Looks pretty realistic to me, maybe one more prospect or pick on top of that i'd say. But can we beg them to take Sammy while we're at it?
-
Flip and Ericsson....and thats just to get things started!
-
I really dont think Jokinen's going anywhere. When the other major guy is taken off the market, all the focus is now on Hossa. How does his price not shoot up???
-
Exactly. Now that Sundin is eliminated, the price for Hossa shoots up even more as he's now the only huge name left. Supply goes down, demand goes up.
-
And in Atlanta theres one man with a huge smile on his face, Don Waddell. The price for Hossa just went from huge to massive, in which case, i think in all honesty we can all but officially eliminate the Wings chances at getting him. If Holland thought the price was high before, its gonna be insane now...
-
Maybe Grittzkey can stuff Hudler into his duffel bag and take him too!
-
I guess we just differ on this then. I havent liked Maltby for some time now, so i dont have the attachment like you have. Doesnt mean i dont appreciate what he did in the Cup years, but i just think its been time to move on. Yes, theres other problems that are more pressing, but smaller things like this just add up.
-
It takes some serious dedication to the game for a guy like him who's had a long NHL career, to be still playing in the minors and nearing the age of 41. I couldnt believe it when i saw his name on the Manitoba roster! I could see him being a good coach some day.

Vancouver was also a bottom half of the league team in terms of spending in Burke's last few years in Vancouver. Holland had twice the money to work with. Who knows what the Canucks couldve done with a bigger bankroll. The cap era is the only fair way to evaluate GM's as its a level playing field.

Still having Maltby is a perfect example of one of my main gripes with Holland, loyalty is good to a certain point....but has gone overboard in the case of Kirk. Im sorry, i bitched when he was signed to that extension and nothing has changed my mind. Under no circumstances did he warrant 3 more years. He is anemic offensively, not nearly the agitator he once was,...and has just plain wore out his stay here. IMO it appears more and more that Kris Draper is starting to follow that same path...if Franzen is supposed to be the new shut down center, then you let Draper go. Its as simple as that...redundancy has become a big problem here. But here we are with him signed for another 3 years as well, and what are the odds Holland would ever deal him? Zero, because of loyalty.

McIver is a pretty tough, scrappy guy....but thats somebody that McCarty has to do well against if he's supposed to come back. For comparison purposes, McIver fighting wise is along the lines of a Jamal Mayers you could say. If he looked bad in that one...then its going to be really ugly if he tries going with any legit NHL tough guy.

"So much sense"? I wish i were involved in this discussion so I could set you both straight. It makes no sense, absolutely none, for the Thrashers to want Dan Cleary in a trade for Hossa. He is a UFA, who is out until playoff time to boot, what in the world would be the point in trading for him? So they trade for Cleary, they dont make the playoffs, and he could just sign somewhere else (including back to Detroit) in the offseason. So when its all said and done, for their star player and one of the top 2 names available, they get a pick and a guy who probably wouldnt even dress 1 game for them. At least if he was restricted you'd have a little something to stand on, but he's not even that! Hell if they want Cleary that bad they could just sign him in the offseason!
-
Stupid? Theyre fighting for a playoff spot loo, and after playing really crappy for a long stretch theyre now in the midst of a 4 game winning streak that might just save their season. They have every right to be ecstatic with every win no matter who its against or who's out on the other side.

Ive been trying desperately to find a vid of that fight for the past hour and a half....no luck. Various press clippings as well as your post have one thing in common though, apparently he didnt fare very well. On a side note: I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT F'N MIKE KEANE STILL PLAYS!!!!!
-
The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of Salei is that crosscheck on one of my most hated players, Mike Modano.
-
More i think about it Im starting to somewhat get on board with the idea of Salei, i'd rather have Stuart but Salei does have that nasty, dirty side to him....which is something we could definitely use.
-
100% with you on this one. You know when me and you agree on something its gotta be right!
-
Holland wasnt the GM for the 96-97 Cup, he took over the following year.
-
Kp, if Anaheim is willing to give up Bobby Ryan in addition to that Edmonton 1st, i'd ship Steen out with a damn bow on him and a huge thank you basket if i was Toronto! They'd be crazy to not take that trade, especially considering Sundin will come back.
-
YG- Is there a different Carter in Anaheim's minors or are you talking about Ryan Carter? Im confused cause you're saying Carter or Bobby Ryan, and its indeed Ryan Carter than Bobby has 20x more value than he does. It would kinda be like saying Kopecky or Filpulla. Ryan Carter really isnt very good, I dont see why Toronto would have interest in him. Interesting timing though with Steen, there was also a rumor about Stajan but i cant see the Ducks giving all that up without it being Steen.
-
Not necessarily, i wouldnt be excited over it but i wouldnt have a problem with Salei. For me the Canadian thing is much more important in regards to forwards rather than defenseman.
-
Whats going on is that they would sign McCarty to a contract prior to the deadline limit, then waive him in order to send him to GR. During that waiver time he could be claimed, but i cant see why anybody would as that team would have to keep him on their NHL roster.
-
I would assume so. Or else, what would the point of going through that process even be?
-
I think it'll be chippy, and Downey and Godard will have more than a few run-ins, but in the end I dont think we'll see any fights. There is definitely the potential for a few though if things started getting nasty. I know i'll be on edge just knowing Keenan is probably going to put out the Godard line every time Downey is out there.
