sayin) And with that - no one ever seems to count the Devils as a serious threat to win the cup - ever. Even when they did. Thats because they never seem to have that dominant lineup that would dazzle on the ice. I mean yes they play a defensive style game (like the wings) but for as long as the Devils have been competitive, there has been one common factor. Martin Brodeur. Simple as that. As long as the Devils have been dominant, so has Marty and vice versa. ......just don't really know how you can follow hockey and call him overrated. Thats all.

I laughed uncontrollably at this post as I could just imagine how much of a kick that guy must've had during the whole thing. Good for him - Thats gotta be the ultimate dream for any hockey fan. Let that be a lesson to all of us, if you ever want to find yourself somewhere you shouldnt be....just act like you belong there and no one will know the difference.

do you know when the next event is?
-
where do you live? I'll give you my photograph and you can ask Howe to sign it for me.
-
false. my best friend's grandpa is Ted Lindsay. He confirms they hate each other to this day. As well, i have a production line photo with Lindsay and Abel both having signed it. Howe refused to sign the picture because they had signed it already. (side note, Abel signed my photograph 3 days before he died. Ted Lindsay took my picture with him over to his house when he was signing it. Lindsay went to visit Abel because Abel was feeling "under the weather") Which makes it even more of a shame Howe wont sign it.

I can see Kovalchuk on the wings one way or another in a realistic scenario. Really, I can. 1 question I have is, does he have a NTC in his contract that he would have to waive? If so, I can only see this as a benefit to the Wings chances of getting him before the trade deadline this year. If not, whether we want to talk about players retiring (Homer, Malts, Lids, Drapes) one thing is for sure, we WILL have flexibility. Now, I do think Lids will come back to play longer. I DO see him taking a pay cut - but I DO NOT see him taking 3 mil a year. You have to understand....even if he was the nicest guy in the world, the guy is used to having a certain standard of living. And when you (and your family) is used to that standard of living, you simply cannot just sacrifice millions of millions of dollars. Even if Lids falls off from Norris contention, he will still be a top defenseman and will likely pull in around a 5mil range. Also, i'd like to say that I don't know about the logic of the Wings being too tired this coming season because they went so deep twice in a row. If I know my Red Wings (which I do) them coming so close to winning in Game 7 will only put more of a fire up their ass. We won withouth Hossa before - him being gone seems like a downgrade. But remember, much of our team is still intact and thats the reason why Hossa came in the first place. Hell - so we lost Kopecky? Addition by subtraction Add in Helm - we just upgraded. I think Leino will be a permanent staple on the roster this year because we'll want extra scoring. We still have variables like how Howard pans out. Hey, he could pan out to be FANTASTIC and it wouldnt even crack the top 100 suprises in Red Wings history. so come on - lets not come to conclusions yet guys. Sorry. derailed from my original point. Yes, I can totally see Kovy on the wings some way or another. Im assuming he's sick of losing and would like to taste a championship caliber team for a change. Also - i'm also assuming that he's kept a relationship with Dats one way or another seeing as didnt they play on the same line in Russia or somethin?

i got you ALL beat. im stuck in china and have been since game 6 of the ducks series. Its a 12 hour time difference here from michigan so if the game starts at 730 pm there, its 730 am here. I have class until 8am - noon and 1 until 3 EVERYDAY. and in china, you simply cant miss class. so basically what that means, is even IF i could get a streaming game on my computer - which i cant because here the internet isnt strong enough to have a streaming feed work - im in class and wont be able to watch it. so what i tried doing was downloading torrent files (a LGW member graciously helped me out with this) but unfortunately, the chinese government prhibits certain files from being accessable because they literally dont want certain information available to its citizens. which also means i cannot access Youtube.com here in china either because its completely blocked. obviously, no tv here is broadcasting wings games either. so im pretty much left with nothing except for what you guys give me here. it sucks, and its like torture. the best thing ive recently found is a site called fandome.com that the chinese government lets me access and forum members post their self made highlight clips so if im lucky someone will post a good 20 minute video of the game and so ill have someone download it for me so i can watch it without knowing the score and get at least a small feeling of the suspense that you get during playoff hockey. ive been asking everyone and anyone for help with this but ive met 2 other americans here and needless to say most chinese students dont really know a damn about hockey. if anyone knows a way they can send me a file of the wings game and i can watch the whole thing as if its live, please let me know. sorry for the long post.....but its the most depressing thing ive had to go through since finding out my ex was hooking up with goron suton.
-
ok so it seems that streaming the hockey games here wont work because unfortunately....if its 730pm in michigan, its 730 am in china which is the point of the day where ill be the busiest. so i was wondering if anyone knows a place that plays the replay of the wings game online. youtube is blocked in china so that wont work anyway. on a fun side note.....i met some russian girls last night from vladivostock russia. i thought i could impress them with my knowledge of russian hockey players but oddly enough....theyve never heard of any of them! they didnt know who any of the russian 5 were....datsyuk, or even ovechkin! i was kind of suprised. but anyways, we started to talk about music and i wanted to know if they knew any songs from igor larionov's daughters. i know awhile back when ovechkin went to the awards ceremony with one of igors daughters there was a thread about them and someone put of their songs online. does anyone know their names anymore / names of their songs? or better yet, a link to their music? that would be great, thanks.

