I feel the same about Jones, and I really do root for him and feel happy when he gets a save. Its not really like me at all to genuinely feel for a player when he's down, but i do with Jones. Probably has to do with how he was so emotional when he got traded and then jumped at the oppurtunity to come back here. And he does seem like a good guy as well. I guess i'll give him the benefit of the doubt in that it was his 2nd inning of work...but it is time to swap roles with Rodney. I dont wanna see Zumaya as closer just yet as i see him being extremely valuable in his current role. Ledezma called up for the pen, which i just mentioned a few days ago thats the only place i wanna see him. Bobby Seay sent down.
-
Todd "The Demon Drop" Jones...what a way to waste Zumaya's 2 innings. I hate Craig Monroe, its official.
-
Crap I shouldnt have took down my Kenny for Cy Young avatar, oh well, dont wanna jinx him now by bringing it back!!
-
Is Granderson becoming clutch or what?? Once that error happened and Inge was on 2nd, i knew they had it even when Curtis got 2 strikes on him! Even Alexis Gomez had the gum going in like the 10th lol. I sure hope Rogers is ready to deal 9 innings tonight.
-
My thinking with Granderson is that you typically put your best all around hitter at 3rd. I think he'll be a 25-30 homer guy, and those strikeouts probably wont go down, he had them in the minors too. Like I said dont get me wrong he's doing an ok job at leadoff, i'm just wondering if he could produce even more surrounded by some power! Also my thinking is that he could be the lefty power bat that would break up the string of righties. But im sure it'll be harder to acquire a real leadoff type anyway so its a moot point, since guys like Burnitz and Jenkins are players teams actually want to give up. Kazmir vs Verlander is gonna be sweet as hell, phone definitely wont be answered from 7-10!

Not really much at all going on in terms of hitting prospects down in the minors, Clevlen still playing horrible and batting .203. Maybin is just returning after a finger injury kept him out for a while. One funny stat i found down at Toledo is Mike Hessman. He has 21 hits for the year, and 11 of them are home runs! (batting .130 lol). On the pitching front Humberto Sanchez won his first start at Toledo going 5 2/3 giving up just 1 run and striking out 5. After pitching extremely well at Erie (5-3, 1.74 ERA with more SO than IP) i'd say he'll be the guy to get the call next if Miner were to flop. I would hope so, I dont wanna see Ledezma back unless its in a relief role.

Another lefty bat i heard they might go after by the deadline is Brewers OF Geoff Jenkins. I do like Jenkins, but i dont wanna see another big strikeout guy in this lineup. If theres a chance we could get a lefty contact hitter with some speed, i think thats a much bigger need than another power hitter. If we could throw that guy at leadoff and move Granderson down in the order to more of a power spot like 6th i'd be all for it. Not that Curtis isnt doing ok at leadoff, but his future isnt batting leadoff anyway its batting 3rd. Oh, and i dont believe anyone has mentioned it, but DY checked himself into a substance abuse program last week.

Oh....and note to Leyland: Please do not ever play Santiago and Wilson in the same game together. Christ throw Infante in there when Guillen and Polanco need rest, i really dont think it matters that Santiago can hit lefty!!

Im wondering myself why that bum Gomez is the supposed defensive replacement...especially after booting that key ball against the Sox where he wouldve easily gunned someone. Its not like Thames has looked bad out there, unless im just forgetting some stuff i havent seen many bad plays at all out of him. I'm pretty much fed up with Monroe, I agree on giving Thames the regular job, and having Monroe be a spot OF and DH. I do find it kind of odd that Infante is used as DH when he plays, and not at LF with Thames being DH. You'd think a good defensive guy like Omar could just play anywhere, they say he's capable of playing OF but he must not be doing all that well there in practice...or else it just doesnt make much sense. I like Miner, i think he'll be around a while. Like his changeup! And hey he's played against 2 really tough offenses so far. Watched some of Andrew Miller's game yesterday, that slider is just devastasting. I have no doubt he'll be ready for the majors in '07. That rotation is gonna be killer next season.

Sweet, I know they liked Stubbs from Texas but with Miller falling to them cant pass him up. Better show him the money though, as im sure Illitch will.

