This is probably the main reason Forsberg will end up in Philly and not here. As recent history has shown I think they're much more likely to take on the risk of giving him the extra year (as Anaheim did with Bertuzzi) than the Wings are. That second year is something he's really going to push for....cant really blame him.

I guarantee guaransheed it was for Fedorov. He fits the criteria of what the Wings will end up with perfectly. Underachieving older guy with name value, who wont cost very much as the interest level will not be high amongst other teams. And of course...theres the former Wing thing as well. I bet they'll strike this deal rather early on deadline day, before the teams that miss out on Sundin, Hossa, and the other premier guys available look at Fedorov as their last resort. I believe there has to be a natural lure for any Canadian to be interested in taking over for an original 6 Canadian team. People completely dismiss the idea of a Bowman, Holland, or Yzerman ever wanting that Toronto job, but i really feel like there would be interest no matter how shaky the job looks at first. I wouldnt be shocked in the least to see 1 of those 3 jump over.

Cote has been looking much better lately too. Early on in the year, all his fights were entertaining but he was usually losing. Now he's started winning too...well, up until last night! Just gotta credit Laraque for the beatdown.

Stone didnt remove his either....Downie punched his helmet off. If theres a square off, thats one thing. But a spur of the moment battle like that where guys lock up immediately....you cant expect anybody to take their visor off. Do that and you end up getting drilled!

100% agree. Guys like Boll who play extremely physical and also have talent are guys that every team wants. If he manages to score 9 or 10 goals all the while leading the league in fights that will be a phenominal rookie year for him.

If you're going to rip on Downie and call him not honorable for that Hank, then you'd also be calling our boy Darren McCarty (who was Rob Ray-lite) the same. He was famous for not being tied down. I recall Reed Low back in 03 or so complaining about McCarty's jersey after a fight....which stemmed not only from their fight (where Mac got tossed) but a prior one on a New Years eve where he fought Bryce Salvador(and also got tossed for not being tied!). Its a nothing rule, if you get caught breaking it goes under the who cares file. Plenty of guys have got caught over the years.

Cote got smacked around pretty good by Laraque tonight. I wish he'd fight with a purpose like this more often. Props to Cote though as this guy can take a punch like no other!

Should be noted before the ripping of Downie commences, that this game misconduct was for his jersey not being tied down....so thats a nothing one. He took a wicked looking board from Laraque earlier too.

I think Downey definitely used to be a heavy Kp, (in the era where he KOed Boulerice) albeit bottom level heavy like i said, but still one. I can tell we also view classes differently, for me middleweights are guys like Drake, Steve Ott, Craig Adams, etc. ....basically a rank above non-fighter you could say. So obviously for me i'd never put Downey in the class of those guys.

He hasnt been losing which is good, but the two names that stick out though as disappointing are his showings against Boll and O'donnell. I viewed Downey as bottom tier heavy going into the year, but now i'd say he belongs in the same group with guys like May and Barch....or what McCarty was for the majority of his career. That tweener category where they're capable for fighting some heavies, but are better suited to fighting light heavies. I just cant call him a heavyweight anymore.

Downey/Odonnell - Draw (yet another one for Aaron!) A little bit disappointing as Downey should definitely be beating O'Donnell imo. Pronger gets the win, but loved Cleary dropping them with him...its about damn time somebody did! I think all the eye gouge talk is silly though....im with GST on that issue.