I'm staying in a hotel in Beijing for awhile so I have no idea how i'll be able to watch this game, or the rest of the stanely cup playoffs for that matter. I've never been up to date on internet technology so could someone tell me the best way to "stream" the game to my computer. What website do i use?? Thanks for the help.

Kesler and Burrows talking trash about Backes' wife
martyrme19 replied to hillbillywingsfan's topic in General
Your arrogance about this subject really bothers me. He is NOT wrong. period. And look, its why some are accusing other of never playing the game of hockey before. Because if you DID play...ever.....you would know the place that trash talking has in a game. If you were to step on the ice for your very first hockey game and someone said something along these lines to you....and you started to piss and moan about it...guess what? Your parents are signing you up for piano lessons tomorrow. Yes you need to get over it. People want to say that a person isnt being a "man" because of these comments? How about being a man for knowing a time and place and being able to subside comments like these to concentrate on your game. Do you think any of these players go into the locker room at intermission and say to their coach, "coach....i dont know, just cant go back out there. those guys keep bringing up my wife. i just need to sit in here for the third and get my emotions out." come on really? do you think any of these guys think about it more than 2 minutes?? hell no. I recall times where i know a player im playing against (happens regularly, just as in the nhl) and ive hooked up with a girl who that player used to date. Oh you better believe thats fair game. Thats what your signing up for. And these players have signed up even more for it when they put their names on a contract for millions of dollars. And guess what??? Their WIVES signed up for it when they decided to marry a public figure. You KNOW what your getting into. and if you cant stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. go boohoo to someone who gives a damn.....because i guarantee nobody in the game will give a rats ass if this bothers you. Not your coach, not your teammates, not even your damn GM. Its the same in politics......politicians trash talk each other day and night but at the end of it all, they know that it is their JOB and it doesnt get in the way of their personal lives. I know for a FACT Bush senior and Clinton would share a glass of whiskey together even after ripping each other apart on the news. If you disagree with any of this, you're simply and sadly naive.....and you must have a really hard time in life having to get offended ALL the time. I would never want to be your friend if i had to listen to you ***** and whine about all of this. I could see it now....."hey guys, should we invite Bill over for a poker game?" "Nah, bills a *****. just tell him we decided to cancel." "God I sure would love to give Bill's wife a good bone though!" i mean.....this kind of trash talk happens in your everyday life, just as in the example i used. We know we all do it....one way or another. and all of a sudden your holier than thou because men above 30 should act like "MEN"???? PLEASE! All is fair in love and war. And guess what? PLAYOFF HOCKEY IS WAR. -

anytime i hear about someone complaining about something like this makes me wonder how few of you guys have ever played the game of hockey. good god. -
i really need to see a video of this!

Really? Some of you guys dont see it? Look, what are our two biggest problems right now? Too high of salary for certain players (to sign Franzen and Hossa) and Goaltending. So um....can we dump a little bit of salary for a *rental* goaltender for this year?? A couple guys come to mind: Maltby; was the contract extension neccessary(filled by helm)? Sammy; he's up this year anyways right(filled by leino)? Draper; i love the guy but is it time (filled by helm)? Lebda; not making a killing but having chelios/meech/prospect might be just enough salary to help out. Some of you guys wanna see flip out of here cus of his contract size....but whatever happens i see him being a staple on the second line because lets face it, we cant live in fantasy land forever. (flip, hudler, leino sounds like a good line to me). but we dump SALARY to acquire a RENTAL goalie for a REPEAT. Then in the offseason....we decide what we do in goal. Lehtonen would not be a priority in the offseason.

you guys remember what happened to that islanders goalie that colombus picked up? He was playing in a league in Europe as well and when NYI wanted him back.....even the goalie (dubliewicz??) was suprised to hear he was claimed by the jackets. He had to go through waivers just as Jagr would.