Article in Sundays paper about possibilities for adding a left handed bat by the deadline. The names mentioned were Cliff Floyd, Jeromy Burnitz, and Aubrey Huff. I think they do need to make some kinda move cause you cant count on DY at this point. Of those choices i'd go with Huff. He's had some injury problems and is only hitting .180, but that just makes him cheaper to get. Floyd would cost too much and i just dont think he's worth it, and Burnitz would just be another homerun or strikeout hitter...we already have too many of those!!! Also Spurling was mouthing off a bit about his demotion. I cant say i really blame him, i never felt he shouldve been sent down the first time. Reading between the lines he pretty much said he wants out, and well, we dont need bad vibes around here. I smell a very small trade coming soon..
-
Yeah, thats why i said 3 yrs is the max i'd give him. People just cant be sentimental like they are with the WIngs and say "hey give him his 6 years"...he's 32 yrs old. Joe D is smart though, I have confidence that he'll do whats right. With Cato's salary being gone now, Wallace not re-signing isnt the end of the world. We could get a new center and a big upgrade for the bench.
-
If Wallace wont re-sign unless its a 6 yr max deal, then you have to say goodbye. Offer him 3 yrs, take it or leave it. I know he's a cornerstone but you have to think long term as well.
-
That was like a punch to the gut seeing that ball go over the fence. F'in Jones...
-
nevermind on Leyland...i think this Duke Lacrosse crap got him bumped or something

Soccer is the only sport ever where i watched entire games just to hear the announcer..."GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!!!!!!!!!!!!" Really, I knew little about soccer but i was addicted to the Univision channel for Andres Cantor i think his name was. The one World Cup where Brazil beat Italy in the shootout i was watching games all day long the whole tournament. The old FIFA video games helped me get into it too. I havent followed it at all in years though..

I have strict rules about not answering the phone when the Tigers are batting or when Zumaya's pitching lol. Thats surprising that they didnt rave about the heat he was bringing,...oh well, they'll see whatsup sooner or later! Nice to see that Berman gave the boys props though Leyland will be on the ESPNews Hotlist at 3 pm for those interested.

I think St Louis for Giguere seems like a more fair trade. Vinny for Giguere just seems a little too much in Anaheims favor, unless they were to throw in another quality player/prospect in the deal.
-
I was extremely happy with this win, especially with it being on national TV. It annoyed me though that the ESPN feed was blacked out locally, i like getting different announcer perspectives on the Tigs. Blak- How were the announcers reacting to Zumaya on ESPN? Was the radar gun just wowing them??? I know he hit 101 at least like 3 or 4 times.
-
Cleary has been in the NHL for years now...i hardly understand the give him a chance logic you seem to be implying Dan Cleary becoming a star is laughable..
-
s*** I might have to change my Cy Young avatar to Verlander now!! (depending on tomorrow!) I love the way he has the ability to just crank up that fastball to 101 when he wants to. You watch him one inning and he's throwing 95-97 and you think well, maybe he lost some zip tonight...then next thing you know its 98...then 99....then 100+!
-
If Leyland sticks with his philosophy, it will be Miner.
-
Its really crazy looking up and down the lineup and seeing so many HR's and RBI's all spread out. I remember back one year when we didnt have anybody hit 20 HR's (or maybe we had 1 guy..)...now we could have as many as 6 or 7 easily! I think Spurling does deserve to be up here, but im not really confident in Colon in the rotation. Leyland still hasnt made a decision but bringing up Chris makes you think Colon will start. They still could make a switch but im kinda hoping to see what Zach Miner's got. I like the idea of bringing up the guys who are playing the best, regardless of experience. Heck i wouldnt be surprised if Humberto Sanchez got the call from Erie. I love watching Pudge after we get the final out, it just always gives me that Marlins feeling when they won it all with him.
-
Nope, not too early. Hell ive already got Kenny winning the Cy Young lol

Kansas City is just putrid, its hard to even come up with a word to describe how bad that team is. I mean theres just NOTHING there. Sweeney better hurry up and get healthy so he can get the hell outta there! I had yesterday's game on the radio, and im proud to say that i stuck with it even after the 1st inning!
