SFE: Wings looking at 'star player' by deadline
Lou_Siffer replied to Mighty Wings's topic in General
Sorry my sarcasm detector isnt working today, so im not sure if youre serious...but if you are thats insane! Williams/Hudler isnt even in the same atmosphere as Horton. I'd bet Florida wouldnt even trade Horton for Zetterberg. -
Well this team is definitely missing something, and no i dont mean Ben because it wouldve been bad to re-sign him, so i am all for Webber! It cant hurt to sign him for the rest of the season, i think it would be great and will definitely get my interest with the Pistons back up.
-
I think by "veteran leadership", they would mean someone around 29-30 years old...you know, someone experienced who still has alot of quality miles left in him. What the hell sense would it make for a losing team to trade for Schneider, who they essentially could only have for the rest of the year? Come on, use some logic man! Now its a moot point anyway because theres no way in hell Schnieder will be traded, but if he was, the only teams that would be realistic options are playoff teams in the East looking for an offensive defenseman Depending on the status of his face, Fedoruk would be the most obvious choice to go after. But if hes not able to fight..then theres no point.

Is that Oregon game on the road? If so, then yeah thats definitely a quality opponent id say. If its at Michigan...then not really. Correct me if im wrong but doenst Michigan have some poor performances in recent history visiting Pac 10 schools? Losses to UCLA, Washington, and Oregon come to mind...im not sure if theres others off-hand. Granted those were with Navarre i believe but still, Michigan seems to have problems going over there.

Phoenix wins again. Sorry guys but its officially time to put all Doan talk on hold, no way he is he coming here the way things are going.

New England's 2 picks are 22 and 28, definitely too low for the Lions to drop. I could see the Pats making a deal though to move up, but it wouldnt be that high. I have Thomas dropping to 5 just because of needs. Tampa needs to start building their D back up with youth as theyre getting older, so i just feel theyll go that way. Cleveland is in dire need of a RB, i mean they cant possibly think Reuben Droughns can get it done. The Browns havent had a good RB in forever it feels like, they tried with WIlliam Green but one bust cant stop them from drafting Peterson. As for them taking a Quinn, i dont theyll give up on Frye JUST yet. RB is a bigger need.

^^ Im much, MUCH more upset about Jack not being in than Trammell..

Here's what im thinking right now for the top 5: 1)Oakland- QB JaMarcus Russell 2) Detroit - DE Gaines Adams 3) Cleveland - RB Adrian Peterson 4) Tampa Bay - DT Alan Branch (doesnt matter who wins the coin flip) 5) Arizona - OT Joe Thomas Im not really sure what Oakland is gonna do. On one hand they obviously could use Russell, but on another Randy Moss is demanding trade which opens up a possible scenario to trade down and then take Calvin Johnson to replace him. However, taking Russell will actually improve their team immediately, as he could step in right away and be better than Brooks and Walter. Taking Johnson still really wouldnt solve anything for the short term unless they could find a QB via free agency. Im starting to convince myself that Gaines Adams to Detroit is a lock. I just have that feel with the whole Marinelli/D-line connection that this will be "his" pick. Peterson to Cleveland just seems like a no brainer...and an even bigger no brainer is Thomas to Arizona if he's still on the board. Branch to Tampa is more of less a guess, im sure theyll go D though. I see Brady Quinn going at #7 to Minnesota. The Vikes HAVE to make that pick..

Im a monster Tigers fan, but to be honest, Alan Trammell in the Hall of Fame im really not so sure about.. Theres no debate at all between Ripken and Trammell.

So through all this BCS bickering, when its all said and done the best 2 teams were actually Florida and LSU (slightly over USC imo) and not Ohio St and Michigan. I need to go put on Around The Horn now...those guys know their s*** dont they?
-
I refuse to be a believer in Garcia! I think playoff time will be where the true Garcia shows up, so i smell a Giants upset! (well at least thats what im hoping for) Patriots over Jets in the other one

