He's been really bad this year, but prior he was a pretty decent fighter. Whatever is going on in his head is effecting his fighting ability as well.
-
O'Byrne must be trying to make a run at the Lady Byng trophy this year....what else would he need a purse for?!
-
Well i wouldnt exactly say he kicked his ass, he did get the W though. Still thats just one fight, he also lost to Scott Thornton. You never really know which Parros you're gonna get, sometimes he looks really good, other times not so much. He'd be right on the outskirts of the top 10 imo.
-
Jim Cummins wasnt a heavy imo, he was a light heavy (which i also consider guys like McCarty, May, and Barch for comparison purposes)
-
Oh hell yeah...for sure! But we gotta remember this is still the Red Wings we're talking about, they'd never carry two enforcers like that, i consider us lucky to even have Downey! McGrattan's probably a pipe dream though, they wouldnt want somebody like him who's out there looking for a fight every game. They'd consider him too much of a loose cannon i bet.
-
I dont feel Parros is a top 10'er, but it was still a nice upset given the way it was all Downey and Parros just looked lost out there. I think Downey has done his job well, but i'd still much prefer to see a legit heavy like a McGrattan in his place next year.

Funny...i completely forgot about out Norton last year...some impression he made on me I guess you could give him the Ivanans fight, but it wasnt much of a W if it even was one at all.
-
My heart skipped a beat when Downey nearly slipped in the squareoff....man, how disappointing would that have been!
-
That gives a whole new meaning to saying a ref is full of s*** when he makes a bad call! On another light note, that Panther with the visor kinda looks like Kopecky.

The NHL wants to know why hockey is a '2nd-tier sport'
Lou_Siffer replied to NHLrules?'s topic in General
Im sure Tim Donaghy would argue that the refs can have a huge effect on an NBA game. A couple bad foul calls can cost a team its stud player. Or the closing minute of a game where every point is crucial, one bad call can blow it. Dont discount the refs effect on a game just because they score 200 pts. All it takes is one screw up at the wrong time. -
Erskine would definitely be a legitimately good heavyweight fighting Dman option, but he seems to be doing pretty well with the Caps now and theyre right there in the divisional race. He would be the ideal guy though. O'Brien i was thinking about earlier, he's not a very good fighter (and thats sugar coating it!), but overall i do like him. Problem there though is that Tampa traded a 1st round pick to get him, so you know they are going to want a good return. They certainly wouldnt just give him up for Sammy, Meech, Quincey, or any of the famous lame LGW trade offers. I dont believe he'll be an option for us.

Fischer did beat Barnaby, but he's definitely not a heavyweight. The last one i could think of was McCarty over Reed Low, i mean, thats a ridiculously long time...
-
Nope, i dont...or else you know i'd have counted that one!

I seriously have a hard time believing that Bettman and the league wants Anaheim to win...given that they are the polar opposite of the types of teams he wants in the league. The guy who doesnt like fighting wanting the bully team of the league to win again? What sense does that make?
-
Yeah i was gonna bold it too, but didnt wanna get too carried away! Call me crazy but im still damn excited that Downey won, even though it wasnt much of a fight. Like i said, its been years since we've had somebody beat a guy like Parros! Thats agony for a guy like me!
-
Yeah, thats win McIver.
-
I shall be the deciding vote!let me find this scrap..
-
Yeah you could see the boys on the bench reacting to Downey when he skated to the dressing room, i think they were in a bit of shock themselves that he beat Parros! This is the first time a Red Wing has defeated a heavyweight since 02-03...wow talk about a wait!
-
whew...heart rate finally starting to calm down after the scrap! Win for Mr Aaron Downey!!!! Funny considering the last post i read here after the 1st intermission was talking about how Downey was expendable because he didnt know when to fight.
-
Downey already declined Parros, granted in his defense it was after the Wings goal, but still not something i like to see. Hopefully next time he'll take him up on it.
-
Lilja vs Parros? Or would he dare thump my boy May?
-
Hopefully Downey doesnt spend most of this game riding "el pine".
-
Cool...Ellis is scratched. You figure he would be but you never know with Babcock sometimes. Downey, Drake, Lilja...get ready! Hope its a good one.

I hate Samuelsson more than ever now! Cleary's gritty passionate play in the playoffs last year was really key too, who knows how he's going to play when he returns. Now the Wings need even more grit as well as scoring. Kenny's definitely got some work to do....luckily Ryan Malone helps to address both.

Needless to say your day wouldve gone downhill from there
