An apology is supposed to mean something? He was probably just trying to avoid a fine! NN- this isnt the first time we've went back and forth on a fighting issue. I definitely feel you're anti-fighting, so obviously any time its showcased like this you arent going to like it no matter what. And what if you dont respond AT ALL? Wouldnt that be, as you like to say, rather chickens***? Do you attack the Wings in a similar fashion when they dont do ANYTHING?

A legal check sure as hell doesnt bother me, nor does a dirty one actually! Hell, Bryan Marchment is one of my all time favorite players. But just because dirty hits dont bother me, doesnt mean i feel they should go without revenge. One of, if not, the best aspects of the game of hockey is the ability for players to police themselves. When I dont see it in obvious situations i get pissed. Chris Drury is a star for the Sabres, Chris Neil is a tough guy for Ottawa. Neil puts on in Buffalo eyes a dirty hit on their star. For me, its Hockey101 that Buffalo gets revenge on an Ottawa star...and obviously Neil at some point as well. If they had done nothing, and a thread was started about just the hit, you wouldve seen me in that thread blasting the Sabres (as i do the Wings for never responding) I still think your comparison to the Blues game is totally off base.. You keep saying the hit was legal...are you telling me if your sitting on the Sabres bench you'd think it was legal? Remember these guys dont have access to slo mo during the game to analyze. Seeing it live on the bench of course it looked dirty to them...whether it really was or not.

Now that i think about it, if Pitt gets Laraque AND Boynton....they should then offer up Ryan Malone and picks to St Louis for Guerin or Tkachuk.

Carter going for a 5th has no impact on Tkachuk/Guerin whatsoever. Carter was waaaaaaay down on the totem pole of available guys.

Orpik is just a once in a great while kinda guy. Pittsburgh does currently have some toughness, but they obviously dont have a main guy or a 1-2 punch. Laraque and Boynton would certainly rectify that.

...Petrovicky, Ruutu, Armstrong, Thorburn, Orpik. Not to say all those guys would be in the lineup at the same time...but thats scary tough.

I think that would be outstanding for Pitt to also get Boynton, which it mentioned in the article. Crosby sure as hell wont have to be worried about protection anymore, Pittsburgh would be right up there with Anaheim as toughest team in the league. They'd have numerous guys on the team ready to throw down.

So Neil gets attacked, but in the meantime your star is down and out. I'd say that would be a nice tradeoff for Ottawa. By going after their star, you send the ultimate message that that will not be tolerated. That is a horrible example about Kocur/Quenneville. Theres a big difference between tough guys going after non-fighters for no real reason and going after them because you felt there was a dirty hit by one on your star. Im no baby at all about contact, thats why i watch hockey. Not once have i cried about the hit and attacked Neil, im just explaining to you that the need for retaliation was more than warranted.

What if Bertuzzi doesnt even come "back" at all? Or if he plays 1 or 2 games, and calls it a season? Even if the Wings just gave up Williams to get him, its still a major loss in the sense they didnt add anybody.

Not if its revenge oriented. For instance, lets say Drury checked Neil and Neil responded by dropping his gloves and beating him down. Now if you're Buffalo, how do you react? Wait around and do nothing till you get your hands on Neil, or teach Ottawa a lesson and get immediate payback by sending Peters after Heatley? You do the latter...no question. Thats not to say you still dont go after Neil at some point, but you DO NOT let s*** like that go down unanswered. I think youve watched one too many Wings games Im sure you'll say my comparison is not the same as what happened, but a cheap hit by a tough guy on a star would fall in a similar category. Ruff wasnt happy with the hit, and like i said he was a fighter...so he would know what the code is all about!

Lindy Ruff was a fighter, i'll trust he knows WAY more about the code and how to respond to hits like that than any of us.

Im under the impression that Buffalo felt this was a dirty hit (as i said i havent seen it). Doesnt matter how you saw it after replays, its how they viewed it at the time.

I havent seen the hit, but if Buffalo felt it was dirty or that Drury got blindsided by Ottawa's tough guy Chris Neil...the Senators stars are then fair game. You take out our star...we go after yours. Thats THE CODE! Its like in baseball....if someone intentionally beans your star player, do you then wait for the other teams bottom of the order scrubs to come up to retaliate? No, you hit their star when he comes up to bat.

Why should they get suspended? As far as i know, its just the game misconduct and thats it. Ray Emery is probably the toughest goalie in the league, so i cant blame Peters for going after him,...as Emery vs Biron is the equivalent of McGrattan fighting someone like Briere. Gotta love the way Buffalo and Ruff in particular stood up for Drury. Thats the mark of a team thats united.

If they were to get Guerin and a defenseman, i dont think its out of the question. They'd have a shot. Theyve now reached the point where their draft picks are much less valuable, not only because of their young talent depth, but just based on pick position as well. Theyve got their core for years to come, nows the time to look outside through trading and free agency to put the rest of the pieces together. Them giving up 2 1st rounders isnt life or death like it would be for most other teams. Ideally i'd rather make that a 1st and 2nd along with a player instead though. I still like my idea of Pitt going for the gusto and getting both Guerin and Brewer. Maybe getting the package would get them more of a discount. Kinda like buying one shirt and getting the second half off...you know?

Why? Pittsburgh is probably the one team that can give up draft picks and not even have it be a big deal to them. Theyre already loaded with young talent. A veteran gritty scorer like Guerin is exactly what they need. (and a defenseman obviously!)

A team with young talent like Pittsburgh would probably take them up on that offer.
