Its not even about that. Im disputing the calling of Schneider being "the right piece at the right time". What sense does that make? Theyve lost in the 2nd and 1st round since acquiring him! Thats all im saying.
-
You'd think they could at least give accurate information. Not surprising coming from Sports Illustrated. Aside from the obvious Cup error, exactly what is Schneider the right piece to? A couple early exits? Theyve yet to do anything with him on the team.
-
Yeah...I didnt even notice the other Stastny thread till now...must be a joke. Whew, one less lunatic i have to worry about!
-
This may be, quite possibly, the most ridiculous suggestion i have ever seen on here. Unless we're talking Calder and like 10 first rounders..then Colorado might listen!

"Lets get to meet the President instead of just winning his trophy every year"
-
Lets adjust this a little... Why the heck would we want this guy on the Wings? Maltby has a whopping four goals and four assists in 70 games plus a -8 rating on a supposedly "elite" Wings team.
-
Dump Datsyuk and Lang. Keep Holmstrom and Zetterberg together, and pair up Filpulla with Smyth. The 3rd guys on those lines is to be determined. At least one of those would be another FA acquisition (or Bertuzzi depending on how he works out)
-
theres also THIS one

I dont think thats a very good reason. Homer's a good player and all...but he's no Ryan Smyth. Their numbers may not be all that much different this season, but what Smyth brings to the table as an emotional leader makes that difference between them much greater. I'm one that believes in order to have a winning team you've gotta have some North American leaders on your team. When i say leaders, i mean being a top player on the team as well...so im not talking about the Draper/Chelios types. Smyth makes a huge impact in that area. Im sure you probably dont agree that they need that, but i think they do...

Langfeld isnt lazy but he still sucks. Is that trademarked yet?
-
Yep, ive heard of Yablonski. I'd take him! (or Tetarenko ) Thats my new challenge. Ive checking out the roster of every NHL team to find someone who does less than Langfeld.
-
Im struggling to think of any player in the league that i'd take Langfeld over! Anyone?
-
Not really, but i like to use words like prototype to make it sound like i have! I think he does fit the mold of a playoff no show though..(going by the description of Samuelsson Aeo gave which i agree with) Samuelsson definitely over Langfeld, i'll agree on that. Kopecky i'd almost prefer in a grinding role for the playoffs if he actually played more physical than he showed this year. Basically what i mean by that is i wouldnt expect either to score any so i'd just go with the grittier one. But Kopecky really didnt show me jack in his 28 games, so i guess i'd have to take Samuelsson there as well. Thats not really saying anything though.
-
Hey...it doesnt get any better than Pete Weber in HD. No, im not kidding!
-
Thats part of it. I think he's the prototype of a player that disappears come playoff time. Sure, he's ok i guess for the regular season, but thats 1.2 wasted come postseason. Just my opinion of him.
-
Right on,..good assessment. I've never liked Samuelsson.
-
Also Souray, while not young, is younger than Schneider. You dont have to worry about him possibly wearing out in the playoffs.
-
You're telling people to watch more hockey, yet you dont know who Scott Hannan is? Hmmm... I would rather spend 3 mill on Souray than on Schneider. Their offense/defense abilities are pretty much a wash but Souray brings toughness to the table as an extra asset over Matt. Im not saying we should necessarily sign him, just that i'd take him over Schneider if given the choice.
-
Nah, im gonna keep this for a while.
-
Datsyuk will cost too much, if he's a playoff no show again...he goes. Schneider can score all he wants in the regular season, if he's having defensive gaffs and showing his age in the playoffs like i expect will happen he goes as well. Use that money on a FA defenseman who's younger.Maltby obviously should go no matter what, and Samuelsson is another guy who should not be brought back if he does nothing in the playoffs. Just to name a few. See, this is why i said theres really no point in having threads like this now. Because we dont know whats gonna happen! We dont know who's gonna play well, or who's gonna stink it up. Opinions now can be completely different in another couple months.
-
I dont get this AT ALL. Theres quite a few guys who should not be back if the team doesnt do well again. What the hell is the purpose of recycling the same squad back out there? Playoffs is what matters.
-
Cleary signed a 2 year deal this season. You know, threads like this are silly. You're bringing back basically the entire team, and well, thats fine and dandy IF the Wings were to do very well in the playoffs. But what if they lose in the 1st round again? I would certainly hope you'd be against the notion of making little change. Why dont we wait till the end of the season to start threads like this! Its completely pointless to discuss it now.

Easy win Reich. Booter should look for a rematch after that one..
-
Yeah, the Wings game is only on the NON HD version of NBC. Thats strange.
