I always play the team as is like the real one...then end up quitting after 40 or 50 games cause my team sucks
-
That means nothing when one is a non playoff team. I still have a feeling Davidson wont trade to Illitch...hope im wrong but that little grudge may linger. I certainly wouldnt doubt it, and its not like the Wings will be throwing a great offer out there.
-
This goes to show that even if a player is due for a free agency, if that player is coveted by multiple teams the price tag will still be very high because of the competition....you wont be able to steal the guy with a lame offer. I dont see the Wings outbidding anybody, most likely they'll settle for somebody that no one else is interested in.

Let this be a lesson to all you "Williiams/Lilja/draft pick for (insert good player's name) people. Welcome to reality!

HELL NO to full cages, are you kiddin'?
-
I cant tell you how much im looking forward to the baseball video games to come out in a few weeks! I'll finally be able to control a good team for a change
-
I definitely like Boynton and unlike the vast majority of posters, i do think the Wings need another defenseman. However, unless Boynton isnt playing well i cant see Phoenix just giving him away like that. He would for sure cost something of significance in the prospect category along with that draft pick. Meech i think has no trade value at all.

I totally agree with the team toughness thing. But at this point in the season theres only time for a quick fix....and adding on a couple guys now is better than going in with nothing. I do know what youre saying though.. Fedoruk i think could take regular shifts (in playoffs as well), one of the few heavies that can. His 13 pts for the year actually puts him ahead of a few Wings. Something like a Franzen - Draper - Fedoruk line would probably work well.
-
Well right now theyve got Langfeld in there who is an absolute scrub. Anybody could take that spot! But even when the team is completely healthy, if that pure heavy is someone like Fedoruk he definitely is worthy of an everyday spot.
-
Im hoping Fedoruk put on a nice, little audition with that breakaway goal he had, god would he look good in a Wings jersey! Guerin/Fedoruk or Tkachuk/Fedoruk....that would make such a difference i think.
-
Thats why your supposed to have at least 2 guys who'll scrap....one guy who handles the heavies (your Boogaard, McGrattan, etc) , and another who handles the middleweights who get out of line ( Mayers, Torres, etc).

Remember, there are other suitors out there. You dont think that offer could easily be topped? You better throw Hudler in there to have a chance, at least he has upside that might interest the Flyers. Williams doesnt. Now please explain the logic behind a non playoff team in CBJ acquiring a checking line veteran who's on the verge of free agency? Makes no sense whatsoever. That might as well just be Lapointe for Lilja straight up...which the Hawks would say hell no to. Ellis and Kolanos might wouldnt even get a 7th round pick combined! They are absolutely worthless. Meech isnt that much better, he also has no trade value. Makes no sense at all for Pitt....who already have Staal and Crosby. Why would you even put that lame 5th rounder in there...

Anyone who'd rank Yzerman ahead of Lemieux and Gretzky on the all time list is a blatant homer, plain and simple. And even worse than that is the Zetterberg/Crosby talk! If the Pens were to make a list of players they'd swap for Crosby, Zetterberg's not in the top 5.
-
Since Edmonton isnt set on trading him and dont have to, you can be damn sure he wont be had for anything like Hudler and draft picks. I dont think the Wings would pony up anything that would interest the Oilers...so i'd rule it out.
-
Honestly? No way. Steve Yzerman was not as good as Gretzky and Mario...im sorry but thats not even up for debate imo.
-
Zetterberg's very good but lets be serious people, to even be mentioned with guys like Crosby and Ovechkin i'd think you should at least be top 20 in scoring.
-
I'd say only Lidstrom. But even then, not that it would happen in a million years mind you, but if say someone like Calgary called up and offered a deal with Phanuef (and you were able to lock him up long term), i dont think theres any way you cant take that trade. I didnt list Zetterberg but its not like i'd be trying to trade him, just saying the possiblity would be open for the right price. I seriously cant believe a Zetterberg for Crosby or Ovechkin trade is even being debated. Anyone who wouldnt take that trade is insane.

Joe Thornton WILL fight though, and has many times in his career, thats really the point. You dont have to do it all the time. He doesnt do it often, but he is actually a damn good fighter especially for a guy of his abiility. Him, Iginla, Lecavalier,...these are the guys i think of when i think power forward. The fact that these guys will fight and also have the capability of beating guys down with their fists separates them into a different category from a guy like Forsberg imo. Cam Neely is the classic power forward example of the past...and Cam fought. So i base it off of that..

Buying out McCarty was the right move, however, not replacing him was the wrong move.

Newbury of the Leafs taken out on a stretcher

Yeah, both are middleweight fighters. Petrovicky doesnt fight very often, but he's pretty tough. I'd say he's pretty much ranked around the same as someone like Jamal Mayers in terms of fighting ability. -
32) Lyle Odelein
-
People's opinions of what constitutes a power forward differ i guess, mine happens to include the ability to fight. Its kinda like how the definition of grit tends to vary.
-
Theres no way that they dont acquire anybody, i think its guaranteed they get at least one player who will be inserted right into the everyday lineup (meaning it wont just be a Cross type depth trade). Even if the Wings dont trade someone off the roster they already have the available cap space to add somebody. Detroit's certainly not the type of team who will just let that leftover money sit there...

When i saw the fight happen, after my initial all out excitement reaction of "holy f*ck that dude got smoked!!!!!!!!!!!!!" , the next thought going through my head as Newbury lie on the ice was here comes the anti-fight clowns again! But if there is a bright side to this, i think its good that Newbury's injury appears to have come from hitting his head on the ice and not just from a devastating punch. WIth guys like Boogaard breakin' bones i think the last thing us fight supporters need is another major injury caused by a punch. Yeah the punch is what led to him hitting his head...but its not quite the same. -
I agree with Barnes! You dont have to fight 10 times a year, but imo you do have to be a willing guy at least to be considered a power forward in my book.
