For me the problem lies in if theyre wanting to add another grinding, physical guy,...then theres much better options out there for that imo. Its certainly not that i dislike McCarty, but also the notion that Downey should be removed from his enforcer role for him is pretty ridiculous i think and irks me a bit. For what its worth, obviously id rather have him here than someone like Hartigan though...

Just because a guy is liked by our organization doesnt mean he holds high value around the league. Im speaking mediocre is terms of his trade value.

I see what you're saying with a 2 for 1 type thing, but my problem is if Hossa were signed to an extension, you are completely eliminated having the chance to acquire any Canadian of consequence. All that forward money will be between Z, Datsyuk, and Hossa. Honestly if were to get him i'd rather have him NOT signed any further, and see how the team does prior to negotiatiing. If we were to give him a bunch of cash to a multi year deal, only to see the team flop early,...i'd be pretty sick about it.

Im on the same page with you Monk. This team is already a proven regular season winner, Hossa falls right in that category himself. Im one the guys who believes we need more of a Canadian influence to mix in with our European players to push us all the way, so im not exactly fond of going into next season and beyond with us being locked up with nothing but Euros as our type players. Call me crazy, but i'd rather get Sundin of the two knowing that he would in all likelihood be the rental option. Sorry, just the way i feel.

Im glad they seemed to have to finally wised up and stopped waiving Downey. There is absolutely no question that he brings much more to the table than Ellis for this team. Wont be surprised at all if he goes unclaimed.

Even the 1 loss i have is considered a draw by many...if scored that way Downey is unbeaten. Not one of his other fights can even be considered a possible loss...pretty good for a human punching bag.

How do we know its for Hossa? Maybe we're getting Eric Boulton.

Totally agree. If i had to make one guess, Fedotenko just strikes me as someone we'd end up with. Sundin will either stay in TO or go to Anaheim, and Hossa i think somebody we arent really hearing about will sneak up and get him. A team like Dallas perhaps, the rumor mill seems mysteriously quiet in regards to them.

Gotta call garbage on that one. The Leafs arent going to take a defenseman who keeps getting hurt and someone like Hudler in return for Sundin. Thats not getting nearly the value you could. And on the flip side, we wont trade Kronwall anyway.

Yeah, it just doesnt make sense for Sundin, who loves Toronto and would want them to get the most they can for him (especially if he intends on returning), would now say he's only willing to go to one team. If anything, im more inclined to believe theres some BS'ing going on by the Leafs in order to push Burke to the far end of aggressiveness and part with that pick in addition to Ryan you mentioned. That to me, is what makes the most sense about this scenario.