Before we call Martz's offense garbage, lets give him another offseason to acquire more of the players that fit the system. Im not saying we can win a SB with Kitna, my post was directed at eva unit zero's statement about Harrington having less turnovers here, hence him being a better QB. Anybody who knows anything at all about the Lions knows that Joey hardly ever threw the ball downfield. Thats what i mean about high risk/high reward, what has a better chance of getting intercepted,...a ball thrown down the field or a 5 yard dump off to your fullback? (on 3rd and 10 of course in famous Joey fashion)
-
Hmmm...too many people like New Orleans, thats a bad sign.
-
Once again, another post where you ONLY look at the stats and nothing else. You wanna know why Joey had less picks? Because he never took any chances and all of his passes were 5 yard checkdowns! Enter Kitna, who plays under a high risk/high reward Mike Martz system. Look at Mark Bulger...he threw 14 in '04 and was on pace for 18 picks in '05. Kurt Warner had years of 18 (in 11 games!!) and 22 INTs. Im not excusing the fact that Kitna made alot of mistakes, but what i am saying is that alot of those are a product of the system and this notion that Joey was better because he threw less interceptions (under Mooch's bland safe offense) is way off the mark!
-
You must be being sarcastic, or else that post makes no sense! The only thing on this team that you could even say "took a step forward" was the passing game with Kitna/WIlliams/Furrey. So if you're saying Kitna was a step backwards, what on earth were the improvements in the other areas?
-
Well the most obvious one is that he's 9 years younger, so im looking from more of a long term perspective. Trade for him then sign him to a 4yr deal. Just from what ive seen and the praise he gets around the league i think he has a bright future and his time is now entering his 4th year. It would be our oppurtunity to get a Rivers type who'll be ready to go mentally rather than starting over and drafting a Troy Smith. Could he be just be another Rob Johnson? Sure, but you gotta take a chance sometimes.

A couple things i'd like to see the Lions do: Draft Joe Thomas - the fact that Jones is gonna be injured makes it even more important now to work on that damn line! So draft Thomas, and sign a Guard via free agency. Trade Shaun Rogers, and use that money towards signing DE Justin Smith (if he hasnt been re-signed, my info might not be up to date) and to re-sign Redding. Also use the 2nd rd pick for the D-Line. Rogers just needs to go cause of his attitude. Sign Chris Brown - now, i dont know if he's injured or what, but i know he only played in 5 games this year. Im assuming he just got pushed out of the backup job by Lendale White. But Brown could be a nice fill in for KJ, as he's always put up decent numbers when he's played. Platoon him with Brian Calhoun i guess and hope for the best! Trade for Matt Schaub - This one totally goes under the wishful thinking category as we've already got Kitna and McCown under contract. But if we could find a way to trade McCown somewhere i think Schaub would finally be our good long term QB. No hes not proven and we'd be taking a chance signing him to a big extension, but i really think he's gonna be good. I know this wont happen though.. And for the love of god RE-SIGN Furrey! What are we gonna do...let him walk, sign some guy like Dennis Northcutt and be back to the days where we only had 1 legit reciever in the lineup?

Good points for sure, and i do think San Diego is a complete team. But it all comes down to Rivers vs Belichick for me like i said. Now if the Jets upset N.E. than its a moot point, but i dont know...i can just picture Rivers having a real tough time with the defensive schemes he'll throw at him.
-
I went with Baltimore and New Orleans. The NFC is just so wide open and every team has problems, but the Saints have some solid road wins so i can see them winning at Chicago. My original pick at the start of the season was Dallas, and i still think on paper they have the best talent. Part of me still wants to stick it out and say they'll bounce back from these losses and return to form, so im kinda torn! In the AFC, i think Baltimore just has "it" this year with McNair. San Diego is a great team but if they have to play New England, theres no way i can bet against Belichek facing a young QB in his first playoff game. As for the Super Bowl, if N.O does make it theyll be like the NFLs version of the cinderella Detroit Tigers and fall short.at the end.

Im very excited about the games today, some interesting matchups! I like Tennessee to stomp Penn St, Arkansas to beat Wisconsin fairly handily, Nebraska by a FG over Auburn, West Virginia over Georgia Tech, and Oklahoma by 3 scores over Boise St. As for the grand daddy of them all, I think USC takes it by 7 but i expect it to be a real close one.
-
I cant believe i missed the Brashear/Belak fight after talking about it! I gave up on it after the 2nd period when it was 3-2...damn me!!
-
You know, it might be smart of me to get my ass off the computer and go shopping. Once again, its Christmas Eve and i havent bought a damn thing! And i still have no idea what to get anyone either! Should be fun.
-
This Caps/Leafs game has some potential to be pretty physical. I cant see how Brashear vs Belak doesnt go down! Ondrus is in as well...maybe him and Sutherby, or Bradley if hes playing.
-
Of course it could just be all talk, but i read in the paper yesterday that the Bears are not planning on resting their starters. They want to stay sharp. And when you think about it, considering Grossman still needs all the work he can get i think theres definitely something to that. The defense could rest guys at times, but i expect everyone on the O to be out there. Hell they could use 3rd stringers on their defensive line and still manhandle our line anyway.
-
If Millen gets fired the #1 pick could actually turn out to be a pretty nice farewell present for us. They need to be smart and trade down. Still stay in the top 10, but at least add a 2nd rounder. Hopefully theres someone out there who'd wanna leapfrog the Raiders to take Quinn if we have the #1. Me and a buddy were joking that the Lions should just take 7 offensive lineman in the draft, 2 of them are bound to pan out!
