The fact that Fedoruk dropped the gloves last week has him way back up on my radar. I think he just fell down right away or whatever, but still, ive been wondering about his face since i believe he hadnt fought at all since going with Boogaard way back. There's absolutely a need for a physical 3rd/4th liner. If someone like Hudler has to sit so be it, its all about adding a player to the linuep who provides a different dimension to the team. In a perfect world, Guerin and Fedoruk would be the 2 guys they'd get.

Doesnt matter what he'd re-sign for, its all about the fact he's a waste of a roster spot. I do admit he seems to be throwing more hits lately from what ive seen, but still, you can easily find other players out there who are much more consistent hitters and more stand-upish than Maltby for the 4th line. His role as a penalty killer is nowhere near as important anymore.

On the brightside at least he's having alot of time for his face to recover after all the beatings he's taken this year

Yeah i just saw it again and his head did indeed hit the ice. It was already 5-5 when the fight happened. -

Yeah it looked like Petro landed a couple in the brief flurry, with the last one totally flooring him in devastating fashion! -

I watched it, holy crap im sure glad i had this game on! Quick unexpected fight off the faceoff, after a few seconds of jostling both went toe to toe and Petro smoked him. From what i could see Newbury's head didnt appear to smack the ice causing the KO....looked like a punch did all of the damage. I havent seen anything like this since geez...Kypreos/Vandenbussche maybe. Ironically Kypreos was also a Leaf... Newbury was on the ice for at least 5 minutes and carried off on a stretcher. -
If you're a DEFENSEMAN with shortcomings playing DEFENSE, how can you be considered a "very good player"? That makes no sense.

Maltby is one of those guys that it makes absolutely no sense to bring back...i'll be furious if they do. The team has other penalty killers now, he's on the downslide, and theres no room for him anymore.

[insert obvious dropping the gloves with Holland and him turtling joke]

Lapointe is not a "big tough guy", at least not when comparing him to Simon. I'll take either one, preferably Simon...but Asham is the one i really want. Hell ive been saying that for 5 years!

Its in the Ansar article, toward the bottom, the guy giving him the comment about the need for grit and toughness.

Getting rid of those 3 would be a major league step in the right direction. Unfortunately im sure at least 2 of the 3 will be back.

Wow, apparently all Jeff's think alike. (wisely that is ) If i didnt know any better i'd say that question was from me....its 100% spot on to my feelings. I think ive found my double!

lol, just the thing about him not immediately tossing the gloves and fighting Ryan Johnson after he steamrolled Hasek.

Funny you should mention that. I was just thinking yesterday watching the game about a Kronwall/Jackman swap. Obviously it would be Kronwall +, but it has no chance of happening..... I believe it was Heaton who mentioned Kronwall as being really the only young defenseman in the system with alot of potential. I completely agree, i just dont see much there at all. So i think it would be completely absurd to trade Kronwall for a forward.

I dont believe you need the prototypical basher, ala Boogaard, unless its for spot duty situations to neutralize a rival's heavy. But, I do think you have to have guys on your team who will fight. Carolina wasnt very tough, but they did (do) at least have Commodore and Craig Adams (and to a lesser extent Kevin). There were a few others who were at least willing to mix it up if need be as well. What this team needs are guys like Travis Moen...who Anaheim acquired for not much at all (Holmqvist). Why dont we ever take shots with guys like this? Thats what i hate the most! Instead we have schmos like Hussey who you know will never be ANYTHING at the NHL level. It may just be the minors but i still consider that a wasted roster spot! Now look at Moen, not only providing toughness and physical play but also 7 goals. We need to start getting physical players like this into the system. I wish we would trade for someone like Eager, I think theres enough ability there that we could develop him into a solid contributor.

Uhh...2 things. First, Claude Lemieux is 41 years old. Second, Draper isnt even close to being the caliber of player that Claude was. And when i say not even close, i mean NOT EVEN CLOSE!

No way, i can guarantee it'll be for more than that. It'll be for a prospect or two probably.
